Bloody Good Book by his Geoffness…

Laidiees und Genntellmen…

A novel of very good standing, here. It’s not the very best he’s done, nein. However, it’s very readable, and perfect for the holidays (soon).

It’s great for slipping away from the hustle and bustle of foolishness going on around you, and being selfishly self-absorbent, ignorant, even.

I’d also say, it’s in the early 90’s, which was not immediately obvious to one, and it was only at the mention of ‘———‘ I realised it must have been set in the past! Well, it certainly didn’t affect my enjoyments of it.

There are a whole host of degenerate types involved, doing degenerate type things and stuff, so, be aware of this if you are a new-age anti-degenerate-ive and show a propensity to avoid such type-castings!

Otherwise, it’s a well rounded thriller-action-espionage, with hints of socio-political, a waft of love/lust here & there, (no hot, steamy stuff - thankfully), there’s some mention of early version internet, too.

All in all, if you are looking for something to pass the time, this is a great candidate for your humble attentions. Geoff, as he frequently does, has once again written a very readable buch.

I can wholeheartedly give you a thumbs-up recommendation, here.

couldn’t out this down

Right from the start there was intrigue, action, espionage, history, and even some romance (of sorts) thrown in. Geoffrey Archer knows the formula for a great read.

I’ve read many books by Geoffrey Archer that I absolutely loved and will revisit at some future date. This is not one of them. I spent 2 months reading it off and on and it just didn’t hold my interest but I’m a completionist and wanted to finish it. yemv

Scorpion Trail is very different in theme, plot, location and characters to Eagle Trap - another excellent book of Geoffrey Archer's that I have previously read - but just as compelling and exciting. This time the central location is Bosnia, during the brutal civil war of the early 1990s. The main character, Alex Crawford, in hiding for the previous 20 years from the IRA, has been recruited by an aid agency to deliver supplies to victims of the war. He is, in part, escaping from a recent and terrible personal tragedy, but before he knows it, he is embroiled in a scheme to smuggle out of Bosnia a 12-year-old girl, the only surviving witness to a massacre. And leading the attempt is an old flame, his previous connection with whom has led to him being on the IRA's most wanted list ever since. Has fate brought them together again? If so why and how will it end this time?

As with Eagle Trap the suspense and tension in the book are maintained up until the last page and final, clever, twist. The characterisations are excellent and once again the descriptions of the locations, the military and UN and, in this case, the idiosyncrasies of the Bosnian War are impressively detailed and vivid.

Thoroughly recommended.

A fast paced, quick to read thriller about an ex MI5 agent who has been living undercover for the past 20 or so years

After a tragic accident involving his step son, his current marriage is pretty much over, and after he is contacted by an associate decides to assist in the humanitarian effort in Bosnia. On the way there he catches sight of an old flame, also invokes in the relief process. As he goes to Bosnia, he is contacted by MI5 to see if he can find evidence on a mass murderer.

A fairly complex plot ensues with Iranian scientists trying to obtain nuclear material, a collusion of western security services, and the IRA trying to locate Alex to avenge a murder.

Quite enjoyed it, and is better that some of his others that I have read.

Even though I found the story line rather weak and at times very predictable, I enjoyed the uncomplicated plot and intrigues between maybe too many characters. What this book indeed did was giving me an interest again in the Bosnian war and made me once again aware of the inhuman and senseless human beings turn into during conflict and war especially when race and religion play a role. And how power and greed can turn ordinary people into heartless monsters that can change history to suit their nightmares and destroy generations of innocent victims.

A good read indeed. I found this thriller a notch above Clive Cussler maybe more believable. Fast paced weaving history, politics and a bit of science. This was the first Archer book I have read I will be looking for more

Very predictable at times. The male protagonist's (Alex) character is weak compared to what we could expect from a spy.
