Fantastic!

I learned the concept of Huna or Kahuna magic for the first time in this concept driven book. (It does not have "how to do training"...so the description of the book here on goodreads is not accurate)
The author gives great explanation about the roles of each of the three human bodies namely the Lower Self, Middle Self, and Higher Self which I have not read in any other book.

The book talks about how to connect with the higher self and to be aware of lower self spirits getting in our body and mind.
Many psychological disorders are because of low self spirits entering peoples body as the author points out in details.

I liked the notion that in Huna the higher self is not "God" as there are other hierarchical Supreme Beings above the higher self which is incomprehensible to humans.

Other topics covered: thought forms, telepathy, death prayer, mana (vital force and its application),creating/changing the future, manifesting our desires, the set back of dogmatic religious teachings and other blockages in contacting the higher self, the root of insanity and multiple personality disorder, etc.

After reading this book, you will be careful of your thoughts and words!

Steiger talks very early on in the book about how the Kahuna Priests of Hawaii don't teach outsiders about their magic or spiritual system and that the book is based on the research Steiger's friend did into Kahuna magic by analyzing the etymology of the terms the priests used.

So, in short, the researcher grasped at straws (though it's not an entirely bad method) because no one would teach him what he wanted to know. Steiger then proceeds to claim he's using the research to unveil the secrets of Huna but talks very little about Huna. There's a couple core concepts that he belabors in the book, restating them over and over again. To make something of the shreds of information he has, he applies psychology and a claims that other religious systems took ideas from Huna without actually proving it.

And you don't actually learn anything about Huna or how to apply it to your life.

The end result is a book that sounds like colonizers attempting to take native beliefs and prove them right by giving us the more "enlightened" scientific meaning that "the Kahuna priests understood better than outsiders." Frankly, it reads very Victorian racist. These quant native beliefs are actually very true and here's a bunch of Western European pseudo-science that has nothing to do with it to prove it because we, being more advanced, have better explanations for it.

I cannot recommend this book to anyone for any reason. Kahuna Priests didn't want to teach colonizers their beliefs and this proves why.
