I only wish Foote had written another novel, as much as I like his plays. While The Chase reflected his playwrighting organization and scheme, with some sections reading almost as if it was a play, this work really spoke to me and conveyed a real sense of humanity. And the rural east TX color! Haven't seen the Brando/Fonda movie, but from what I gather via IMDB and other sources, it was not at all true to what Foote wrote here. Loved it!
