Max Brand, one of America's most popular and prolific novelists and author of such enduring works as Destry Rides Again and the Doctor Kildare stories, died on the Italian front in 1944.
I have been a fan of westerns since my younger days, particularly L’Amour and his Sackett stories. I have seen Max Brand novels before and finally gave one a shot. Sleeper and his magnificent horse Careless are the main heroes in this short book of what really amount to a group of short stories. A decent and fun read.
