Eason’s writing has polished and improved since this earlier book, but it’s still a good and worthwhile read! Paige was an interesting character, and Dylan a steady hero. Little Will was so cute, especially the time he was ready to defend his uncle from the bad guys! I personally think Will was the star of the piece, just because. :)

There were some plot points that were a little difficult to understand, but not enough to make the mystery un-guessable. What annoyed me most was a certain tornado response: Never, ever go under a bridge in a tornado. Get in a ditch and cover your head. Even a small tornado becomes more dangerous under a bridge because the strength of a bridge acts as a wind tunnel and the wind is worse under the shelter. I’m a little stunned that neither Eason nor her publisher nor any of the other reviewers didn’t know this, so...here’s a public service message. :)

Hmm . . . this was interesting.

The characters had me intrigued, especially Will. The mystery was fairly well thought out and kept me on my toes. Both the writing and editing felt pretty choppy\sloppy to me. There was a bit of repetition and "telling" rather than "showing", which bothered me. Also several typos, including mixing up a character's name, changing it from Will to Alex.

Not my new favorite read, but overall interesting. Recommended for ages 16+ for romance and suspense.

DEA agent Paige Ashworth is working undercover as Paige Worth in a school in Rose Mountain, NC as a guidance counselor. She is trying to find out who is selling drugs in the school and find out how a fellow agent and a single mother were killed in an arson fire. On the way to school her first day, she rescues six year old Will, the son of the woman killed, from a speeding car in a crosswalk at the school. Paige wound up in the hospital with a concussion after rescuing Will from the speeding car.

Dr. Dylan Seabrook is Will's uncle and has had custody of him since the death of his mom. He has been very concerned about Will since he has not spoken since his mother's death. After Dylan dropped Will off at the crosswalk, he saw the car speeding toward Will but couldn't get there in time. Dylan ran quickly to check out Will, who was unhurt, and Paige before she was taken away in an ambulance.

This is an action packed suspense where Dylan and Paige unite to try to find out who is after them. Both rely on their faith to get them through the time of intense fear. The characters are well developed and the plot is fast paced with twists and turns to keep the pages turning to the surprise ending.

I'm not usually a huge fan of the Love Inspired books because they are so short and I never feel like I get enough time with the characters. Sometime the romance will feel forced or rushed and the story line barely gets going and then ends. But let me tell you, Lynette Eason knows how to do it. I closed this book with a smile on my face and felt completely satisfied. All the loose ends were tied up nicely and not only that, but the characters were deep and very well developed. How does she do it?

On that note, I also have to say that I did find several errors in the book. I've read almost all of Lynette's books and I think this was on the part of the publishers and editors. For instance the back of the book calls the little boy, Alex, but in the book his name is Will. There were also several "she"s instead of "he"s. Minor, but worth mentioning if you are one to be bothered by such a thing.

I'm still giving it 5 Stars, because I loved it!

The story is about a six year old little boy who hasn't uttered a word since his mother was murdered in a house fire. It's the job of undercover DEA agent, Paige Worth, to find out what happened that night. The investigation takes her to the small town of Rose Mountain, Colorado, where she meet the kind hearted Dr. Dylan Seabrook, suspect in her case and uncle to six year old Will. Posing as a school guidance counselor, Paige finds herself in a race against the killer(s) with absolutely no solid evidence and no clear view. It seems that the answers lay with the silent boy under his Uncle's care.

Read the first chapter and then decide if you want to read the rest. If you're like me, you won't be able to put it down. :)

Paige Ashworth from the DEA has arrived in Rose Mountain as Paige Worth to take up an undercover role as guidance counsellor at the elementary school while trying to figure out who is distributing drugs through the school, & how. Biking to school her first morning she is stunned to see a white car approaching the crossing fast, heading straight for a child. Fearful she won't get there in time, Paige pedals as fast as she can & sweeps the boy up. The car knocks into Paige & she instinctively cradles the boy & twists her body so it is hers that crashes to the road first.

Dr. Dylan Seabrook has his heart in his mouth. Every day he leaves his nephew at the crossing, watching him cross the road & enter the school. Watching the car coming & not being able to get to Will in, he is very grateful that this woman did. He has already lost his sister in an arson fire 2 months ago which left him with the guardianship of Will. He couldn't bear to lose Will as well.

The arson has left Will mute, but Paige has made a connection with him. As she starts to build his trust, the danger around them escalates & Paige has a race against time to find the perpetrator. What did Will see that night his home was burnt? And what does it have to do with the drug smuggling? Can Dylan be trusted, or is he involved too?

I loved this very fast paced, action & faith filled story, & it was really nice to revisit Rose Mountain. "Dark Obsession", the second story of the 2-in-1 book "My Deadly Valentine" is where we first meet the residents of Rose Mountain, telling Eli & Holly's story. While it doesn't have to be read first, if you're planning on reading more in the "Rose Mountain Refuge" Series, then you'll want to add this to your collection.

Note: Lynette writes a letter at the end of the story & explains that she had to change the little boy's name for various reasons. I'm guessing Will's name was originally Alex as that's the name on the back cover description for the book, & makes it into the story in one place, so some last minute editing obviously went awry somewhere! The story is great, so I'm still giving it 5*s, but if that's something that's going to irk you, then avoid this book.

3.5 Stars Out Of 5

“Undercover Drug Enforcement Agent Paige Ashworth, known as Paige Worth in the little town of Rose Mountain, North Carolina, realized she had only seconds to act or the child would be dead.”

“Sometimes we have to face our fears to find out there’s nothing there to be afraid of anymore.”

“To believe in herself. To believe God when He said He works all things together for good for those who love Him.”

This was an enjoyable, lite read. While it had suspense, it was more of a character-driven book. I enjoyed the main characters of Paige and Dylan, along with 6 year old Will. The romance was a little much for me, but if you like romantic suspense, then I am sure you will enjoy that facet. I didn’t guess the ending which is always a positive, though it wasn’t anything that blew me away. Again, this was more about the characters and how the past doesn’t have to define their future. I would probably read more in a series.

I enjoyed reading this story.. Paige is a strong woman to be a DEA agent. Dylan is at first uncomfortable with this new revelation, then decides he loves her and wants to spend as much time as possible with her. Will is absolutely adorable despite his silence after witnessing a horrible crime. Without giving away the end, the badman and his accomplice were not who I thought they would be. Lynette Eason does an excellent job in keeping this short story suspenseful. I look forward to further books by this author.

Oh she got hit by a car, hit her head and had two noticeably different sized pupils and was knocked unconscious? She's fine!

Holding fully coherent conversations when she finally wakes up several hours later after sleeping through a CAT scan, etc. Over night observation should be sufficient.

A car is following you that looks just like the car that tried to run over your nephew and it speeds off when you pull onto the street with the police station? Let's not report it, it was probably nothing!!!

A strange man is looking at your nephew's savior's door and hesitantly to go in while hiding his face from everyone while using a baseball cap to cover most of his face? And he takes off when you talk to him? Don't worry about it! It's probably nothing!!!

UUUUUggggghhhh...you're a doctor? Where are your brains?

Sorry. I can't do it. TSTL is written all over these two, but they probably will through the grace of god...

"Agent Undercover" is a Christian romantic suspense. Paige is sent undercover to find out who's selling drugs in the local schools. The last DEA agent was killed with only a 6 year-old boy as witness to what happened--but he's not talking. Yet he bonds quickly with Paige after she saves his life. She's attracted to the handsome and kind uncle who's raising him, Dr. Dylan, but she's certain she'd be a horrible mother.

The main characters were likable and acted realistically. Paige and Dylan got along well. The suspense came from repeated attacks on Paige, Dylan, and the boy. I found it a little odd that everyone agrees that Paige has a gift for getting people to talk, but she gives up her career to stay in Rose Mountain.

There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable suspense.

3.5/5 This was a fast-paced Christian suspense with a lot packed into it. I liked the way that Paige Ashworth helped Dylan's nephew through a very traumatic situation and in the process was able to heal from past hurts as well. She was able to bring closure and justice for Dylan's mom and Paige's co-worker and friend.

I did feel the romantic relationship between Paige and Dylan moved along more quickly than I thought it should. However, it is not a long book so development wouldn't be able to happen like it could if the book had been longer.

I listened to the audio version of the book and thought the characterization and tempo of the story was well done.

Lynette Eason's books always keep me on the edge of my seat with the mystery, however, sometimes I feel TOO much drama is crammed into one book. Not sure the little boy in this book would EVER get over the trauma he faced, even possibly after years of counseling. Also, the author changed the name of the child before the book was published and his old name cropped up a time or two--even on the back cover. Maybe better editing?? Yet the books are clean and hold my interest, so I always enjoy reading them and will continue to.

Agent Undercover (Rose Mountain Refuge Book 1)

Paige was starting the first day off her new assignment when she saw a little bit standing in the crosswalk in front of his school with a car aimed straight at him! Paige may have only been on a bicycle, but it was enough to get to the kid, reach out an arm, and scoop the kid up before the front bumper hit the little boy! What a way to start a new job, not to speak of making an entrance when that way the last thing she wanted to do. 👍GREAT READ!!!

Fast-paced and easy, quick read! Loved this story of love and family. The non-stop suspense of the story kept me engaged and turning pages to see what was about to happen. The characters were believable and true to life with the author’s portrayal of their lives and having had experience with some of the issues of this story, I was very impressed by the accuracy of how Lynette handled her character development throughout the story. If you enjoy suspense and a little Christian romance woven in a mystery thriller, then you will love this book!

When DEA agent Paige Ashworth saves Dr. Seabrook’s nephew, she becomes the front-page story. Something she can’t afford to be when she’s undercover to catch a killer.

When she becomes involved with Alex and his Uncle, Paige soon discovers Alex hasn’t spoken since his mother’s death. The same woman was involved with Paige’s deceased partner. Can she get Alex to identify the killer before it’s too late?

Undercover Agent has lots of suspense, cute moments, and sweet romance.

2 stars — Hallmark thriller with heavy faith-based vibes
This wasn’t quite what I expected. The story itself isn’t bad, but the romance moved fast, and the religious themes were really prominent—lots of prayer, God’s plan, and faith-driven dialogue.

To be fair, it does say “Christian suspense” and “faith-based themes” on Audible. I just didn’t notice… so heads up if you’re like me and skip past the fine print.

Agent Undercover is a fast-paced, suspenseful read that kept me engaged. I cared about he main characters, but my favorite by far was the little boy who was too traumatized to speak. He completely stole the show in the most perfect way and added so much depth to the story. Eason does a great job balancing tension with just the right amount of heart. I definitely plan to snag the next installment in the series.

Alex hasn't said a word since the death of his mother and her boyfriend (an undercover DEA agent). Paige Asheworth, a DEA agent, is working undercover at the school to find out what happened. She saves Alex's life and gets involved with him and his uncle, Dylan Seabrook, with whom he lives. Can they figure out what is going on before they die?

Interesting story and easy to read.

Found this in a 2 for 1 credit sale, somehow placed under crime, but so far the only crime found is a misplacement, it’s a badly written het romance, I mean, there was a fire, and a murder attempt on a young boy, but that is just a background noice in the ‘two very pretty people meeting’ plot. DNF at chapter 5.

This is a fast-paced book that balances the mystery/crime element with the romantic element. You almost instantly fall in love with Dylan and Will and you're rooting for Paige the whole way through. The small-town drug ring element and the school setting are different from many suspense novels out there right now and they make for an interesting angle.

Classic romantic suspense. A very good read and the suspense aspect was great, but but the romance was very predictable. I knew exactly what was going to happen at the end in the first chapter. But I would still give the book 4.5 stars if I could. If you like Collen Coble, Terri Blackstock, Dani Pettrey, or Dee Henderson, then you will likely like this book!

This one was ok. Eason’s books are a little predictable in that the characters are usually hopelessly in love within 3 days of meeting one another. Sometimes it makes me want to roll my eyes but I do enjoy the storylines so I continue reading. She does a great job of adding in the backstories of the characters to help you understand why they are what they are.

This book was really good. I love the characters. I love the storyline and trying to figure out who I thought did it. I’m glad to say I wasn’t wrong! The storyline grabbed me from the very beginning. The only problem was twice in the book Will’s name got changed to Alex, something an editor should’ve caught

I've read a few of Lynette Eason books before, and just like those books, this one was a thrilling suspense novel with a little romance and faith in God, too. Well done! I had my suspicions on who the killer was, but never really knew until near the end, and I definitely didn't suspect that the killer had a partner, nor who the partner was!

Corny storyline full of over the top Christianity. It felt like this was written by someone with the naivete of a high school wallflower that spends her weekends at church bake sales or watching Murder She Wrote re-runs for writing inspiration.

Also, after working for the past 15 years with the police, the DEA storyline and dialogue was way too off base to be remotely believable.
