Flan Flood finally has her life in order. Her new, normal friends from school get along with her celebrity friends and she couldn't be happier being Just Flan. But right when life is settling down, Flan's friends all fall for the same hot quarterback Adam whose smile is as winning as his throwing arm. And when Flan's BFF, teen-starlet Sarah-Beth Benny, decides to throw a glam costume party, Flan's friends each vow to kiss their football prince by midnight at the big bash. Suddenly, Flan finds herself in the middle of an all-out battle for Adam's attention. Can Flan convince Meredith and Judith that girlfriends are way more important than any guy, or will Flan find herself dangerously stuck in the middle?
The book was kind of predictable. The girl has a boyfriend, but then she sees the jock. Next thing you know she is swooning over the jock and becomes confused. Flann is confused because she likes both guys. Then as a happy ever after she and the jock get together. I mean some of it is different, like her friends are the ones that point out the guy. I think that it could have used more plot twists.
Flann is an ordinary girl with some extraordinary friends and some not so extra-ordinary. She went to a private school before she went to the public school and met her new friends. She had a boyfriend named Bennett who was ever so cute. He was nice and a total nerd. Flann met two really nice girls and became friends with them. The only downside was that the new friends have a crush on the same guy. His name was Adam and he was a football player. Her new friends went through this already where they liked the same boy and they almost lost their friendship over it. Flann did not want to lose her friends to a football player that probably had no interest in them, so she went to Sara-Beth Benny’s house to try and figure out what to do about it. Sara-Beth Benny came up with the idea of the “no Adam rule.” She brought this rule up to her friends and they agreed to it. The next day Flann was sitting at the lunch table alone because her friends and boyfriend were busy. The school she goes to was+ really into football and they had an explosion of cheering in the lunch room. She tried to stay to herself and read her book that she had a test on in the next hour. Although, the football players sat right behind her and made a lot of noise. Sooner than later Adam noticed her and decided to sit by her. Flann tried to brush him off, but could not do it. He immediately noticed that she got a haircut. Something her boyfriend did not notice right away. Flann figured out why her friend were absolutely in love with this boy. However, he was nothing like what her friends described him like. Which causes problems for Flann. Between the time she met him and the time they are lab partners everything will change.
I recommend this book for females between the ages of 13 and 18. I recommend this book if they like predictable books.
When two friends like a guy, it doesn't end very well most of the time. Usually they end up assuming the guy likes them when in reality, he hardly knows them. They almost always try to make a move on him just to realize he doesn't like them at all. "The Sweetest Thing" is just like this. Two girls named Judith and Meredith like the same guy, and since this same incident happened years ago, they both promise to not let another boy get in between them. As always, they seem to forget about their promise. As their feelings for Adam increase, they both try to make a move on him.
Judith and Meredith are Flan’s new best friends. Since they start liking Adam, she is scared of letting him ruin Meredith and Judith’s friendship. While they fawn over Adam She can't see what they see in him. To her he is just a dumb football player who doesn’t care about anyone. However, when he and Flan talk to each other she realizes how easy it is to fall for him. Even though she starts to like Adam, she feels guilty about it because she has a boyfriend. Plus her friends both like him.
The setting takes place in New York City, Flan's freshman year.
The theme is don't let anyone get in the way of friendships, especially guys. In the end, It is best friends who will stick around. Throughout this book, Judith and Meredith have been struggling with not letting a guy get in the way of their friendship.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the first book. Although it's not too hard to read without getting confused, it may be helpful to read the first book.
I gave this book a 3 out of 5 star rating because it was very predictable. Many of the characters were annoying. I felt like this book took forever to get to the point. I will not be finishing the rest of the series.
Plot Flan thought she had it all figured out. She got accepted into a great college. She met two amazing people who became her best friends. But then the "No Adam" rule happened and that’s when the drama started. Flan made this rule for Judith and Meredith because they told her they both liked Adam. Flan only made it up because she thought it would help her two friends get over him and find a different guy. She made it to keep their friendship as normal as possible. Flan just wanted the drama to end. She soon noticed it only made things worse when she started to get feelings for Adam as well. Flan also came to realize that Adam liked her more than in a friendly way. Flan went through many struggles throughout the book, but she always found a way to work them out.
Characterization
Flan: She attended a college in New York. That was where she met Judith and Meredith. She dealt with many struggles throughout the book. She didn't want to hurt anyone but soon noticed either way someone is going to get hurt. She had a boyfriend who she thought she liked, but when she spent time with Adam she started to have feelings for Adam as well.
Adam: He was the quarterback to the football team and also attended the same college as Flan. Everybody liked him and he was really popular. He didn't like when people call him a jock, he's more than that. He felt like people thought less of him than they should. This was the guy Judith and Meredith were in "love" with. He eventually started to get feelings for Flan.
Judith and Meredith: These two girls said they're best friends but all they did was try to make each other look bad. They both liked the same guy, Adam. Soon their friendship turned into a competitive one. They both got insanely jealous of Flan when they noticed her always by Adam.
Setting This book took place in a college in New York. This was important to know because the college is where all the drama and everything happened. It's where Flan became best friends with Judith and Meredith. It’s also where she met Adam and started to fall for him right away.
Recommendation
I would recommend this to any middle or high school girl. I recommend this to girls because this is more of a girly book; I don't think a boy would enjoy this book that much. It has a lot of drama.
Flan is a teenage New York socialite with absentee parents, an eccentric movie starlet neighbor, a cute boyfriend who loves comics, and two best friends she recently made in her new public school. When her two best friends start crushing on the same guy, Adam, Flan makes them promise the drama won't ruin their friendship. But when Flan starts to crush on Adam, too, she realizes her friendship and relationship are both in jeopardy.
The scenario posed in The Sweetest Thing is something every single girl has gone through. As a result, Flan's dilemma is relatable, but also as a result, it is easy for readers to see from the outside just how silly the girls in the novel are being. What I couldn't get past is why Flan would even crush on Adam when she has a perfectly loving boyfriend who never does a single thing wrong. Even Flan spends a good portion of the novel wondering this. Besides the fact that Adam, like Flan, likes old movies, there really isn't any chemistry between them.
I would have much rather read an entire novel about Sara-Beth Benny, a former child star who is so cooky and loveable and may or may not have dozens of voices speaking in her head and a tendency to confuse her real life with the life of the character she played on television. She made the novel fun whenever she was brought into the chapters and she was the only reason I was able to finish the book.
Flan has an absentee mother and lives in SoHo, going to a private school with two pretty good friends, Judith and Meredith. She has a boyfriend that she supposedly adores, but she gets distracted by her lab partner. Her two best friends also consequently have a crush on the same boy, Adam. She kisses him, lives with the guilt of that while lying to her friends and dealing with the dysfunction of her sister, who seems to be going crazy. At this time, the only reliable friend she has is her famous next door neighbor, Sara-Beth.
I'll be honest. I picked this book up at the dollar store and I'm not super surprised it was there. Flan is a typical, fickle kind of girl that doesn't really seem that appealing. I'm glad she keeps her head on straight and doesn't make bad decisions in the very end, but I think the book mostly serves as a fantasy for those girls who will read it. I know a lot of girls face the kind of situations she does, but not usually in the glamorous circumstances that she's in.
Flan Flood is back with another adorable novel about her and her crazy friends. (Some more literally crazy then others.)
Two of her closest friends fall for the same guy. And Flan has to be his lab partner. And even though she has an amazing boyfriend who really cares about her, is Flan really the one with feelings for the freshman varsity football quarterback?
I absolutely adore Flan. She has a life that so many teens envy, but she still goes through real issues. She is a character that is so easy to relate to and can seem so real, minus the fact that she's filthy rich.
Take this book to the beach, sit back, and relax, because you're in for a fun ride!
This book was the next book for the Inside Girl series. It is about Flan Flood changing. She finally gets the boy she wants and that's not all she wants. She meets a boy in her biology class called Adam and she has a little crush on him. Worse of all, he becomes her new lab partner. They talk regularly and Adam seems to have a little crush on her too. The whole school has football fever because it was football season. Her best friends , Judith and Meredith, are in love with him as well. Judith and Meredith fight over him while Flan secretly hides her feelings from them. After the first game there was a after that almost everyone attended and when she left Adam walked her out and hails a taxi for her. when she was in the taxi he kissed her and that's when everything went downhill.
This was a great book. From sensetive, smart Faln, to cool, cooky Sara Beth Benny. This is a great book for all people who like high school romance and a little bit of a twist at the endings.
