"My friend Erin saw the impossible happen. It all started when we found a mirror in my attic. Not just any mirror. A magic mirror. It had a chain at the top of it. And when I pulled it — poof! I disappeared!
"At first it was fun. But now I can tell you something is wrong. Way wrong. I feel cold and dizzy. And I'm having trouble reappearing. Will I ever see myself again?" —Max Thompson

This vastly improved upon the episode version of the original story. Unlike the episode, any visual issues and acting aren’t really an issue here. It’s all fixed via imagination, which is a major plus. Those main things aside now, I love this story. It’s a nice addiction allegory that scarily encapsulates concepts of dying, or let alone just a great story about a NOW CONFIRMED haunted mirror. I say confirmed because there’s so nice add ons that weren’t in the episode, and one that involves a plug in for the mirror. I won’t talk about what’s different specifically, but the differences we get make the mirror extra horrifying to me. This is comparable to the original in ways, but it doesn’t match up for me. My issues consist of Noah being annoying (but not a major pain thankfully) and the characters all being bland. That’s pretty much it. Presents syndrome has some minor damage to the score, to be fair. Overall, 9/10. This was easily one of the best presents books, and I highly recommend this if you like the original story.
I loved this. So cute. I read it today for English for book love. Cuz we have to read any book we want for 20 mins a day. I ended up spending a whole hour reading this cute book. I love R.L. Stine writteing it so cute and easy to read. I love how it ended to. And I love the plot twist at the end to. It really got me. Lol. The whole time i read it it got me wondering a lot. And then as I read it got answered even though I still have a question about the ending but I can't put my question in this because itd be a spoiler so yeah. But anyways I really did enjoy this book a lot and I loved the main charter adorable. I loved almost everyone in this book.
It definitely still reads like R. L., but apparently these were written by others! They get talked about as ghostwritten, but all of them are credited to the other people, so I don’t think that’s how GW works.
This is part of the series that novelizes the TV episodes. They are all 40-60 pages and include full page photos, so very generous on the novel part. This one was enjoyable and made me want to turn the TV on for sure, so they were successful in their aim. It’s quick, fun, and nicely descriptive…lights and mirrors found in hidden rooms in the attic should most definitely be left alone!
Also I know it was the 90s and word usage changes, but I feel very weird about them all being labeled a ‘Hot TV series’ meant for children.
Personally a 4/5*, really did a great job of doing what they set out to do with these.
