This was supposed to be their dream come true. But now someone is dead . . .
Moving to the idyllic forest town of DeVerre, Washington, was supposed to be Peter and Spencer Collins’ big break. The brothers’ objective was simple: secure their inheritance by the deadline, publish a novel, and become famous authors. They never expected treachery and mayhem to lurk around every corner. Or the monsters of their mystery stories to manifest in the beasts of the spirit world.
In the wake of a fight for their lives, their attacker is dead—but are they any closer to safety? Or has the danger only begun as they search for long-hidden secrets locked in the vault concealed within their home? With the help of new-found friends and an unlikely ally, the brothers must cast aside all doubts and search for the truth of their heritage—supernatural powers and all—and its link to the past before danger strikes again.
It’s a fight for survival, and the battle is only beginning.
V.K. Dixon writes fantasy and romance novels filled with found family, lasting love, and unique magic. She believes that the extraordinary gives us a deeper desire for the things beyond us; for the things of God.
A thrilling follow up to Lake of Glass. I really enjoyed the deeper relationship development between the characters, as well as learning more about DeVerre's history. Just like the first book, Vault of Stone is the perfect spooky read for this time of year: chillingly atmospheric while retaining a clear sense of traditional Christian values of good and evil.
Genre: contemporary fantasy Book two of the Archives of the Warden series (you’ll want to start with Lake of Glass)
𝚜𝚙𝚘𝚒𝚕𝚎𝚛 𝚏𝚛𝚎𝚎 𝚛𝚎𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠 The intrigue, the banter, the slow burn, oh my!
The Collins brothers, Peter and Spencer, are so relatable and realistic. It’s impossible not to love them. V. K. is such an excellent world builder. Seriously. She has such a unique voice. It’s detailed, but not distracting. She sets the stage in such a way that it feels like you’re right there with them… which only builds suspense.
My favorite thing about this series so far is how many layers there are. It’s like a puzzle I need to solve–it makes me feel like I'm in DeVerre myself! The book is so rich in research and plotting.
Read VOS if you like: – Lightly spooky vibes – Christian themes – Stranger Things – Slooooow burn romance – The PNW – Prophecies and mysteries
Ps – This book was gifted to me by the author, but the review is entirely honest and my own opinions.
Deverre has many secrets and this story will have you flipping the pages to devour every one of them. I love how immersive V.K.'s writing is not only are the characters well developed but this world goes deep very deep. I love the biblical faith woven through the stories how the characters are real people who struggle with pride, doubt and fear. I love how V.k talks about the unseen world and brings an image to it she takes you into their world and you see what the characters see. I absolutely love the Collins brothers and Cassandra. You are going to love this second book it's thrilling, exciting and it will have you on the edge of your reading area wanting more. You will go through several emotions while reading, humor, slow burn, hold your breath moments betrayal, anger you name it you'll feel it. Highly highly recommend!!
I really enjoyed this sequel. The Collins brothers are back at it, and when I tell you that this is a ride...well, buckle up. The strongest aspect of this series is the characters. Peter and Spencer Collins have the best brotherly relationship, and I love that we have a book where a healthy set of bros are working together to fight evil. It's great. Peter is my favorite and I love him to death. (Don't worry, I love Spencer, too.) The plot is wild. We have lots of answers and lots of new questions and I am ready for it. A perfect read for a dark and stormy day.
Lastly, that ending. How dare she. I can't wait for the next book.
Content warnings: (some very slight spoilers)
There is some brief strong language. I would call it PG-13. Its pretty brief though and I was easily able to skip over it. Otherwise clean. The romance is very sweet and mild. Now, some of you who know me, know I have some very strong lines regarding supernatural/paranormal books. This did not cross any of my personal lines. I never felt uncomfortable. The spirit world in the books is clearly noted to be fake by the author herself and with the exception of there being a clear light v. darkness theme, none of it came across as blasphemous as so many books like this do in my opinion. While the book is indeed from a Christian perspective and the characters are supposed to be Christians, this lands very squarely in the "we are good people and we are fighting monsters and because we know God, then we know we don't have to be afraid" territory. I can get behind that. There are NO angels/demons. None of the spiritual elements come off as anything but monster hunting to me. With that said, would I recommend this to just anybody? No. Would I recommend it to someone who wanted to watch Supernatural for the brotherly love and the monster hunting but could not because of the blasphemous plotline? Absolutely yes.
I received an ARC from the author. I was not required to leave a review, positive or negative. All thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.
Mysterious prologue from an anonymous sinister character? An ever-growing list of questions that need answers? Learning who to trust as the danger increases and more lives are at stake? Ancient lore to be discovered and a potential secret vault?
This is one exciting story!
It picks up right where "Lake of Glass" (Book 1) leaves off and Spencer, Peter, and now Cassandra are left to deal with the aftermath of that disaster. Even more world- and relationship-building happens in this book, but it’s nearly all through relational and realistic conversations so it doesn’t read as tedious narration. You learn as the characters learn which makes the unfolding story interesting and suspenseful! Characters make hard choices, Truth comes to light, and more questions and problems are revealed. I enjoyed every plot twist and look forward to seeing how Dixon pulls all of this together!
And, wow- that cliffhanger!
You don’t want to miss this one! Highly recommend!
I was so happy to be back in DeVerre with Peter and Spencer!
Immediately following the events of book 1, the brothers, Cassandra, and some unlikely allies begin searching for the Vault in Occasus, which is is supposed to hold the answers to their questions about themselves, the spirit works, and the Druids.
This installment is a slow-burn, and it's rich in character insight and history. Victoria did a great job once again of laying out the complicated family lines and revealing more insight into the supernatural aspects of the story. The last several chapters are action packed and I'm on the edge of my seat with that cliff-hanger!
I am also so giddy about Spencer and Cassandra! Their flirting is so cute <3
Okay, so at times the level of detail was challenging for me. But it did set the story up perfectly so that you were learning with Peter and Spencer as they were uncovering the secrets of the town and what was happening in DeVerre. The action ramps up in this one. The mystery deepens. And the plot thickens.
I enjoyed this book and the last 25% I could not put down - and that cliffhanger! I can’t wait for the next book!
This book was gifted to me by the author for my review.
After finishing the first book, I couldn’t wait to start this one and then couldn’t put it down! Finished it in one day. The plot is intriguing, the character dynamics are believable, and there’s just enough mystery to keep you guessing. Can’t wait to read the next one.
A stunning second book in the Archives of the Warden Series, Vault of Stone had me hooked every step of the way. I absolutely love these characters and can’t wait to find out what happens next!
