Prof. Arnold Thackray is a key figure in the growth of the discipline of history of science in the late 20th century. He served as editor of the History of Science Society's primary journal ISIS, and editor of HSS's newly-revived journal OSIRIS. He was founder of the Center for History of Chemistry, transforming it into the Chemical Heritage Foundation, one of the most active institutions in the field. This selection of his essays is published in honor of his 80th birthday, with contributions from his former graduate students.
