Lovely and lavish. Sweet and sassy. Charming and cozy. Christie Barlow once again captivated me with her delightful storytelling. Loved returning to the darling village of Heartcross. This is the fourth book in the series, but each book without a doubt can be read as a standalone. In this book we get to know Julia the owner of the B&B better. Owning a B&B is a dream come true for Julia, her business is flourishing and she is about to add on an extension. Things could not be going better until Flynn Carter breezes into town. Not only did Flynn take advantage of Julia when she was selling her grandfathers land, but he also jilted one of her friends at the altar. When Julia finds out Flynn is opening a five-star luxury hotel in her village she is determined that he must be stopped. The thing is Flynn seems to be a genuine guy really wanting to fit into this village. Could Julia be wrong? Could things be not quite as they appear? And to make things even more confusing Julia is definitely attracted to the handsome Flynn.

This was so fun! Julia was such a great character. I loved how thoughtful she was and how willing she was to admit when she made a mistake. I also loved all the strong female friendships in the story and the sense of community. Flynn seemed like such a great guy and it was hard to reconcile him with the guy that Julia previously knew. Starcross Manor and the surrounding property were so vividly and beautifully described I felt like I was there. I seriously would not mind actually being there it sounded so glorious every little detail. Loved how lush an opulent it all was and yet still down to earth and authentic. The romance was a sweet very slow burn and I’m hoping we see more of this couple in the next book.

This book in emojis 🏨 🦌 🦷 🔦 👻 🐶 💦 🚁

5☆ A Cosy, Heart Warming, Uplifting Romance!

It was so delightful to be back with the Love Heart Lane Series.
If you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading this gorgeous series don't worry this one is perfectly readable as a standalone.

This time round we have Julia's story.

Julia invested the money from the sale of her grandfather's house into building a beautiful bed and breakfast business in the quaint town of Heartcross in the Scottish Highlands.

Flynn is Julia's nemesis, not only did he con her out if lots of money on the sale of her Grandfather's House, he jilted her best friend on their wedding day after telling her he found someone else.

But now 5years later and Flynn is back and staying in Heartcross and Julia isn't best pleased. She don't trust him one bit! Just what is he up too?!
Will she suffer again at the hands of Flynn and his Property Development or has Flynn changed!

I don't normally add this type of thing in, but it really made me smile & giggle....My Best Quote of the Book was....‘Life is too short for all that diet malarkey. Love me… love my wobbly bits. Lol I love it! 🙌🏻 to wobbly bits 😏

Once again Barlow has written another superb story.
As always her Characters are wonderfully written and engaging.
This is a Heart Warming, Cosy and Uplifting story about community spirit, change, drama, discoveries, problem solving, friendships and budding relationships and as Julia might be about to discover things are not always what they seem!

I always look forward to reading Christie Barlow's Books and the Love Heart Lane series is one of my favourites.
So if you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading this series then I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Starcross Manor.

Once again, Christie Barlow takes us to the beautiful village of Heartcross and this time it is Julia, the owner of the B&B who finds her happily ever after. Surely, this is not only her story, but also of an entire village where the community stands together no matter what.
Gorgeous, wealthy Flynn Carter is not a past that Julia wanted to face again. But here he is in Heartcross, encroaching on her safe haven with plans of converting the Starcross manor to a world-class hotel facility. Flynn's plans threaten the welfare of the entire community with their small businesses and Julia is determined to stop him. But is Flynn Carter really the guy she thinks to be? Her past experiences advise her to be wary of him, but her heart is not planning to listen.
From beginning to end, this cute little story was the perfect getaway from the real world. As always, Christie Barlow never fails to amaze us.

Another gem of a story in this totally fabulous series.

Starcross Manor is easily a standalone and I feel this is the first time we have really got to know Julia, and her faithful colleague Eleni, in Julia's B&B.

Flynn we are introduced to briefly at the end of Clover Cottage and he is a difficult to try to describe. We initially are shown from Julia all the reasons we shouldn't trust Flynn, as they have had run ins in the past, but every time we see him, he seems like a really nice guy.

And Starcross Manor, now that is a hotel I would love to check into, it sounds lush, pure luxury with a wonderful array of facilities, yet it is because Starcross Manor that is being turned into a hotel and not retirement homes as the Heartcross community believe that causes all the main conflict in this story, let by Julia who is scared her B&B could be in danger.

From the first few pages, I felt instantly at home in this book. It was wonderful to be back in Heartcross, and to catch up with Isla, Felicity , and Allie from the previous books, catching up with old friends, and seeing how everyone was doing.

Christie Barlow had a stroke of genius when she cam up with this Love Heart Lane series, the books are all so warm and cosy to read, while full of realistic characters you can't help but care for and root for, and they are just fabulous stories.

This is exactly the sort of book I needed at the point I read it, it was able to take my mind off real life for the precious hours I was absorbed between the pages, and I already can't wait for the next book in the series. Please Christie Barlow, write faster, I need more!

Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Well, I started this lovely lovely book this afternoon, and finished it 5 hours later! Just was completely enthralled by it.
I have followed this series and each one is just a lovely window into the character's lives.
This one has a particularly decadent story, which is perfect for the moment and left me with a warm feeling.
So looking forward to reading the next book.

Julia Coleman owns and runs the bed and breakfast in Heartcross, a small village in the Scottish Highlands. Several years previously she had consoled a good friend when she was dumped on her wedding day and now she was astounded to see the erstwhile groom, millionaire property developer Flynn Carter, in the local pub. Julia had another reason to dislike the man since he had bought her beloved grandfather’s house for much less than it was worth, and then demolished it. But what was he doing in Heartcross?

Julia’s business was doing really well, due to the fact Heartcross had been in the news several times recently, and had become a popular tourist destination. Julia was planning on extending the B&B to create more guest rooms in order to cope with increasing visitor numbers. In fact, all the local businesses were benefitting from the tourist trade.

When it becomes clear Flynn’s recent purchase of Starcross Manor was not to convert it into a retirement home as the villagers believed, but turn it into a luxury five star hotel, Julia was devastated. Anxious about the future of her own business and the impact the hotel will have on the villagers’ businesses in general, she calls a meeting. Flynn is about to find out what a tight knit community feeling under threat can do.

I always enjoy revisiting idyllic Heartcross and its lovely community, and I liked the fact the two main protagonists are on the mature side. It makes a nice change. They are both interesting characters Flynn didn’t have that sense of his own importance, considering his impressive business successes, regardless of Julia’s initial impressions. And Julia was also an astute business woman in her own right and willing to fight for herself and the village.

Starcross Manor is character driven, showing how the community and individuals resolve the problems that arise, and as always the emphasis is on working together, friendship and community. I love the setting and the inhabitants of the village. Several threads run concurrently and are all woven together well, with humorous moments as well as romantic ones. A light, easy and enjoyable read.

I read this book as part of the blog tour organised by Rachel @ Rachel's Random Reads. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for providing the e-ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. 3 stars

Although Starcross Manor is book four in the Love Heart Lane series, it can very much be read as a standalone. This was a fun and easy read about mistaken first impressions, community and good friendships that left me feeling hopeful and warm. I liked that the protagonists in this book were older (Julia, our MC, turns 40 in the book) because I feel like there aren't many books that normalise finding love and even success above the age of 30, and that everything "good" happens when you're still in your 20s. Real life is not like that, so I feel like this made the book even more realistic!

While this is categorised as a romance, in my opinion the strongest part (and focus) of the story was more on the community and the friendships between the Heartcross residents. Reading stories where the people in small communities fully support each other in their businesses and also in their life outside of work, is so heartwarming, and makes me wish that I was part of "the gang" too! Reading about the close friendships between the women in this book also made me wish I had read the earlier novels in this series because they all seemed like fun characters! No spoilers but one thing I learned from this book was that you should never underestimate the power of a tight knight community and that you should never get on their bad side :)

The story is told through Julia's POV and what I wish we got was Flynn's POV too. I would've loved to get inside his head because I ended up really liking what was shared of his character and I was sad that we didn't get to know him better. He was a very genuine and charming character who intrigued me. I have to admit that Julia wasn't my favourite character. There were times she came across as too immature, and she often acted impulsively and made decisions that seemed questionable and out of character. But like I said, I really liked the friendships between the women and I particularly loved Eleni. She was such a great employee/friend! As for the romance, although there is chemistry between Julia and Flynn, I didn't really feel it because we're told and not shown it. While there are sweet moments throughout the story, they never get much alone time to build on their connection until the very end; and while I would normally be wanting more, (as this is meant to be a romance) I actually didn't mind it because the other relationships in the story were great!

TL;DR: This was a sweet story about mistaken first impressions, second chances, and the strength of tight knit communities and good friendships. I loved reading about older MCs and I would happily come back to the little village of Heartcross to learn more about the village and other characters.

Fabulous Read!

I really really really really enjoyed this book!

At the start I did wonder how Christie Barlow was going to bring these two characters together given their history.

I was totally surprised by the character of Flynn. When I eventually met this heartbreaking, brooding, wealthy, heartless property developer I wasn’t expecting to… (clears throat and looks over shoulder)…like him. I found myself saying, ‘hmmm…you are actually quite nice!’ I did apologise profusely to Julia and reassured her by saying I was still very much Team Julia. As the book progressed my feelings for Flynn intensified, I stopped apologising to Julia, went quiet on the whole Team Julia thing and took out my electric hand held fan.

Julia was a good character too. I felt that Flynn had met his match with Julia. She was as determined as him in a different way and I loved how she cared so strongly for her community.

I was also really happy to read that Julia turned forty in the book. Can I just take this opportunity to thank Christie Barlow for this! As a forty something woman I am always looking out for characters who represent my age group.

This is a great book and works well as a stand-alone. I have not read any of the others in the series and I thoroughly enjoyed this.

I won’t give the game away on whether Christie Barlow succeeds in her challenge but I did give her a little toast at the end.

You will be glad to know Flynn has promised to visit me in my dreams ❤️ Sorry Julia x

Some years ago, he jilted her friend on their wedding day. Now, he is in her small town, threatening her business and her heart.

Starcross Manor is a slow-burn romance between a couple in their forties with opposed business interests. It is set in a cozy small town with a lovely community.

Julia Coleman was the owner of a Bed and Breakfast in the small town of Heartcross, Scotland.

Business was good, and Julia was busy with her plans of expanding the B&B when Flynn Carter moved into town.

The last time Julia had heard about Flynn, was when he jilted her friend on their wedding day. She knew him to be a ruthless businessman and was worried to learn he was the new owner of Starcross Manor, a stunning Georgian manor house in the most beautiful part of the town.

But when Julia met Flynn, he seemed to have changed. He was kind, thoughtful, and so very handsome. Her mind kept telling her to be wary, but her heart refused to listen to reason.

I loved the fact that both Julia and Flynn were in their forties. They were reasonable and mature, and their relationship felt right.

It did not hurt that Flynn was gorgeous and so very sweet. He had that successful businessman allure without sounding overconfident.

Julia was also a lovely character, very determined to fight for her business and the welfare of her community.

Starcross Manor is a light and feel-good read. Great for a little escape.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

How thoroughly lovely it was to be back in Heartcross – I really do love this series, and I was really looking forward to spending time in the company of friends again. This time, it’s Julia at the B&B who’s the focus for the story – she’s made appearances in earlier books, but it was so good to get to know her rather better. She’s a little older, which is always something I really appreciate, because it can make a character easier for me to identify with: I particularly liked her relationship with her friend and sidekick Eleni, and really loved her infectious enthusiasm for developing her business further.

But there’s a shadow on the horizon, in the shape of Flynn Carter – he’s bought nearby Starcross Manor, and rather than turning it into the retirement development the villagers were rather expecting, it’s going to be a luxury hotel and wedding venue. That’s something that will threaten the livelihoods of quite a few of the villagers, but especially Julia’s plans for expanding the B&B – and she has history with Flynn, and a few very good reasons to neither like nor trust him.

The story is essentially a fairly classic enemies-to-friends one, with a good bit of tension and conflict, and more than a touch of things not being quite what they seem. There’s some particularly well written drama too, and an opportunity for all the villagers to pull together as they always do when the chips are down.

The characters are really excellent – I loved Julia from her first appearance, but Flynn’s character is developed so very well too. Did I mention that he’s rather hot? And he has hidden depths and a side to him that you really won’t be expecting – but you’ll need to discover that for yourself. But it’s not just Julia and Flynn who are great characters and very real people – every single supporting character, even the very minor ones like the guests at the B&B, is drawn in three dimensions with their quirks and foibles.

The writing is really excellent – so comfortable to read, infused with warmth, easy to escape into, well written dialogue and interplay between the characters, and the whole book a perfect balance of drama with lightness and humour. There’s a very strong sense of place too – the descriptions of the story’s setting are excellent, and I’m really getting to know Heartcross itself rather well now. But I really enjoyed the added dimension of Starcross Manor – its grounds, the luxurious interior, and the way the little touches of interior decoration drove the story forward at times and contributed to the character development.

This was a really lovely read, and highly recommended – and I’m already looking forward to the fifth book in the series, The Lake House, due out on 10th December (available for preorder).

When B & B owner Julia finds out that newcomer Flynn is going to turn Starcross Manor into a five star hotel she is worried about the impact on her business and on the community as a whole. Especially as her last encounter with Flynn wasn’t the best, he jilted one of her good friends before their wedding. But has Julia jumped to conclusions? Is the gorgeous Flynn really as bad as she thinks?

A lovely addition to the Love Heart Lane series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Pretty cute read. Julia has never been my favorite Heartcross resident so I went into this kind of blah. She was a bit insufferable tbh so who knows what people see in her. Nice to see the other residents back though. I'll read the next book.

My copy was provided by NetGalley for review, all opinions are my own.

Cute story, perfect for some light escapism. I probably would have liked this more if I'd read the whole series in order instead of jumping in at book #4, but I still enjoyed it. Though I am disappointed that we had to wait until the last few chapters for them to kiss - what is this, a Disney Channel Original Movie? 😩

This is a brilliant addition to this fantastic series, a delightful book which shows that sometimes even your best friends can fool you and you should always try to see things from more than one point of view!

The community of Heartcross had no idea what is planned for Starcross Manor until B&B owner, Julia Coleman meets the ex fiancé of her best friend, that man who broke off their engagement on their wedding day, breaking her heart. She doesn't trust him, especially as he ruthlessly purchased her grandfather's property for a bargain price . . . . When she finds out he's converting the old Manor into a luxury 5* hotel, she's anxious about the impact this will have on her business and that of others in the community. What she hadn't realised was just what the reaction of the members of the community would be - Flynn is in for some surprises!

This is a heartwarming read, a story where the truth is revealed, Julia and her guests are rescued, new romances blossom and there's even a fabulous birthday party as well as plenty of surprises for so many people - including Julia. The community is amazing, their support for each other practical and instant, their characters superbly portrayed. I'm really loving escaping into Heartcross and this story is no exception - I can't wait to read more about the antics, escapades, romances and community in future.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and thoroughly enjoying doing so!

It was so good to be back in Heartcross again. This is such a wonderful village filled which such lovely characters. Whilst the village is very idyllic, the residents aren’t feeling quite the same with the threat of a new luxury hotel threatening the local businesses.

Flynn Carter, wow what a character! I could feel myself having a fictional crush coming on. I mean, a good looking, single and rich man. What isn’t there to love about him? The more we get to know him, the more in love with him I got and oh how jealous I was of Julia.

I love the authors writing style. It instantly draws me in and I can easily visualise the area as well as Julia’s B&B and Starcross Manor. If anything I felt like I had been sucked into the pages as it was all playing out in my head and I felt like I was there with the characters, experiencing everything they were for myself.

Starcross Manor is filled with hopes, dreams, friendships and romance. It is the perfect escapism that I didn’t want to end. With each book, the story focuses on a different character so that although part of a series, all the books read great as standalone’s. The chemistry between Julia and Flynn had me totally enthralled and I so enjoyed the anticipation of whether these two would become an item or not. Of course to discover that, you will need to read it for yourself. Loved it!

My thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to be part of the tour and to One More Chapter and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

This is book #4 in the Love Heart Lane series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book. We return to the little Scottish village of Heartcross where the story focusses on Julia Coleman who own the village’s Bed and Breakfast. When mysterious Flynn Carter returns to the village, Julia is keen to find out what his plans are in renovating Starcross Manor. Julia and Flynn’s paths have crossed some years before and she certainly makes it clear that she still doesn’t trust him. Has Flynn changed since they last met though?

I have loved this series so far so was very happy to return to Heartcross. The village sounds like the perfect place to live with its heart-warming community spirit and scenic views. Each book of the series has introduced us to different members of the village and this time it was the turn of Julia Coleman. Her Bed and Breakfast sounds absolutely delightful and I found my mouth watering at every mention of a full Scottish breakfast, cooked by Julia’s assistant and friend, Eleni.

Julia is a lovely character, although I did feel a little bit sorry for her at the beginning of the book. She was weeks off her 40th birthday, yet she seems to spend all her time and energy running her Bed and Breakfast, with no time in her life for any romance. You would think when drop dead gorgeous Flynn Carter turns up that things might change romantically for Julia, but unfortunately it looks like her luck may change in other ways (and not good ones!) Whilst he does manage to get her pulse racing, it is obvious that she still bears grudges over what has happened in the past! I personally would have forgiven Flynn for anything as he was hotter than a summer’s day!!! His character was everything you could want – kind, charming, good looking and of course…rich! I was however, in a dilemma over whether he could be trusted, as Julia seemed a good judge of character, and my opinion of him changed throughout the book!!

The storyline had me hooked from page one and once started I found it very difficult to put down! As with the other books of the series, the whole village and the characters who lived there filled the storyline with warmth, love and the friendships that were built between all the villagers. The author has such a special way of enveloping the reader into the love and friendships that come from these characters, making you feel like you’ve known them forever! Of course, it’s obvious where the storyline will end up, but it was a fun and enthralling journey to get there! The pace of the book was perfect, holding my attention throughout the story and I fell in love with the book well before I had got to the end! This is definitely my favourite book of the series so far, and I can’t wait to catch up with the villagers again in any forthcoming books of the series! This wasn’t just a fun romantic read; it was also a book full of new beginnings and second chances!! Would definitely recommend!! Fab, fab, fab!!!

Not once so far in the brilliant series that is Love Heart Lane has Christie Barlow disappointed in any way. In fact each book just gets better and better and I can’t get enough of them. I’m gutted that I race too quickly through each story and am then left waiting many months for the next book to arrive. Starcross Manor is book number four and each book is written so it is easy to read as a stand alone but in my opinion you should start at the beginning and work your way through them just to appreciate the overall picture Christie has built up of the picturesque and close knit community in the Scottish Highlands that is Heartcross.

Every time I read one of these books I wish that the village was real and not fictional so that I could visit and meet all the characters who have become almost like friends. Each story focuses on a different character and I love how we are expanding out of the village itself into the surrounding areas so that we are really getting a flavour for all that Heartcross has to offer in terms of the wide variety of characters, the different settings and the overall ambience and warm and cosy feeling that it creates.

Julia Coleman runs the guesthouse in Heartcross and it is something that she thoroughly enjoys. She studied tourism and hospitality in college and has put her skills to good use. She thrives on providing the best experience that she possibly can for her guests and gets so much satisfaction from good reviews and seeing the happy smiling faces of everyone that stays. She managed to buy the guesthouse with the proceeds from the sale of her grandfather’s house but she feels selling his house was a decision that she was railroaded into by property developer Flynn Carter. She knows the property was worth more and it held such special memories for her but it was a cash offer which would see her dreams become a reality so she accepted.

Due to his shady business deal and the fact that he dumped her best friend right on the morning of their wedding Julia really has a thing against Flynn. So when several years later he makes an appearance in Heartcross that seems to be more than just fleeting Julia is shocked and really can’t bare to look at him nor to have any dealings with him. She hopes to avoid him at all costs with interaction if necessary, to be minimal. I could totally see where Julia was coming from in relation to her stance regarding Flynn. She had been hurt on a personal level as her grandfather’s house had meant so much to her but she was also angry on her friend’s behalf. She feels Flynn provided her with an opportunity to make something of her life but in doing so he also took advantage of her. But on the other hand I thought why is Julia holding on to such animosity. Maybe she should let the past stay in the past and perhaps Flynn is in the village for a good reason and might have a justifiable reason for his actions. Maybe a leopard can change his spots?

Heartcross itself is booming as it made headline news in recent months, the reason for this was the main story of one of the earlier books, and everyone from Julia’s guesthouse, to the pub, the tea rooms, the glamping site and farm are all doing well but news reaches the villagers that is not very pleasing. Julia in particular is really aggravated. Even though Eleni who works for her in the B&B tries to calm her down and see things from a rational view, it seems she has a bee in her bonnet, strong opinions and a history that means she refuses to let certain things happen. Why Julia feels this way is that she discovers Flynn is renovating the nearby Starcross Manor in order to turn it into a luxury hotel with all the mod cons and your every little need catered for. Not to mention the Boathouse he plans to turn into a watersports area. Julia is traumatised when she discovers the plans and rightly so. Everything she has worked so hard for and all the time and effort getting her business up and running and making sure it was successful could all be for nothing? Why would tourists want to stay with her if they could have a wonderful experience provided by Flynn?

This pressing issue forms the main plot of the book and I just love how Christie always has a dilemma/conundrum that must be dealt with. It’s always something that affects so many people within the village and their need to resolve it or fight against it shows their true community spirit, their passion and the bonds of friendship and solidarity really coming to the fore. It demonstrates the village means so much to everyone and friendship, support and community will always shine through. But has Julia gotten the wrong end of the stick? Should she have questioned further to find out finer details before she jumped the gun and had the entire village on Flynn’s back.Literally giving him the cold shoulder and trying to stop the renovations.

The minute that Julia laid eyes on Flynn again with his movie star good looks and oodles of charisma I felt the fizz of chemistry between them and this was evident in every scene that they featured in together. But I think Julia had such preconceived notions about him and what he was trying to achieve, and I could understand why given their history. Yet at the same time I felt she really walked herself into the big situation that develops by not telling the truth to the villagers. She’s not the kind of person that would want trouble to befall others so I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see how she was going to get herself out of trouble. If she succeeded in this, would Flynn be willing to forgive her and listen to her? To be honest I would have found it difficult considering what she did but Flynn was just the most brilliant of characters that I really just want a Flynn all for myself. Deep down he is a good egg and Julia needed some convincing to see this and the way he sets about doing this was just wonderful and so sweet.

Of course there has to be lots of drama and not just in the relationship department in this series and it comes in the form of something devastating happening to Julia. It was awful what happened to her but it provided opportunities for other avenues to open within the overall story and led to lots of surprising developments. The majority of which I was really glad to see happen. Said event also meant that the residents of Heartcross got to show their community spirit and that its never forced or all an act. They really do care for each other and will help anyone out in anyway they can in times of need and show that out of something negative will always come a positive.

Starcross Manor is just the most wonderful of reads and it’s one you’ll easily sit and read in one sitting, but be aware you’ll be gutted you did so, so try and savour it as long as possible. It’s impossible to stop reading once you start as you get so caught up in Julia’s story and just really care for her as a character and want nothing but good for her. At the same old familiar faces make an appearance and I love that this continually happens and that we get to see a different aspect to them as they are not the main character featuring but still, they are not gone and forgotten. I couldn’t recommend this book enough. The story that awaits you inside is a joy to read and the little clues as to may feature in the next book dropped in towards the end. Well they are just tantalising but thankfully Christie is not leaving us waiting too long to discover the answers as The Lake House will be published in December 2020 and in even better news there will also be another book Primrose Park to look forward to in 2021.

Starcross Manor is part of a series by Christie Barlow - ‘Love Heart Lane Series’. That being said, it can still be read as a standalone as I have not read any of the previous instalments and did not suffer for it. I was looking for something light and easy and a trip to a small Scottish village sounded just the thing. It proved just that - light and enjoyable.

Book four of the series concerns Julia Coleman, the local B & B owner and one of the best aspects about this character was her age and attitude. She turned 40 in the book and it was refreshing to read how comfortable she was about that. There are some wonderfully fun and supportive friendships and experiences that are heartening to read about. I particularly enjoyed her getting ready for a ‘date’ and the haircut and trying on clothes ‘wobbly bits’ inclusive. One surely has to appreciate the honesty in the writing and that will appeal to many.

‘Julia relished her independence after one disastrous relationship after another, and often she was the envy of her friends, who indicated they’d love to be in her situation, with no ties. Julia loved her own company, she could do what she wanted when she wanted, but sometimes she missed that special someone to share the exciting things in life with.’

Heartcross sounds an idyllic place to visit, from the Scottish countryside to life in a small village. There are great moments of community spirit and it is wonderful to read how they all look out for each other. The plot is simple but that’s okay as this is a book all about the characters and their interactions. My one issue was with the leading man, Flynn. He was just too good to be true and I found his generous qualities too extreme and repeatedly unbelievable.

This was just the book I was looking for, light and refreshing, with just the right amount of miscommunications and family and friends rallying to the cause to get me invested. A sweet book to spend a few hours escapism with - something we are all in need of.

‘Sometimes you have to forgive and forget, and move on.’

Another brilliant book by the all start author Christie Barlow. This is part of a series ( Love Herat Lane)but can you read it as a stand alone book? Yes you can. This is the fourth book in the instalment and i cannot wait for the Fifth. Each book concentrates on others friends and their relationships and if you wish the read them from the start, then i suggest you do that because there are sections that go back to previous books, such as her last book when the bridge between Heartcross and Glensheil fell down and the community came together- my favourite book!
We begin by sitting in the local village of Heartcross, sunny highlands, the sun is shining and our main girl Julia is running the villages B&B but then a newcomes arrives to open up a manor house which everone believes wou;d be a retirement home. Problems occur with this new venture because the man who is doing this renovatiopn work is only the man who dumped one of her friends on her wedding day. Julia doesnt trust this man at all and it is very cautious to him- Flynn. Before you know it, Julia and the other villagers have stopped all contractors working for Flynn and by this time theres is a catasphophy with the B&B and its fully booked, where will all the guests go?
Julia comes to an agreement with Flynn and as they start to forget the past then work forwards in helping each other with each other buisnesses and everyone else in the village, Flynn seems to have changed his ways! or has he? I am not going to give you the main body of the book because it is just brilliant, theires untrusting people, sexy man and he cant be trusted but how this plays out is simply brilliant. The story is brilliant and flows so easily like all of her books. Curl up by the fire pit in the garden and enjoy the book, i didnt take long to read this but i couldnt put it down. My attention these past 2 years have been quite poor but christie books always gets my attention and helps me... anyone is a sticky time of their life, pick up one of her books and enjoy!

I’ve read two of the three previous titles in this series, after grabbing a lovely story from this author and finding myself enchanted. This story introduces us to Julia, owner of a local B&B in Heartcross, and is excited to have gotten planning permission to expand her little enterprise. Perfectly situated, and now known more than ever after a flood destroyed the bridge into town and the town was featured on the news. She and her employee Eleni are busy and moving along well, when Julia comes to dig out more information about Flynn, the new owner of Starcross Manor.

Past history between Julia and Flynn leave her believing that he’s more like the careless millionaires that Scotland has dealt with in the past with golf clubs, and when it’s made perfectly clear that the manor is to be a 5 star resort hotel, Julia is instantly worried about her own business and that of those in the little village. For his part, Flynn never hid that he was building a hotel, and truly believes that it will help both the village and his own place with all of the amenities. But finding a magazine story about Flynn’s history gives Julia more fuel for her resentment, and she brings the town together to ‘warn’ them about him.

E Flynn was, at first, everything Julia believed him to be – and determined to succeed at all costs. But the biggest misunderstanding was all for show and Julia only saw the last part of the show, leaving her with many questions, a bad impression and lots of worries. But an unexpected heatwave and a flood in her B&B, when Flynn stepped up and provided help, support and a way to take care of her clients even as the B&B was being repaired, bring us all full circle to the point where they actually talk, the attraction that was simmering comes to light, and Julia’s ideas for Starcross Manor also bring in the town and village- where they all get a chance to move forward and onward to the next great installment. Grab these for a getaway to a place where friendship, support and love are all-consuming and leave you with a smile.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I love heading to Scotland and to the village of Heart Cross. This is my fourth trip to this gorgeous place and I know it’s not going to be my last. I adore the characters Barlow has created in this series and Starcross Manor is no different.

Julia gets a proper blast from the past when Flynn Carter appeared back in her life during the on-goings of Clover Cottage and I knew this would open a whole new chain of interesting events … why else introduce someone to cause friction and oh boy there is friction … and sparks!!! Julia is convinced this leopard hasn’t changed his spots after causing her heartache over the sale of her grandfather’s property and then the heartbreak when he left her friend at the altar…. is this rather dashing man the ruthless business man she knew??

I’ve come to know and love the residents of Heart Cross and I was delighted to get to know B&B owner Julia better after having met her in the previous novels. She’s a genuinely nice person who wants the best for her friends but she doesn’t suffer fools gladly. But her heart and her head are in conflict when she becomes reacquainted with the delicious Flynn. Should she follow her knowledge or should she take a chance?

I was entranced as the story played out before me. I love the community spirit she’s created in Heart Cross. Everyone pulling together when the chips are down and the atmosphere when there is something to celebrate. I would love to relocate to this fictional village if I could. The thought of being welcomed into such a close knit caring village, away from the stresses and strains of the rat race would be bliss #agirlcandream. This is an ideal addition to the series and I can’t wait for the next instalment, The Lake House when it’s out later this year.

Who would you believe when something devastating happens? Would it be one of your best friends or the soon husband to be? I guess we all would stand by the friend and wish all the worst possible things to happen to the instigator of the hurt and humiliation. And then you run into that man again ...

It must be really great to be part of a small village, filled with friends who don't hesitate to step in and help when one of their own has a problem. They also close ranks when the future of their businesses is in danger. But sometimes something that looked really bad at first sight, can become heaven on earth.

Who needs a millionaire when you have found love? Unless he is a millionaire of course ;)

I loved this book. I am off now, packing my suitcase and travelling to Starcross Manor. Well, I wish. That's what happens when authors can write in such a way that you really believe those places exist. I will content myself with visits through the pages of this excellent series. 5 stars.

I would like to thank NetGallery, One More Chapter Publishing, and author Christie Barlow for a free E-Arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
While this book is the fourth book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. I was immediately drawn to this book due to the premise of a small Scottish village romance. The characters throughout this book were so cute and heartwarming. This book really had me wanting to move to this village due the closeness and unity these shop owners had towards one another when they thought an outside was threatening their livelihood. Julia and Flynn were an amazing couple. I liked how they had somewhat of a history, but it did not overshadow the story line nor their developing relationships as both hotel/B&B owners and a little later in their personal life. I enjoyed the pacing of this book especially with the developments in their romantic relationship. The author allowed the readers to let the characters work out all of the misunderstandings and then slowly learn to work with one another before a relationship really got started. I found myself smiling throughout this book and was so excited to start and finish this book in one sitting. Overall, I really loved this book and will certainly be reading the previous books in this series!

And just like that I’m transported right back into the village like I’d never left! I love the way all of the past story lines all tie up and thread throughout this book.
Another excellent addition to the series, which can be read just as well as a stand-alone.

The dialogue and writing style flowed effortlessly and I loved reading about Julia and Flynnn and their journey. I was very invested in the storyline from the very beginning. I just only wish there was more of it... cannot wait to read the next one!

For someone who normally only reads crime and psychological thrillers I absolutely love this series ❤️ I’m obsessed with it in fact over the last few weeks I read five books in the Loveheart Lane series and I’ve adored everyone of them. These are the type of books that you can immerse yourself in as you follow the lives of Christie Barlow’s larger than life characters.
