Best "book on writing" ever.....with maybe the exception of Flannery O'Connor's Mysteries and Manners. A few of the "example stories" were extraneous, though, and I realize that with each story Brooks and Warren were trying to point out what was right and/or wrong with it, thus the stories were probably carefully chosen, but still, there were a few I found annoying and pointless. Overall, though, really accessible, engaging, and fun to read.....I wish I'd read it a decade ago, dammit! (thank you, Clyde Edgerton, thesis boss/friend/cheerleader, for this rec)
