Ethan Knight – sweet, Southern, striker. He spent the beginning of his career playing in Major League Soccer and with the US Men’s National Team. But an offer to play for a Premier League club – even a mid-level one like Stanmore FC – is too good an opportunity to turn down. He signs a new contract and in doing so, his ticket to a new life in London. It’s a whole new world for him, but Ethan has never let fear stand in his way, and he’s not about to start now. Especially not when he meets the beautiful legal assistant who gives him the strangest feeling…like they’ve met before. He’s more than ready to scale the walls around her heart to find out why.

Billie Axton - aloof, Londoner, legal assistant at Stanmore Football Club. Stuck in a job she hopes will one day help her with her goal of a career in law. If only she could work up the nerve to actually apply to law school. But a dream that’s haunted her since childhood makes her so afraid to fail, she doesn’t even try. Not with her goals or her love life. No risk, no heartbreak, right? Right. Not even when the hot new striker shows up with his Southern charm and his generous spirit. And that odd nagging in her heart that she knows him from somewhere. All the more reason to keep her distance.

They must navigate their feelings together, with plenty at stake – their jobs, the FA Cup, and most importantly, their own hearts.

One thing about me, I love a 'we're destined to be together' kind of story. There's something so comforting to me about souls that will always find each other in this life and the next. So We'll Meet Again was always going to tick that box for me, and it definitely didn't disappoint!

We follow Ethan and Billie after Ethan - a smooth, charming, Southern striker - moves to London to play football for the club Billie works at. Ethan is smitten from the get go (another guilty pleasure of mine haha) and Kelsey really beautiful writes their journey of going from strangers to falling in love. It's believable, sweet, has its bumps, and culminates in a well deserved ending for them both.

I think what I most adored about this was how Ethan stayed true to himself throughout. He knew what he wanted, was honest, communicative, and loyal - but didn't stay when he felt like things weren't right. It is SO hard to step away from someone you love when they're hurting you (even if it unintentional) and I really admired that Ethan was strong enough to do this.

Billie also goes through a huge transformation and grows, learns to communicate and truly love herself. It was really nice to follow along on her journey, and you can't help but to root for her. She's been through some shit and I wanted her to have her happy ending - I just needed her to want to it too!

This was a lovely debut that hit so many of my sweet spots - I can't wait to see what Kelsey has planned next!

Yep, I cried but good gravy THIS WAS SO GOOD. Ugh way to make me wish for something so special and romantic. Sometimes romance books do more damage to my hopeless romantic heart. But I really loved this and HIGHLY recommend it.

We’ll Meet Again by Kelsey Painter is a such sweet debut sport romance novel.

I’m such a big fan of football/soccer and I’ve always thought we need more of this sport in romance books and it did not disappoint. Ethan is the absolute cinnamon roll/golden retriever boyfriend. He’s got this southern man, boyish and playful charm and Billie is a bit grumpy so the play on grumpy girlfriend and sunshine boyfriend was something that I really liked about them so when Ethan gets moved to England to play and she works for the team, her first instinct is to brush him off but I like that he showed her through actions and not just words how he was there for her and he liked her. We love a man that communicates! The book also touches on harder topics but overall it is sweet, a bit emotional but also fun, and steamy and has a soulmates-like trope which I thought was different and interesting. I was a little confused at first (maybe it’s just me cause I’m oblivious to a lot of things) but you just have to go with it and it’ll make sense but overall the book is a great debut novel and the kismet, people that don’t make sense on paper but are just meant to be because the universe knew they needed each other because they’re so meant to be was such a nice touch to a sport romance that I think was unique as well.

The side characters were also great in the book, they added a lot of fun moments, Tessa, Ethan’s grandmother, his teammates which I also liked that you get to see a bit of their dynamics and personalities. They were all great characters that added to the story. I loved the found family aspect that added to Billie and Ethan’s story and how they become each others support system and their own together and the epilogue was so sweet! I think you’re a fan of Chloe Liese or Ted Lasso, I think you will enjoy this book! & lastly thank you to Kelsey Painter for an ARC of this book.

The first 75% was not terrible. There is a random World War II plot line that goes on throughout the book but it’s so poorly written that you kind of forget about it until the end. The last quarter of the book is wildly dramatic for no reason at all. Death, physical assault, reincarnation(?), and a lot of misogyny. On top of that, it’s one of those romances where they can’t live without each other after knowing one another for 5 mins. Wish I DNFed this. Would not recommend.

Rounded up to 2.5 stars.

A cute romance that fans of Ted Lasso will like, however there’s an aspect that didn’t really seem believable to me. I enjoyed the characters but this plot device kind of made it meh at the end.

This was a fantastic debut novel! It had a little bit of everything - sports romance, grumpy/sunshine, a girl afraid of love, a guy who fell HARD, a little magical element. This was written so well. While I was reading I kept thinking maybe I had it figured out, but I didn’t! By the end I wasn’t totally surprised, but it was more like it all made sense in such a good way!

Ethan moves to London for play football, and when he meets Billie they are both instantly drawn to each other. But Billie fights it for as long as she can (not too long of course she can’t resist Ethan’s southern charm). They were such a good opposites attract couple. Ethan was so open, and willing, and kind. And Billie was so closed off and scared of a lot of things. That’s not to say they didn’t share some of those traits, because they did. But their strengths and weaknesses balanced each other.

And really they were both so so SOFT. They really completed each other. Billie changed so much once she met Ethan. She was able to be herself, with her reservations and her fears. He accepted her for everything she was, and she was able to do the same for him.

There were also good side stories! Ethan’s childhood, him having to move away from home and leave his grandmother behind, Billie’s fears of failing, her struggles at work (which were my least favorite part just because I hated seeing Billie treated the way she was). And Billie and Tessa’s friendship - which seemed a little unconventional but they were such good friends. Ethan bonding with his teammates even though he was the new guy. It was such a well rounded story!

The little magical, mysterious element reminded me that it was a romance book, and I loved that. Sometimes a romance book just seems like you’re just reading about the lives of people, and this was like that too, but that feeling that Billie and Ethan had that made them feel like they knew each other just made it feel a little different and it was so good

Thank you SO MUCH to Kelsey Painter for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!!

✨ the good ✨

Well. This book. What an absolute friggin delight it was. A contemporary romance with a little bit of magic woven through, this was one of those books that was an unexpected surprise, but in the best of ways.

Ethan, a football (soccer) player from America, has moved over to the UK to play for Stanmore, a London based club. When he meets Billie, a legal assistant for the club, for the first time, he can’t help but feel as if he’s known her all his life. And it’s the exact same way for Billie, even if she spends a good chunk of the book fighting against Ethan and her feelings for him.

Let me just say right now that I think Ethan may be the perfect hero. Seriously. Chivalrous, respectful and just an all round king, I was swooning right from the get go. And it’s also safe to say that the term ‘gentleman in the streets, a freak in the sheets’ definitely applies to him. I mean yeah, that upped his hot factor by, like, a million.

Billie, in all her feistiness, was a pretty vulnerable heroine, and even though it took me some time to warm up to her, I found her to be a wonderful character. Funny and sarcastic in equal measure, she had her walls up so high, I’m pretty sure Bear Grylls wouldn’t even be able to scale them. And the whole vision element that was woven throughout the book was incredible, it was so unexpected yet it added a whole other layer to Ethan and Billie’s story.

Absolutely loved this story and cannot wait to read more from this author. I’m hoping it’s Jordan’s story next, as I really liked his character (he’s a growly Scotsman, say no more).

✨ the bad ✨

Tony. Enough said.

✨overall thoughts: a wonderful love story about soulmates and that feeling you have when you know you’ve found your one

This was SO good!! So well written. The descriptions of the characters’ thoughts and feelings and the dialogue were just *chefs kiss*. The romance was excellently paced, I didn’t feel like it was dragging along or moving too fast. The characters were funny and relatable and I could picture everything in my head like a movie or TV show. Highly, highly recommend if you like romance, soccer, and some spice! 🔥

Read a sports romance and loved it? Who is she??

But no, really, this was everything I didn’t know I needed and more. This was really well written and the story had me smiling so much it hurt. I don’t even like sports and it had me captivated! The story was so sweet and it’s become a fast favorite. I’m so excited for the next book!

take me back!!

This is an amazing book about two people that meet at a football club. Both have a connection that they don’t want to tell each other. The spicy scenes are great. I love being able to see a little bit of Charlotte, NC in it as it reminds me of a town that has become home. Great read, highly recommend.

I LOVE soccer with all my life so I really wanted to read a book where the man is a soccer player (better in the premier league) so in that part I liked it. But then I felt like it was getting kinda bored, and the end was so predictable, quite odd if I had to say

What a book!

First of all, thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for this honest review.

This was my first sports romance. I kind of hate sports (sorry not sorry), so I have tried to avoid them, but this was so much more than that. There was a historical element that I wasn't expecting and, along with it, a bit of magical realism, but I don't want to say too much about that because spoilers!

I loved Billie and Ethan. I especially loved Ethan, which I wasn't expecting. He was such a sweetheart, and I really appreciated his adherence to both his Southern charm and feminist ideals instilled by his grandmother. Billie was a bit of a grump (I love a good female grump!), and I think we can all relate to her fear of commitment on at least some level.

They were so good together, and I also found myself loving the game scenes, too. They were described so well!

All in all, I really loved this book. Definitely grab a copy once it's out!

Review:

Wow I was so pleasantly surprised by this book. At first I went in thinking this would be a sweet and cute sports romance but it was so much more. I loved the soulmates storyline. How there is someone destined to be with you and you find each other in this life or the next. It was something I hadn’t seen before on a sport romance and It truly surprised me in a good way. The romance was so well done, the pace of it was just perfect and so realistic. The writing also helped me imagine the story so well and it was like I was seeing a movie on my mind.

The characters were amazing and I could relate to some of them so well. I loved Ethan so much, he was so understanding, patient, kind and honestly kind of perfect. He was so mature, he knew what he wanted and went for it. He knew how to respect boundaries and how to make his own clear. He was loyal, knew how to communicate and never said anything he didn’t really feel. Honestly he is one of the best book boyfriends ever. Billie was also a great character and her growth can be seen as the story goes on. Seeing her grow as a person and become someone who truly loves herself was one of the best parts of this book. I also related to her on a personal level and that made me slowly care for her more and more. Also the side characters complimented the story so well and made it that much more interesting.

I highly recommend this book if you like sports romance, soulmates and spice. I simply cannot wait to see what else the author writes because this book was an amazing debut novel.

This is a light rom com that has a slew of tropes: friends to lovers, fated mates, love at first sight, sport setting, forced proximity, and grumpy x sunshine. There's also an interesting and unique historical aspect to it that I've never really read before, and I'm still trying to decide how I feel about it. It contributed to the whole fated mates, love at first sight deal of the book so maybe you'll love it.

This is a standard edition of black cat x golden retriever dynamic and I loved the way Painter depicted this relationship. Billie was funny and quirky and just fun to read. Ethan was a little *too* perfect in my opinion... I think he needed something to bring him down a peg and a wee bit more relatable (make him socially awkward or messy or a hoarder, or maybe he's got a horrible habit of only wearing mismatched socks, idk, just give him something to make him not seem like a product of the book boyfriend formula). But reading the development and growth of him and Billie together was a delight.

There is a lot of exposition in this book. I felt a little bogged down by it at times and wish there was more of a focus on the dialogue between Billie and Ethan. There's also a lot of use of the word "misogyny" and I don't know if that was really necessary. I think it's tricky to balance thematic elements without making the text seem like buzz-word preaching, so it wasn't a complete turn off for me, but felt a little forced.

Overall this is a good book, and I think a pretty strong debut novel. Hopefully we get to see more of Kelsey Painter's work in the not so distant future!

I’m a big lover of sports romance and has recently been talking to my husband about how I had never read a soccer romance. Then, I had the pleasure of reading We’ll Meet Again! This one is way more than just a sports romance, it’s a deep romance with a ton of plot and heart.

What I loved:

▫️Ethan. Everything Ethan. He’s quite literally one of the sweetest characters I’ve had the pleasure of reading!
▫️NC representation! I loved the addition of Charlotte and Carolina Beach, NC (especially since I used to live near there!)
▫️The plot! There are a few side plots here but I feel like Kelsey did such an amazing job weaving them all together and creating such a unique story!
▫️I may be biased here because I’ve played soccer my whole life, but I loved the integration of the soccer games, FA cup and team structure.
▫️In an effort not to spoil anything, I’ll end on saying that this is one of those books that I was so excited to read and literally couldn’t put it down. When I finished it, I had the most massive smile on my face and haven’t stopped thinking about it for days!

If you like sports romance, or just romance in general honestly, give this one a try!

Any Ted Lasso fans also readers?? I have the perfect rec for you!

Ethan had been working his whole life toward a career in fútbol (soccer). When he was called to the premier league, he left his home in NC and moved to England. But he’s joining the team mid season, and the team isn’t doing the best. Not only that, some of his teammates aren’t his biggest fan. But when he meets the the fútbol clubs legal assistant, Billie, he feels an instant connection to her. For some reason she feels like home. They’re complete opposites, he’s sunshine and she’s grumpy, but can he convince her he’s serious about it her? Can he convince her to give me a chance?

This was my first fútbol romance, and I really enjoyed it! This book is for the Ted Lasso fans who ship Ted and Rebecca!

I truly loved Ethan! His golden retriever sunshiny personality and southern charm drew me in. I loved how he and Billie complimented each other so well, even with such drastically different personalities!
The soulmate aspect was really interesting also! The thought that some people are just meant to find each other is so swoony.

If you're looking for a sweet and spicy take on a sports romance with a unique twist that adds just a bit of magic, this is the book you've been waiting for!

The characters are Ethan and Billie. They have a bit of a reverse grumpy sunshine vibe. Ethan is a golden retriever cinnamon roll soccer player from America who has just been signed to a club in London where he meets Billie, who works for the club. Billie is tough and guarded, afraid of abandonment and failure, and has sworn off dating players until Ethan's sunshine penetrates her heart. When the two meet, they both have the feeling that they have met before.

The story had me teary-eyed a few times, first because of the lost soulmates aspect between Ethan and Billie, then because of Ethan's tragic backstory paired with the way he absolutely didn't let it
stop him from being a complete sweetheart. All in all it's wonderfully told, with tons of heart and a very satisfying character arc for Billie in particular.

Thank you Kelsey for this advanced copy!

We'll meet again is a beautifully written sports romance book. It follows the story of two people Ethan, who is a professional football player and Billie, who is a legal assistant in a football club. Despite their differences—Ethan is an American and Billie is a Londoner—they find themselves drawn to each other when they meet at the football club.

The story follows them as they navigate their growing relationship. It's a we're meant to be together kinda romance. The plot is filled with plenty of sweet moments and has a few twists and turns including a past.

This was FABULOUS! I didn’t want to story to end! Such a unique twist on the usual romance story.

First of all, A SOCCER ROMANCE!! Hello more please! There are not enough soccer books out there so I was very excited to read this one based off that. Billie and Ethan were such lovely characters to read about. It’s hard to review this without giving anything away, but I just loved how these two characters molded together. I loved Ethan’s southern charm and it was so fun reading Billies British inflections! I got good Ted Lasso vibes from it all 😂

But really. The banter was great! The relationship dynamics (Billie and her sister, Ethan and his Grandma) were fabulous! It was funny, hot, sad, and just so so good!!!

I’m so excited to read more from Kelsey! This really was a knockout first release and I am so happy I read it!

This is the amazing, beautiful debut novel by Kelsey Painter and I was so glad to be provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The story follows Ethan and Billie after Ethan makes a move to London to play football for the club Billie is working at as a legal assistant. This is not your standard contemporary romance, and I absolutely loved the intertwine with a story from yesteryear.

What I loved:
• Ethan is a good guy who knows how to treat a woman in the bedroom, insert some spicy levels here haha. The only thing I want to add is I was impatient and would have liked to see this earlier as this happens around 50% in.
• The intertwine between old and modern day
• An amazing book from a debut author.

Can’t wait to see what you bring out next Kelsey 😊

This was so freaking CUTE. I read it in one sitting, which I rarely get to do, and I just loved it.

I’m reading this immediately after finishing my first watch-through of Ted Lasso, and it definitely hits that same spot. And I’m a huge sucker for soulmates and I love how this was worked in! Think Timeless by Taylor Swift meets Ted Lasso.

This was the perfect book for my sports romance/soccer romance mood! As a historical fiction lover I thought it was really neat to incorporate WWII history, though I don't think that concept was entirely realized in the novel. I would have liked a bit more of the connection between couples, perhaps more time with the couple in 1944 or more of an explanation of their connection.

Other than those slight instances of wanting more, I thoroughly enjoyed the main couple and am excited to see what Stanmore FC has to offer in the next book!
