Big time adventure awaits the Beacon Street Girls and the rest of the seventh grade. The class is heading to Lake Rescue in New Hampshire for outdoor adventure. Will Nick's attention to Isabel make Charlotte wonder about her own feelings? And will the physical challenges of this outdoor adventure prove too much for one overweight seventh grade girl?
The Beacon Street Girls books are inspired by all the preteen girls I've ever known. I wanted to create a world where girls can go to have fun and learn about who they are, while modeling real-life experiences. The first book, Worst Enemies/Best Friends, explores creating and testing friendships, skewed first impressions, and being the new kid at school. In the end, true friendship conquers all. Welcome to the world of the BSG!
I have a rule in my life. It is simple. It does not require much effort. Can you guess that rule? It is to love myself for me. I am sick of countless people promoting unhealthy anorexic girls to the public. Being anorexic is not cool, it is sickening. You could die from it. But you should not be overwieght either. In fact, obesity is on a rise in America. This book, although intended for ages 9-13, is a fantastic read.
Let me tell you why. It is about an obese and constantly teased girl named Chelsea Briggs (though she is called Chelsea 'Bigs' because of her size. She does not particpate in phsyical activity and is shocked to realize that she must attend the annual trip to Lake Rescue. Readers see in this book the difficulties that she encounters from wearing a boys coat to being last in a race. But her life takes a new course with some help from a fit counslor and her entire class realizes, size isn't everything.
An inspiring tale and a refreshing change from the usual format Beacon Sreet Girls use. I reccomend this book to anyone of all ages, even if someone reads it to you.
Beacon Street Girls Lake Rescue (#6) by: Annie Bryant is about the Beacon Street Girls (Avery, Charlotte, Maeve, Katani, and Isabel) and their outdoors adventures. Their seventh grade class is going on a school field trip to the woods. Charlotte and Avery being the adventurous ones are out of their minds excited for the trip, but on the other hand Katani, Isabel, and Maeve are not looking forward to this school activity. Katani and Isabel are city girls and Maeve hates the outdoors, the bugs, snakes, and bears scare her. She begs her mom practically everyday to let her stay at home instead of going on the trip. At the same time, none of the girls want to be the only one that's not going on the trip or miss out on the exciting activities that are planned. They all end up going and ultimately end up having an extreme amount of fun. They rock climb, canoe, and have to run demanding obstacle courses. This book deals with friendship and trying new things. I thought this book was okay. At points in the book it could be very intriguing, but at parts it could be partly boring. I also think the author used a lack of descriptive adjectives. She made a majority of sentences very simple instead of using better word choices and it would have made it much better. I would recommend this book if you want a easy reader.
I really liked this book because you learn that you can do anything, anything that could surprise you. Take Chelsea for example in the book, she was overweight and didn't like to exercise that much. When she gets stressed out, she eats. But she discovers something that she didn't even know she had in her. She had confidence and a chance to be happy. With a help from Jody, Chelsea realized she can solve her problem of being overweight, solve the Kiki problem, and help her green team get back to the camp site since they are lost. The BSG also learned new things about themselves. All of them realized that they LOVE camping. Charlotte learned that she loves outdoor adventures. Avery learned to always watch your step since she sprained her ankle. Totally hurts! Katani learned that she is a fast walker and is perfect the way she is, not comparing herself to her perfect older sisters. Maeve is planning on going with her dad and Sam to camp for vacation. Sounds like a good idea. To conclude, Chelsea took really good pictures. Wish I could see them!

Great series for middle school girls. Five 7th grade friends prepare for an “outdoor education week” at Lake Rescue. Some are more excited about this adventure than others, but they all learn lessons about themselves and dealing with others on the trip. An overweight classmate, Chelsea, is featured in this story. She gains self-confidence and learns new strategies for losing weight without putting so much pressure on herself. At the end of the book there are bookgroup-style discussion questions; a “Word Nerd Dictionary” (glossary); trivia questions about the story; and a “Healthy You” section which contains tips on how to stay healthy and recipes for low-fat healthy snacks.
Fitting with my obsession with nutrition and my anger that girls are pressed to be perfect Barbie dolls... this book was refreshing. And I'm not just saying that! The girls go on a school trip to Lake Rescue camp with their class, and Chelsea Briggs, a larger classmate, deals with her weight and feeling like she is too fat. The book's themes go along with accepting yourself for who you are, healthy eating and exercise, and ignoring the criticism that comes at us all every day from the media.
As far as the story goes this book should actually be given a two. The story was cute but not really much to it. I am giving it a bonus star for the positive message it gives concerning treating people with kindness and the lessons it shares with girls about developing a positive body image. There are good tips on how to make healthy choices and even resources in the back with websites and books to help deal with weight issues. A good book to give to all girls.
I loved this book. Chelsea kind of relates to me, even though i'm not fat like her. What she learns from Jody will help me with my life, and I guess that's what Annie Bryant was going for. I feel really bad for Avery though... To find out what happened to her, read the book! I give this book 5 stars *****
I just finished reading this book. It was really good. It was about the girls' seventh grade class going to camp "Lake Rescue." The camp reminded me of when we went to Nature's Classroom for a week in sixth grade. This a a good book, and an easy read.
I learned that you should NOT tease someone, especially about their appearance. Also, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, and you can accomplish things that you didn't even think you could do! You may just end up being the hero of a bad situation. :-)
I LOVED this book. It really says something about the BSG's personality. And I loved how they added Chelsea Briggs to the mix. It was great how one week, that she thought would be terrible, could really change her life!

I really like this book b/c it taught me to appreciate te outdoors even though u won't ever see me in the woods hiking. But I like how the characters learn to like the woods and nature too. Even though the series is for ppl ages 9- 13 any girl could read it and enjoy it.
This is probably on of my favorite Beacon Street Girls books. Loved the plot of it and I really wish I could have an adventure like the one the girls had. So glad I bought it because it's a great read for nights when I want something light and fun before bed :)
i really liked this book. it reminded me of when i went to science camp. i felt that the book related to me and liked the fact that the characters and storyline seemed down-to-earth.
It was a good book. It wasn't great because it probably could have had more happening while they were camping. It was a teensy bit boring. Overall, I'm glad I read it though.
