I seriously just sat down and read every word of this book in less than one hour. It's very short and to the point. Or in other words, it's exactly what I was looking for. While the whole "clean eating" thing isn't exactly a new concept, I have been thinking about it a lot lately. I've been feeling so rotten lately. Gaining weight, very tired and depressed, and basically feeling like I'm falling apart. My current diet is embarrassing. I figured that was the key to improving my health and decided to pick up this book to brush up on the basics. I'm so glad I did! I can't say the information in this book is all that surprising. It's pretty common sense stuff- things I've known for years. Yet it's presented in a very inspiring way. I felt a little sick reading about all the chemicals I load into my body every day. It also contains some great tips and ideas on good, wholesome food combinations to add to your menu list. Very basic, but I'm glad I took the time to read it. I'm feeling the tug of motivation that I was looking for!
Having read the other Eat Clean books, I thought this was a great portable version of the bigger books. Like the title says, it's just the rules. It really breaks down Eating Clean to it's simplest form.
This was a great break down of the essentials of Eating Clean. It's easy to follow and understand. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone just beginning to learn about Eating Clean.
The title says it all: Just the Rules. Tosca gives a list of 51 rules to clean eating that are informative and encouraging. It is possible for everyone to eat clean if they can make the commitment to do so, and this book is your springboard. I really appreciated the Goals section of the book. I speak for myself when I say that oftentimes when starting something new, I tend to be a little ambitious and then end up disappointed. Breaking down your fitness goals makes them feel more manageable, and you are more likely to stick to them.
I like it for just what the title says, “just the rules”. It is very complete and comprehensive in what it covers but stays ONLY on the important reasons and explanations so it is fun to read all of it and not skip.
If you're not familiar with Clean Eating, this is NOT the book with which you should start. You'll want to start with Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet Recharged and/or explore the numerous websites and blogs that will give you the necessary details to start a clean eating program.
But if you know something about Clean Eating, this book is an excellent resource. The short chapters provide solid reminders of Clean Eating principles. It is a lot easier to use than the more detailed books and sites. The smaller size makes it easier to carry around with you when you want a quick, general reminder.
New York Times best-selling author Tosca Reno offers a great pocket guide to her very popular Eat-Clean Diet series. In it she breaks it down to 51 basic ways to eat clean in a simple and quick way. With each new rule, you can make selective changes to enhance your diet or use it as a springboard to a whole new way of eating. Either way, if you like the guide and want more, we have several of her other comprehensive books to choose from, including her cookbook.
Overall, it is a fun read full of pictures in a handy portable guide.
Just the Rules is just like the title says, just the rules. It is a straight-forward simple book that gives you the basics of eating clean. I think it is great to keep on hand if you are new to clean eating but if you are already familiar with eating clean, I really do not think this book is necessary. I have all of Tosca's books and I gave this one three stars because I really did not find any additional information in this book.
Tosca is the Queen when it comes to eating clean - she KNOWS her stuff! I like how this is the Coles Notes of her other EC books - a quick and easy refresher for those of us who can get off track at times. You will never need to read another book on nutrition or diet or lifestyle after you pick up Tosca's books. I would recommend reading one of her other books before this one - so you can get the big picture!
This is a good basic book, but Reno's basic book isn't anything new for most people interesting in Clean Eating. However she had a few "rules" that were intriguing. This is intended to be a quick start type of guide, but it would have benefited from some more recipes or practical ways to do things. Yes, I understand that 8 cups of greens a week are good...but I'm not going to get there with some spinach in my omelet.
I've never read Tosca Reno before but apparently this is an abbreviated introduction to her clean eating philosophy. It's reminiscent of Michael Pollan's 'Food Rules' vs. the much longer 'In Defense of Food'. It's a great cheatsheet but I'm planning to go back and read her pioneering efforts. I read it in about 2 hours during my commute.
Good quick read about the basics of clean eating. The information is nothing new if you are already following clean eating principles but is a good book to highlight the basics for newbies. I would definitely recommend further reading and research if you want to make clean eating a permanent part f your life.
I really enjoyed this quick little book. It is a straight-forward, simple book that gives you the basics of 'eating clean'. Plenty of good information is contained in this book, from warnings on sugar intake to recommendations for superfoods for optimal health. I loved the images and the design of the book also, it was visually very appealing.
I read this book at Barnes and Noble . Less than 45 minutes of read, gave me an insight on what I must not do. You may be familiar with many of the rules though. 2 things I am going to switch right away is move to Raw Sugar and Sea Salt. Overall it makes a quick reference / resource on clean diet . It is nice to read.
As someone who tries to follow a whole foods, plant-based diet, I enjoyed this little book. I can't say I agreed 100% with Reno's thoughts and theories, but overall I thought the book was a great little guide that served to remind me of some basic rules of a healthy lifestyle. Great for those just starting to take control of their health.
This book is exactly what it says. Just the rules to clean eating and taking care of yourself. If you need a reminder of what you need to do, or just a quick overview of the things that you know you should be doing this is a great book to check out.
A good book with just the right amount of information to jump start you into a lifestyle of healthy eating. No fill with a bunch of scientific jargon, just a no nonsense book that can motivate you into eating right for the right reasons.
I'm always confused about 'carrots' IF IT COMES FROM THE GROUND IT'S CLEAN EATING... Ok simple enough, until you have a personal trainer, or another EAT CLEANER- tell you to avoid CARROTS? Really I know where you can put them
Very similar to a book by Michael Polland (sp?) called Food Rules. It was still good. I liked how she said to eat every 3 hrs and always pair a lean protein with a complex carbohydrate. Any book to empower and excite you to live a healthy lifestyle will always get high marks from me!
I liked that Tosca scaled it back to the basics. Her other books are filled with information, so much so that I forgot most of it by the end of the book, but this was perfect ! :)
Excellent, quick bites of information from the ear clean books which are excellent to begin with. A must have quick reference to refer to often for motivation as well.
A fast, concise reminder of the Eat-Clean Diet basics. Perfect if you've been one too many treats lately and need a refresher or if you're new to the entire business of eating clean.
