I was in love with my brother’s best friend, and it almost destroyed me… Loving Zander was all I had known, but his heart belonged to someone else. I put an ocean between us to find myself and heal my broken heart. I never could have guessed that along the way I’d find my future—my light in the dark. So why is it that every time I look forward the past is still there? Golden eyes beneath the willow tree and the scent of caramel cookies. When tragedy strikes, and Zander returns, his sights are set on me. As my past and present collide, will I be strong enough to walk away? Are whispered vows and second chance promises enough? With a world music tour riding on my shoulders, I need to lay the past to rest, but Zander isn’t done fighting to mend my broken and flawed heart. And I’m not sure I want to fight him back.
I have many thoughts. Firstly, the book started out so well I liked the concept. I liked the background. I liked the idea of the contract, but that’s where it ended. Zander was just way too much and gave me whiplash from his back and forth emotions. there was too many events squished into such a short book. This man did not grovel once he fucked up big time twice I wouldn’t have even taken him back the first time let alone the second, I don’t think they should’ve ended up together, but whatever
First I want to start by saying I only finished this book to get closer to my yearly challenge goal. I didn’t like anything about this story.
The brother turning on a sister he was supposedly so close with. The brother and friend blaming a 13 year old for things out of her control then treating her like shit for years. Then all of a sudden the best friend wakes up and is like I love her? Fat chance. Let’s not forget how him and brother did absolutely no groveling.
I cannot stand a weak willed FMC and that’s exactly what she was. This entire time. Not once did she grow strong on her own. There was always a man there to lift her up. Her entire personality is based on a man supporting her. And the lack of respect she has for herself to let the MMC walk all over her and still love him. What a waste. Will probably never read another story by this author.

I had so much hope for this book, seeing all the reviews. But, damn, I was so disappointed! The h was a complete doormat, and I hated it. I hate weak women who don't have any determination. And the H was such a selfish inconsiderate asshole, and everyone letting him be one. F*ck that!
Really? I deserve a medal to have read this one. It’s like a bad hp but longer and less mature, which is really something. And shallow. And inconsistent. Hero is bff with heroines brother. He’s some years older. She has a crush on him. At 16 he’s told he has to marry her when she’s 20 something, or else he will lose his father’s company. He gets angry with her who’s at the time like 13 and he and her brother bully her through high school and beyond, with the help of his bitch gf. She eventually leaves, and becomes a musical agent. She sells her part of the company to her brother nullifying the contract and getting rid of both rather and the hero. The hero in the meantime is cuckolded by his fiancée and realizes out of the blue that he loves the heroine that he couldn’t even stand until that moment, and this was what makes the book a bad thing first. He never thought about her for basically 10 years, then suddenly he loves her and wants her and pursues her and can’t accept a no as an answer. Jesus. This is psychotic! The heroine thank god hasn’t been a virgin and had a fuck buddy bff and enjoyed sex a lot with him. She grew up, became rich and famous on her own but sadly she falls again for him. After some chapters of boring cheesiness between her and the hero I was going to give up when … another schizophrenic twist. The hero receives some emails from his ex who shows how both the hero and her brother would be trying to destroy his company. So he dumps the heroine and sends his lawyers after her, damaging her job and making her lose a lot of popularity. Wtf? Honest? Nobody in their own right would accept such a ton of bs without at least making it check by at least a dozen experts! Of course it was a set up but it takes six months for him to prove that he was wrong. And the fact remains that he needed proofs and he didn’t believe the heroine and her brother. Who, btw, stayed his friend for years so what need was there for him to get revenge on him? They were in the bullying thing together so it doesn’t make sense. And the heroine? She was also pregnant and when the hero reaches her she has had the baby. And the hero of course tries to threaten her and blackmail her into staying with him even if she only wants to co parent. I hated this book, it was a mess, and there’s no real connection with real life and how people reason. First, no way a 16 yo would blame a girl of 13 for their grandfather’s evil plans. Second, the way he sprouted love for the heroine was something even a borderline with issues wouldn’t do. Third, the whole misunderstanding bar setup by his ex was toooo stupid. Not even a child would believe it as fast as he did. In my opinion it is not worth reading. It was so bad that I couldn’t even feel any angst for the characters even if the situation was indeed tragic. But enough was enough. And the limits were long crossed …
First off I want to thank @authorashtonbrooks & @thenextsteppr for my free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book was beyond my expectations ! I did not imagine such a detailed, angsty, emotional, steamy, beautiful, enraging and ugly love story. It wasn't just that though, the story was amazing getting to grow up with Amelia, Zander and York from their teen years to adulthood. It was just perfect to make you attached to them.
This book literally rocked my world. Once I started it I was immediately drawn to Amelia, I just love her, wanted the best for her, so at times to see her hurting really made me furious at the others. She is so relatable, compassionate, loveable, sweet, strong and fiercely determined. Honestly, the best female character I have read in a while. All the secondary characters are equally great in all their qualities and flaws.
Ashton's writing is flawless, engaging and completely intoxicating, everything was so well portrayed, described. This book is a rollercoaster ride, I thought I knew where she was bringing the story but it went the complete opposite. I cannot wait for the next books in this series. Definitely one you won't want to miss.
If you're a fan of emotional roller-coasters, best friends brother, enemies to lovers romance do not hesitate you will fall in love with this one.
I enjoyed this book extremely. This wasn’t what I thought it was gonna be when I first heard about the series, it felt different in a good way. I haven’t read or heard of a book like this before and I am here for it! This is one read you don’t want to miss. Flawed Heart is a five star read, if not more!
Flawed Heart was angsty, steamy, and so emotional you’ll need to make sure you have tissues ready! Zander and Amelia have been dealt a difficult hand all their life. They are definitely taken on an emotional rollercoaster through their entire life to seek their happiness. I cried, I laughed, i swooned. Every emotion that could possibly be felt, I felt with this book. Amelia Allister is one of the best characters I have ever read. Her strength, her determination, her compassion. She is a beautiful character inside and out and just has so many amazing qualities. Zander Knight has his flaws but he is oh so steamy beyond compare! When he loves, he loves with all his heart. This brother’s best friend, friends to enemies to lovers romance is one you will want to be talking about!
I love that I never know what to expect from Ashton Brooks. When I think it goes one way, I am comp wrong. She delivers such amazing, entertaining, and impactful stories! I can’t wait for more in this series. This is definitely a book I recommend!!
Book #1 in this new series, The Bedroom Tour is definitely one to remember! Amelia and Zander’s love story is a brother’s best friend, childhood friends to enemies to lovers that will take your emotions for a ride. I enjoyed their journey immensely, I loved that Amelia was a strong character that definitely held her ground. Ashton Brooks definitely knows how to give the angst, steam and drama. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
This is the first book in Ashton's new series The Bedroom Tour and it's where we meet Amelia and Zander.
Zander, Amelia and Amelia's brother York, grew up together and they were all tight. Amelia had a major crush on Zander which I thought was kinda reciprocated but when Z finds out about a contract for them to be married, all he11 breaks loose and he turns against her. Pure nastiness follows and what maddened me most - her brother sided with Zander and she's left totally alone! Like, wth??
Over the years she still sends messages, best wishes, congrats, happy birthday etc and is still ignored, but when Z takes it one step further, she's done! She can't take anymore so she ups and moves to a different country, she soon finds herself - and I love her!
She has true friends, a new family, she's happy, all's going great for her and then Z decides she's what's been missing from his miserable life and I want to slap him so hard!... He doesn't deserve her, end off.
I'm saying no more about the storyline, but I will say I was glued to my screen, I couldn't put it down, I HAD to know what happened next. It's full of angst and some truly emotional scenes so have a few tissues near by! As well as some hot and steamy scenes too 🥵
I really adored Amelia, I loved when she moved away and moved on, but I'm going to be frank - she peeved me off at the end, she needs to be stronger and Zander needs to leave her be, she deserves more.
I think this is the first time I've not wanted the main h&H to end up together. Maybe that'll change when I have a re-read but at the minute, yeah, 🤷🏻♀️
I adore the side characters, seriously, they're all so intriguing and I can't wait for their stories.
An excellent emotional rollercoaster of a read that I thoroughly recommend!
*I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review. 4.5
What an idiot! I love a good book under the brother’s best friend/childhood friends/ enemies to lovers trope. Ashton Brooks delivered it with Flawed Heart. Zander and Amelia’s love story is angsty, so intense, entertaining and …omg this book was good. But my God! Zander is an idiot. Amelia’s brother is also an idiot. But I love a little bit of grovelling and oh my! was it entertaining to watch them grovel. This is a bit of a spoiler but in the middle of the book, there’s this part about the silver platter…oooohhh this scene was so satisfying! Flawed Heart is the time of book you won’t mind rereading. It definitely felt like a roller coaster throughout the story but that’s just what made this book so so good. Amelia is seriously the MVP in this book. I absolutely adored her found family so much! I cannot wait to read more from this series.
Note: I may have binge read a few more books by Ashton after reading this one.
This is my first book by Asthton. Wow! Just wow. This book ruined sleep for me, once I started I couldn’t stop. I devoured it in a day! My heart was broken and then put together again. The angst is off the charts. This will be one of those books I will read again and again, definitely one of my highlights for this year. I can’t wait for The next book in this series.
I am a sucker for emotional reads although it pains me a lot to go through those emotions with the characters, somewhere it fulfills my heart in the end when they get there happily ever after. Second-chance romances are the hardest to read in terms of emotional level, they break you at some point and this one just did that. I loved and admire how Amelia worked in herself in spite of everything thrown at her face. She’s a real fighter and is so kind-hearted always trying to think good about everyone in every circumstance. What Zander and her brother York did to her, how they behaved was not at all justified and I’ll hate them for that. It’s not all time scenario that the characters affect me that much but these were different. I am glad I got to read this story and the writing keeps me hooked the entire time. The angst is very high and will leave you wanting more. The side characters were super amazing and supportive. Twist and turns and betrayal will keep you on the edge and will make you question your own sanity too.
i received this amazing book from the author herself, Ashton Brooks!!🫶🏼
tropes: •brothers best friend •small age gap (3 years) •forced proximity
this book was an absolute roller coaster. I loved Amelia with my whole heart. She went from this shy little girl to this hot, badass, confident boss woman. I honestly have a love/hate relationship with Zander, I think that’s part of the reason why I gave this a 4 star. I definitely liked him in the beginning when he was a kid and when he and Amelia reconnected but I couldn’t really forgive him at the end. but I’ll admit, he’s a freaking hottie!! omg and the spice in this book? SO GOOD!! The writing in this book was amazing and the story kept me hooked the entire time!!
this was my first book by this author and it definitely won’t be the last!!
thank you so much Ashton for sending me your book early!!
one of my fav quotes: “I’ll chase you this time, Amelia. And when I catch you, the game’s over. You’re mine.”🤭🤭
“I’ll chase you this time, Amelia. And when I catch you, the game’s over. You’re mine.”
Amelia is strong, determined and very independent, not wanting or needing to rely on anyone for help. Losing both parents at a young age is hard enough but to have her brother and his best friend ruin your life as well is 10 times harder. When she was finally old enough she took matters into her own hands for her life to finally be happy. Zander, Zander, Zander ugh did he make me mad at times. I couldn’t believe the way he and her brother York treated her when she was young over something she had no control over. She loved him with all her heart no matter how much he hurt her. Their relationship was really an emotional rollercoaster. Although Zander and Amelia had been through so much in their past and present they pushed for each other and their family not giving up. Zander wasn’t going down without a fight to have his happily ever after with Amelia. This story is a brother’s best friend and friends to enemies to lovers! Side note: I loveddd Becks and Spyder!
5* Wow where to start. This story has love, betrayal, secrets and true determination. Amelia and York Allister are best friends with Zander Knight until learning what their Grandfather's have decided. Completely tied into his grandfathers demands Zander thinks he's found a way around it without breaking the terms but needs to push Amelia away. Amelia wasn't prepared for the heartache and loss from her relationship with her brother and Zander. When Tabbi her college friend mentions studying abroad Amelia discovers herself again. Great story and I can't wait to read more about the other characters that pull you in.
This book takes you on a rollercoaster ride, One that never seems to end. Two boys who are lifelong friends and little sister who manages to be a fireball in the end. The enemies to lovers vibe this book sends off is simply amazing. From the get go my heartstrings were pulled and tugged and ripped from my body.
A contract of marriage, a broken heart, and years of pain and neglect. One must be strong to get through all that and this girl is the best example of rising from the ashes. Love, loss, and betrayal you will get it all in this book.
Can you handle it?
Even if you’ve never read anything by Ashton before, please pick this up. You won’t be disappointed. Being a huge fan I’m honored to have been given a copy to read.
This book had my emotions all over the place. Growing up Amelia was a tag a long with her brother and his best friend, Zander. She had always had a crush on him but all it took was a pact that was made by their grandfathers that sent everything into a tail spin. Zander pushed Amelia/Mia away breaking her heart. When a friend had mentioned about studying abroad Amelia knew that this was what was best for her to help mend her broken heart…but now Zander’s back.
This is a first-time author for me and from here on out I will definitely be following her work.
Another new to me author and more books for my TBR list. This was a very well written super angsty and emotional love story. Amelia is a wonderful heroine and her strength is amazing. Zander leaves me with mixed feelings. I loved the story but he is definitely not a book boyfriend for me, he would stay in the outhouse. I hope the dreamy duo from Rise Against get books.
A-freaking-amazing!!! I don't like roller coasters but this was one roller coaster ride I'm glad I took. The story of Zander and Amelia hooked my in and wouldn't let go. My heart felt such pain for Amelia that I was afraid I wouldn't be able to handle the ending. I'm not going to give anything away as to whether it's a HEA or not. Just read the book. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you @authorashtonbrooks for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. ♥️
"I'll chase you this time, Amelia. And when I catch you, the games over. You're mine."
Holy emotional whiplash! Amelia and Zander's story is a rollercoaster of emotions. The authors writing style was something I personally enjoy - taking you from the very beginning with a backstory to set up their relationship foundation.
The author made me root for and enjoy every character we got introduced to. I will honestly say that there were times I was not Team Zander and half of me almost wishes their relationship outcome would've been different. I would've loved to see Amelia give him more hell for everything that transpired. I would've loved to see Becks POV even or get an inside look into his and Amelia's relationship status by the end. The hurt and the emotions that the FMC goes through felt like I was experiencing everything right there alongside her.
Overall, this was a different type of read than my usual. I'm glad I gave it a chance though!
‼️ This releases TOMORROW SEPT 12! Make sure to add it to your tbr if you like: *Brothers best friend *Forced proximity *FMC growth
5 PHENOMENAL STARS!! What a way to start a new series. Phenomenal is the only word to describe what I just read. Amelia and Zander hit all my emotion buttons and put their names on my heart. Their story was so emotional and beautifully written, I could not put this book down. I can't wait to see the other characters get stories, I am already invested.
This booked sucked me in, in the beginning but halfway through it became hard to read. The MMC was one of the worst characters I’ve read in a long time. He accepted no accountability for his actions just made excuses for being a terrible person. Gaslighted and manipulated the FMC to get what he wanted from her. Destroyed her life not once but twice! A pregnancy happens in the last 20% of the book and the MMC uses that as a manipulation tack as well to get the FMC back. The FMC had so much potential to make things work in her favor but her “childhood crush/love” prevented her from being the strong independent woman she should have been. I should have DNFed this book but got to the point of hate reading it so I could figure out how much worse it could get.

This is the 1st in a new series, and my word, what a beginning this story is! Amelia has always had a crush on her brother York’s best friend Zander, and they all grew up together. When Zander finds out about a pact their grandfathers had made, he pushes Mia away, breaking her heart. When Mia has had enough of her brother and Zander making her life miserable, she leaves, to regroup and have a fresh start, and is finally moving on with her life and has some great friends. When Zander realises what he is missing from his life, he has his sights firmly set on Mia. Is it too late to move on from enemies / lovers? This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with friendships, family, angst, drama, tragedy, and love, which leads to a steamy and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Ashton Brooks is an amazing author and this is my favorite book from her. However, I am mad…still mad at one of the characters, and mad at Ashton for taking me on this emotional rollercoaster…hahaha. Ashton brings us characters they will tear at your heart, bring you joy and have you wondering…what in the hell!
This story takes us from childhood to adulthood with Zander, Amelia and York. This story is maddening, beautiful, ugly, angsty, emotional and a fanfreakintastic read.
I’m looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
I really liked this authors previous books but this one was not it. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a male lead more than Zander. In my eyes he didn’t redeem himself enough. He was truly cruel in their teen years cutting Amelia off and making her life miserable. She had already lost her parents and he turned her brother against her also. To forgive him once was bad enough but twice. Absolutely not. He ruined her both times and she still took him back. Not only that Zander blackmailed Amelia into taking him back the second time. He knew how painful it was for her and how much he hurt her but he forced her hand, and hadn’t really done much to make up for his actions. Their romance aside. I liked the theme of the plot with the record label and the chosen family in Amelia’s friends. The secondary characters were all brilliant.

“I wasn’t her first, but I damn sure will be her last.” This childhood friends to enemies to lovers story is one for the books. We follow Zander and Amelia from their childhood to adulthood, experiencing life with them every step of the road. It isn’t easy but Ashton Brooks makes you feel all the emotions these two are given. Definitely a 4 star read! Thank you to Ashton Brooks for my Advanced Reader Copy of Flawed Heart in exchange for my honest review.
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review
This is my first book by Ashton Brooks and I have a lot of mixed feelings about the love story between Amelia & Zander, and although he made me very angry, I have to say that the plot from Flawed Heart completely grabbed me with its constant twists and turns, all the heartbreaking moments and how much Amelia, York and Zander learned throughout their story, plus the supporting characters were amazing!
Amelia is my favorite character in The Bedroom Tour so far, she's a very sweet, good girl with a big heart who always tries to make the people she loves happy, unfortunately her story is far from simple: the love she has felt for Zander since she was a child is one of the things she treasures the most, but also one of the things that most hurts her throughout the book, and when he & York get carried away by their desire for revenge and love for each other it's Mia who suffers the consequences. However, Mia takes her pain and manages to find a new family, people who love & accept her as she is, who support her unconditionally, trust her and thanks to whom she finds herself again and discovers her dreams, one of my favorite things about her character, I also loved reading her recovering her relationship with York and fighting for her happiness.
Zander is a broken boy, who lives with his grandfather against his will and who, together with York has a plan to take revenge, and although I think he is not a bad person and he truly loves Amelia, I cannot deny that he makes one mistake after another and I was very frustrated that he distrusted of her over and over again, however his personal story is very interesting, I loved seeing him realize everything he did wrong and trying to correct it to show Mia how he really feels, and the truth is that when he proposes it he can be really cute and tender.
But not only Zander & Amelia stole my attention, I liked York, Ocean, Jade, Onyx and the guys from Rise Avobe so much: they have their own plot lines & personalities that put a great spin on the story, and I really can't wait to read them again and I hope everyone can get their book at some point.
Flawed Hearts is an angsty, emotional and pain-filled romance that follows the main character Amelia from childhood to adulthood and who has no idea what she has done to make her brother York and his best friend Zander, someone she has loved since she first met him, turn against her.
This is one of those books where you will actively dislike the alleged hero and his sidekick. They were both just pure nasty to Amelia especially since she was just a child when their bullying started to the extent they turned the entire school against her making her life a misery. They couldn’t seem to realise that she was just as much a victim of two old men’s machinations as Zander was. My heart hurt for Amelia. She was completely in the dark as to why they hated her so much and kept reaching out only to be hurt over and over when they rebuffed her. Finally she flees overseas to study where she blossoms into a strong and confident young woman with the help of friends she claims as her family. Even then though she keeps trying to find a way to break the contract in a way that wouldn’t hurt Zander. Until the day Zander decides maybe Amelia wouldn’t make such a bad bride after all despite her finally finding a way to break the contract, and starts messing with her once again. I can’t tell you how much I hated Zander and York reading this book. Zander’s first instinct is always to threaten people when he doesn’t get his own way like a petulant child and how could York turn against his only sister and treat her so badly? So I was surprised by just how much I actually loved this book and that was down to Amelia and the other characters. Flawed hearts would’ve been a five star read for me if only I hadn’t been left wishing Amelia had chosen someone else instead of Zander.
Thank you to the author Ashton Brooks for sending me an ARC of her new novel Flawed Heart - the first in her Bedroom Tour series now out today!
This was the definition of emotional whiplash. We meet our two main characters, Amelia and Zander when they’re young and with dual POVs I instantly loved how Ashton took us to their very beginning.
The storyline was interesting from the very start and you couldn’t help but grow attached to the characters, even if you didn’t want to root for them in that moment. And there were lots of moments I was not on Team Zander.
I enjoyed the book, the storyline and Ashton’s writing style throughout but I almost wished the relationship outcome would’ve been different. And while I love dual POV, this book would’ve stood out if we had a minor chapter here and there of Beck’s or York’s POV to give us a new perspective on the situation.
It also had one of my least favorite tropes, but I didn’t mind the direction Ashton took it in. Even with that, Ashton’s writing was flawless and her words captivated me from the beginning that I couldn’t stop knowing what would happen to these characters.
Read if you like: brother’s best friend, childhood crush to lover, second chance romance, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, grand romantic gestures, FMC growth, dual POV, music industry, marriage contract
This book is the typical story where female heroines go and lose their backbones because they are so fucking high on the four letter word...love…dick (hero).
Hero here decides to ostracize the heroine to make her fall out of puppy love for him so he can escape a contract marriage with her (he sees her as a sister). And lo and behold he even manages to get her brother to help him and the heroine basically becomes a black sheep and is bullied till they go to university because the hero and her brother are super popular. Not to mention where the hero flaunts his relationship with another woman to make the heroine’s heart break. But guess what? Karma exists people. Hero gets cheated on. I mean, I saw it coming a mile away.
The heroine finally runs away to New Zealand to escape the hero’s cruel words, but she still can’t forget her one true love. Boo-fucking-hoo. And hero sees the heroine’s tanned skin and newly coloured pink hair and decides “damn I want me some of that exotic looking woman” (because yes, the heroine has complained about looking pale as shit). And what does the heroine do? Barely makes the asshole work for it before they do the devil’s tango!
The rest of the story is that the hero fucks up again and yep, the backbone-less heroine takes him back with a snap of his finger. This guy is the worst kind of hero and damn I hoped the heroine was stronger but I guess we are all a fool when it comes to that one asshole who was our first love, right?
