When I'm not up to my knees in nappies, I write children's books. I also spend a fair amount of time eating chocolate. I try to write funny, read-aloud books that parents will enjoy as much as children - after all, if you have to share the same stories umpteen times, you may as well enjoy them. I hope you like my books enough to read them umpteen times. Thank you - Michelle.
Unglaublich magisch.
'Witch in Training' is my kind of picture book, my kindred spirit - it's spectacularly witchy, it's all about Halloween and autumn, it's about a positive mother-and-daughter relationship, it's sweet and cute and kindhearted, there are spooky and funny vibes, there are images that straight up remind me of 'Kiki's Delivery Service', it has a cat familiar named Pumpkin Patch, and it contains books, cottages, crescent moons, moonbeams, fairies, phoenixes, giant owls, werewolves, trolls, mummies, vampires, rats, sea monsters, and spell and potion making. It has it all, so glorious!
The main character, a little girl witch named Betty, reminds me of the witch Beetle from 'Beetle & the Hollowbones' - they even have green skin! I love her purple hair, and freckles. I love how close and supportive her mum is, too.
The book is also soothingly, ethereally told in rhyme, and the art is fantastic and wonderful.
Keep wishing for the best for the 'Witch in Training'!
Witch in Training by Michelle Robinson is a young children’s rhyming picture book that is perfect for this spooky time of year. It is about A4 in size and has a magical sparkly cover, though no sparkles within.
The book features a young witch learning to collect ingredients and make spells, however, she forgets to read the small print!! Along her journey on her broomstick, she also gets herself a new pet rat.
The story is super cute and the pages are filled with glossy amazing artwork that captures the essence of the story entirely, though I am so past witches being given green faces. The rhyme is near to perfect too.
Overall, if you are looking for a book for a young child this Halloween, Witch in Training would be perfect.
It’s the perfect time of year to add a witchy book to any child’s bookshelf, and this one was a pretty good contender. The illustrations are quite dark, but they’re fun and have cats so that’s always a winner!
The story itself is about Betty the witch who needs to get some witch training to help her improve. It’s a really nice, fun story with lots going on. It sometimes feels a bit jumpy - the rhymes are sometimes a bit of a stretch!
A fun addition to the Halloween shelf, but probably not a strong enough rhyme to become a favourite.

This apprenticeship of potions and flying around under the moonlight, is a very good humored book for children with an imagination. Reading it to my granddaughters was a special treat!
A wonderful story and beautiful illustrations. Mom teaches a young witch how to cast spells and make potions. They go shopping for the ingredients they need and then they work their magic. What can happen when you sneeze during a spell? See for yourself 😉 We highly recommend it!
