This is a dense, detailed look at the archaeological legacy of Marija Gimbutas's work on prehistoric Europe. It shows how her discoveries have challenged older assumptions about the origins of civilization and the roles of women in it. More recent work has filled in a more complete picture, but this volume is still mainly fascinating.
