This didn't help for me personally. It felt basic, and a bit shallow. It also didn't help how dated it was. Pre- social media and common internet use and cell phones. So much was not relatable anymore. The concepts for organization are good for your house though. But already known. I wish it had more tips for those of us working overtime all the time, or working multiple jobs, help for single moms, etc. You know, and actual 'busy woman' who never seems to have time. My house is already fairly organized in a more minimal, clean, less cluttered way. I read those books! I wanted more. So my rating is mine for how this impacted me. For others, a solid 3 stars. If we were in the 90's- maybe 4 stars.

I bought this book in the early 90's when I was a full time working wife and mother of 2 pre-school boys. I read it many times and while I did not adopt every tip, the ones I did made a world of difference.
Now I have a very busy daughter in law and I thought I should pass this book along to her, but decided I would re-read it one last time, for old times sake.
What a trip down memory lane! It was also surprising to me to see how many of these tips I still follow to this day. Interesting as 25 years on it's such an ingrained habit that one does not remember when or why it all started.
So, I will pass this book on, and I will add the disclaimer that this was written before the Internet, before smart phones, online banking, and all the other technological advances we now take for granted. However, I do feel the basic ideas here remain just as important now as they were 25 years ago.

A hilarious look back into historical women's lives and the minds of people very different from myself. There are also sad parts too, where the author shares anecdotes of housewives she counseled who were at a loss and even sometimes suicidal over the amount of chores, tasks, and social demands that were placed on her. These women never questioned why not ask their husbands or children for help? Why am I doing all of these community activities when I am beside myself with anxiety and stress? I feel so bad for them and their kids, so strained and pressured because of the patriarchal, heterosexual, and christian ideologies so dominating their lives to the point that they couldn't see their own bondage and self-limitations on their happiness.

This book is a dream to those of us that LOVE to organize. It's so thorough in it's categories. This author will encourage you to "getter done".

I am half way through right now and am very excited and motivated to start the box system. I have read several organization books before, but I like this one better so far, I can really envision this system working for me! More update to come...
Finished the book and am in the middle of the long process of implementing the system outlined in chapter 5, "from total mess to total rest". It's great. The remainder of the book contained a lot of good reminders. I needed that to get me back on track :)

It was okay, but I didn't get any new information from it. It was also written for "the 90's woman," and so it dated itself. I generally like Mrs. Barnes' books, but this one is not one of her better books.

Not as great as I had hoped. Mostly common sense stuff.
