Following in her father's footsteps, Elizabeth Power wanted to be a writer from a very early age. Once she realised that copying Rupert Bear stories word for word from her albums wasn't really the thing to do, she was on her way!
By the age of fourteen, Elizabeth had produced her first full-length novel—alas! never published—and by the age of fifteen her teenage years meant life was so full that all literary ambitions became somewhat overshadowed.
Married in her early twenties, Elizabeth found that the needs of the home became her priority. Despite the ever present nagging little voice in her conscience that constantly reminded her of those unfulfilled writing ambitions, the creativity had stopped.
A few weeks before her thirtieth birthday, Elizabeth was thinking about what she had done with her first thirty years and realised she had been telling herself that she would "start writing tomorrow" for at least twelve of them! She couldn't help wondering, "whatever happened to that dream?" Within two weeks her "tomorrow" would come when fate took a hand in the form of redundancy!
Writing was now Elizabeth's life. After several attempts, the letter that was to change her life arrived from Mills & Boon. They wanted to publish her book. The novels flowed, and they have continued to publish her books ever since.
Living in England's beautiful West Country, she likes nothing better than taking walks with her husband along the coast or in the adjoining woods, and enjoying all that nature has to offer.
Travelling ranks very highly among Elizabeth's pleasures, and so many places she has visited have been recreated in her books.
Of her writing, emotional intensity is paramount. She says, "Times, places and trends change, but emotion is timeless." A powerful storyline with maximum emotion set in a location in which one can really live and breathe whilst the story unfolds is what she strives for.
When Grace met Seth eight years ago, she was a different person. She was shallow and spoiled, and immature. It caused her to treat him cruelly, and unbeknownst to her, her grandfather got him fired. When they meet again in the present, it's clear that Seth is still holding a grudge. He buys up the controlling shares in her family's company from her grandfather's young trophy widow and Grace's ex-fiance'. So now Seth is her boss, and he wants her back in his bed. Is it just about revenge, or are the flames of passion still burning just as brightly as they did for their brief time together in the past?
I liked that Grace had come to realize that she didn't want to be the same girl she'd once been. She'd learned a lesson about what was important after the tremendous loss she'd suffered. Now she was realizing that she still loved Seth. When their passion leads to a pregnancy, they end up getting married, but can Seth love her the way she yearns to be loved by him?
This is a good Harlequin Presents. It has all the passion, drama, and angst I like in these books. I also appreciated Seth's viewpoint. He didn't always approach Grace the way I would hope, but I could understand his issues with her. At the end of the day, he was a good man, and his actions showed that he was crazy about Grace, although she couldn't see the forest for the trees. Although life had pulled them apart and in different directions, and he was angry at the way she'd dismissed him in the past, I think that he was motivated down deep by his desire to get her back, because he never got over her.
There was a poignancy in the losses that Grace suffered, losses that helped to mature her and to encourage her to get her priorities right. I think that as a mature woman, she had a lot to offer, and I can't hold what she did at eighteen against her. The same goes for Seth at twenty-two. We all make bad choices when we are young, and hopefully have the opportunity to learn from them as Grace and Seth did. I'm just glad that these two fated lovers got a second chance together. A chance to be in love, and to have a family together, which was denied the first time around.
I really liked this book, despite the sniping and back-biting between Grace and Seth initially.
Poor little rich girl, who is 18 and a virgin, has a one night stand (it was the day - but whatever) with the local bad boy and then gives him the cut direct the next day.
The fallout: Heroine gets pregnant and has a miscarriage at four months. Hero is fired from his job thanks to the heroine's grandfather, which puts his foster family in jeopardy.
The revenge:
Hero buys the majority stock in the heroine's family company from her grandfather's trophy wife and her ex-fiance, leaving the heroine with a third share.
Heroine has an art gallery she would rather invest her time and money in, but feels duty-bound to the company. Hero taunts her while she is jet-lagged and tries to show she's still attracted to him, etc. . .
That's the basic premise. The heroine has a lot of baggage with her family angst that the hero doesn't know about. Hero does have a reason for his revenge, but shows glimpses of his softer side from the beginning. Normally I would have been lapping this up, but I couldn't get past the heroine. She kept saying things she didn't mean and muddying the waters. It felt like she hasn't learned very much in the years apart. Her pride was still all important.
Hero had many partners since his encounter with the heroine. Heroine had a fiance, but hadn't had sex since the hero. The the grandfather's trophy wife tries to make mischief as an OW.
h was a 19 year old snob raised by wealthy grandparents after her mom died in childbirth and dad kind of disappeared. She met the hero before leaving for college, he owned a boat and helped his foster brother and siblings. They have their first time & then she is forced to break their date, the next day in front of her pretentious friends she acts like a snob and they exchange angry words.
Flash forward eight years later, her grandfather's business is struggling and she is a changed person. She matured after she found herself pregnant after her first time and lost the baby, she felt she deserved that and changed and became a better person. The hero lost his job because of her, she didn't know that and comes to take revenge buying her company. She doesn't apologize to him for his previous behaviour though she is apologetic, he still thinks she is a snob.
The heroine falls pregnant again, they marry, maintain distance & HEA. Hero comes to know her & that she wasn't a snob, she also has a pregnancy scare, when she tells him about their first baby.
Despite the h having been engaged, weirdly he was her only lover. I just found so much of the drama unnecessary in the book, they could have just talked instead of keeping things in. In the middle of the book nothing seems to happen, she is all yearning for him & he is too kinda.
When in the mood I do love a book full of angst which is why I like HP books.
This was the first time I had read an EP's book and I wasn't disappointed, the story wasn't new or different but it was very well written. I would happily read any other works written by her.
The heroine Grace learns that her company has been involved in a hostile take over, and is shocked to discover that the person responsible is Seth, the hero, the man with whom she had a very passionate teenage love affair. Seeing Grace again reminds Seth of both the passion he once felt for her as well as the pain her betrayal caused. He is going to use the chance he has found to take over Grace's company to finally get revenged on her, and Grace knows this and accepts it knowing that her cruel actions when she was young were unforgivable. However, Seth is also unaware of just what happened to Grace after he left, things she has never forgotten, but he does realise that Grace is different to what he was expecting. The passion between them still burns brightly, and this gives them a second chance together, but with so much pain and secrets in their past neither of them can really trust the other.
This book had me absorbed from the very first page, it is packed full of emotion and passion, I couldn't stop reading! What is so great about this book, in my opinion, is that both the hero and heroine grow as characters, before and during the story. It really made the relationship feel three dimensional. The pain and loss each character had inside them made this a very poignant read, I really felt that they needed each other.
The writing is full of angst, passion, sympathy, as well as hope, and this makes the book very enjoyable.
Wonderful emotional second chance at love with revenge story, adored Seth so much he is such a humble caring patient loving man,Grace sometimes irritated me but liked her,the story develops really well, characters are well developed, adored the bonding between Seth n his siblings. All the misunderstandings are cleared and past secrets comes out,Seth makes great efforts to understand and know the real Grace,Grace she regrets her behaviour, redeems herself and this second chance that fate has given them both take this chance and inspite of their prides-past n few misconceptions they take their leap and get their HEA

Both Grace and Seth had preconceived images and thoughts of the other. They couldn’t be more wrong about the other. Red hot chemistry drew them together, but their pride kept their relationship distant. Once they swallowed their pride, their hearts were able to find the love that could have been theirs all along. This is a book that you have to read all the way though. You can’t skip ahead, and you defiantly can’t miss the ending. I think the ending was perfect. I was so glad the two actually opened up to one another and was honest.
Grace came back from a business trip and learned that her company has been involved in a hostile takeover. This company had been owned by her grandfather that had only died a short while ago. She is more shocked to find out that Seth is responsible for the takeover. When she was 19 she shared a very passionate love affair with Seth. He was her first love. After the affair, Seth overheard one of her conversation, which left him feeling like he was a no body. He felt betrayed, and throughout the years wanted revenge. There is so much Seth does not know about that time, for it was a really dark time in Grace’s life. He felt really bad once he found out. As much as Grace tried to stay away from Seth, the Chemistry drew her to him. Then his plan for revenge back fired on him. Grace ended up pregnant, and his heart started to fall in love with her.
This book was full of preconceived images, pain, passion, and love. I was a little frustrated with both Grace, and Seth. I think once you’re in love, you swallow your pride and you tell the other how much you love them. This did not happen till the end of the book.
I don't understand how the main characters fell in love. They basically go from hate-lusting one another to secretly loving one another, with hardly any interaction besides sex. I mean, sex is great and an important part of an intimate relationship, but it isn't something you build a relationship on. The hero is very hot and cold towards the heroine, and he disappears for large chunks of time to "do business." And the heroine annoyed me. Oh, and I don't understand the logic behind them getting married. So they have a baby coming...he can be just as much a father and involved in the child's life without marrying her. This is not a zero-sum game; it isn't, you're either married and involved or not married and the kid is abandoned. Families come in all shapes and sizes these days, not just the nuclear family.
I thought the novel was pretty average. I remember reading it before under another title. I did like the heroine, she had been through some trying time. The hero got a bit annoying when he set out to hurt the heroine maliciously but it all worked out in the end.
Non so proprio come ho fatto a conservare per oltre un anno un libro del genere. È scritto bene, ma è così noioso che quasi mi ci addormento sopra. Arrivata a un terzo lo abbandono senza rimpianti.
