What a cute little book! I got this from my father when I was just starting off on my journey as a reader, and when I found it again in my basement I remembered loving it as a kid.

Caroline Tiger does such a good job of presenting a bit of history of wizardry to young readers while also teaching important, subtle lessons about finding your zen and your own space (here articulated as a 'magic circle'). As a kid, I loved looking around the backyard for the perfect spot to sit and be a wizard, and testing out all manner of 'wands'. Some of the science-y 'spells' are quite fun and really do work which is again, a really subtle way to set kids on the path to being interested in science while still fostering the imagination peculiar to children that we adults so envy.

Heck, even as an adult re-reading this years and years later I found myself working over my backyard in my mind for the perfect spot for my magic circle, and I may well make a 'dream pillow' for myself.

Very inclusive and charming--I'd definitely consider this 'required reading' for any budding wizard =)

I was obsessed with this book when I was a kid. I knew it was fiction, but the way it was presented as a guide made me think, "well, maybe, if magic is actually real, I can maybe learn some?" It was lots of fun and I've thought of this book many times over my adult life, if for no other reason than the artistic design.

Anyway, I'm a witch now.

I've had this book for YEARS and I decided it was time to re-read it. The last time I read it was when I first got it back in 2002 for my birthday, so this re-read is long overdue!

I remember that after I read this book for the first time, I went outside, found a stick that could work for a wand and started trying to cast spells. At one point I thought I actually cast one because sirens from police and fire trucks started going off. Mind you I lived on 160 acres 3 miles outside of town. That was strange to me. However I found out later that there had been a disturbance about a mile away from my house and that was why there were sirens. BIG letdown to someone who wanted to badly to be magical (although I really am magical because I have premonitions and have been having them ever since I was a child...so woo!)

This is a great book for those who want are or want to become magical, although honestly, everyone is magical in my book.

This book is a multimedia handbook for any wizard/witch obsessed kid. There is a quiz to see how much of a wizard you are. There is a chart telling you what different animals can do magically. There is information on famous movies that have wizards or witches in them.

This book does not follow the Harry Potter craze but it is a fun silly book. A great present too.
