After getting out of the Army, Landon Bradley packs up his motorcycle and heads North West in hopes of closing up old battle wounds and maybe even settling down. Not accustomed to staying in one spot for too long, he's not certain that he'll ever find a place that he can truly call home.
When he finds himself stranded in a small Wyoming town, Landon meets Maxine Abrams, more affectionately known as Max. Her blunt honesty and humble generosity make him feel closer to home then he ever has before. But when his feelings for her grow too strong, the reality that, like everyone else, he could easily lose her too, Landon feels the ever present urge to leave again. And Landon must decide which call to heed. His heart or the open road.
It is my hope to provide motivation for fellow authors who continue to polish their voice and work on their craft. I want to inspire as many writers as I can to view their work as an ongoing journey. You never know which step you are on in achieving your dreams, all you can do is to keep pressing forward. Looking back shows you how far you've come, and looking ahead gives you direction, but the most important part of the journey is where you are right now. Never stop striving, live without regret, and use both your experience and your dreams for the future to shape what you're doing right now.
Oh wow, I did not expect such an emotional intense book. The characters pictured by Maravel feel really real and alive. She delivers a touching story about an army veteran who tries to find his place in the world, now free to choose where he would like to go. Usually he prefers to be alone and on the road. One day he meets a very special woman and from now on things are different. Once again her book has a lot to offer. I like the values and emotions Maravel portrays alongside the main characters. Looking at the cover I expected a tough'n'rough biker story, and I got one. Not in the way I thought I would, but in a much better way, because life can be pretty challenging too. A story for everyone and I highly recommend it.
"There's something in your eyes that scares me," Max whispired, looking through the window. Landon took her face into his hand and made her look into his eyes "What?" he asked. "What do you see?" "Fear," she answered plainly. "I see fear"
Shawn Maravel has become one of my favorite authors, The Wanderer..she did not disappoint! The Wanderer follows Landon Bradley, Landon has just finished his time in the military, he doesn't have family, and has never known what it feels like to call a place home or to settle with anyone long enough for them to get close to him. Now that he is out of the military his plan is to travel around and go where ever the open road takes him.
While cruising along one day on his motorcycle , he crashes and ruins his bike, he is now going to have to stay in this small Wyoming town till his bike is up and running for the road again, he expects this is going to be along wait...he doesn't expect Maxine also known as Max, Max is different, Landon can't understand what it is about her, all he knows is she gets to him, like no girl ever has.
By the time Landon realizes what it is he feels for Max...it may be too late.
The Wanderer was amazing! I'm just gonna flat out say it was incredible. The characters are so real, the emotions are so raw. I am not much of a cryer in books, but this book still got me choked up, twice! Landon and Maxine both have gone threw alot of lost in their lives, and threw out the story you really get to know each of them and see there development threw their lost. This story had a wonderful romance, and wonderful character development. I loved Shawns Volition series, but I gotta say with The Wanderer she completly out did herself! I read this book in one sitting! I couldn't put it down if my life depended on it!
To make a long story short I really loved this book, the characters are so likeable, the romance is amazing, everything is wonderful, if you have not yet picked up any of Shawns books, pick up The Wanderer, you will not be disappointed (:
Love the U.S. Military and I was happy to have picked up this enjoyable story. Our hero, Landon, spent fifteen years in the Army and has finally decided he had enough. Landon has always felt that he never belonged. Growing up as a foster child, he's use to leaving those he gets close to. He is a lost and wandering soul with no girlfriend, no family nor close friends. After being discharged from the Army, he sells all his belonging, hops on his cycle and rides cross country to Oregon to fulfill his Army buddy's request. However, he has a minor accident with his motorcycle and ends up in a small town in Wyoming. There he meets, Max (Maxine), owner of a very reputable motorcycle repair shop. Max offers Landon shelter while she repairs his bike. Small town hospitality is in full swing. Max is a kind soul and extremely likable as our heroine. As Max and Landon get to know each other, they find that they share many similarities. They slowly and reluctantly develop a relationship. But will the wanderer in Landon prevent him from falling for Max? Will he leave her like he has left all of his previous relationships? I really enjoyed this story, though it was a little too clean for me. Alas, no steam in this story :( However, do not let that deter you from reading this wonderful story :)
You all know this book is not my usual type of book to read. But when Shawn asked me to review it, how could I say no? I couldn’t, because I’m always looking for new books that will take me by surprise and you know what, The Wanderer hit that spot.
The story follows Landon Bradley who has just finished his time in the Army and decides to hit the road. With no family, friends or girlfriend to speak of, he’s just looking to cruise around, enjoy the life of travel and take some time to reflect on the last 15 years. As he moves from place to place, he hasn’t got any plans to stay in one place for too long……well that is until he crashes he motorbike and has no choice but to stay in a small town in Wyoming, while his bike is being repaired. What Landon isn’t prepared for is to meet Max. A young woman that he’s instantly attracted too but, Max gets Landon like no other women has and now he has to choose to stay with the women he’s falling for or hit the road one more time.
Like I said this book surprised me. It surprised me because I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this story as much as I did. It’s one of them books that you can keep reading and reading and not want to stop because it’s just such a mellow book. It’s a read that flows easily and it’s very enjoyable. The first part of the book is a little slower paced because it’s about finding out who Landon is but as soon as Max comes into the picture, you’re filled with suspense and hope. You feel the attraction between these characters straight away and then I sat on edge for the rest of the book hoping there was a happy ending for both our characters.
Ever since I heard Shawn say that she pictures Landon as Ryan Reynolds, that right there for me is an instant win but what I didn’t expect for Landon to become so real to me. He was so down to earth, raw, and passionate and I felt very connected to him. Yes of course, it helps he’s hot too but Landon’s a truly desirable character, even with his faults you’ll still can’t help but fall for him.
Overall, The Wanderer is a great addition to Shawn’s work and I think everyone should give this book a try especially if it’s not your normal read, because like me I reckon you will be surprised. Read it!
I bet everyone in this world think no one understands them and that despite everything, they're lonely. I think I'm lonely. But Landon Bradley is truly lonely. 100%, completely and fully lonely. If I go missing today someone will call the cops. My family will be worried, if I died people would mourn me (or so I think) I have a couple of friend who might cry but Landon Bradley has no one. No mom or dad or cousin or grandma or friend or coworker or credit card bill collector or anything. If he died, no one would know or care and that's just such a heartbreaking thought. Really I had to stop reading more then once to contemplate this and it was not a fun thought! So many times I wanted to jump into the book and just give Landon a hug an tell him, "It's alright buddy, you might be a fictional character and I might (or might not be...) real but you have me! I love you!"
A pet peeve of mine is when an author writes about something she/he doesn't know about but that is not the case with The Wanderer and Shawn Kirsten Maravel. Her understanding of the army is obviously not just researched based and she has her facts straight. The same goes with the motorcycles, Maravel and her characters understood motorcycles and their parts so well it made me feel like I was a biker junkie!
Me being the romance whore, have to mention the relationship between Max and Landon and that was another aspect Maravel didn't disappoint in. It wasn't love at first page, their were no random love declarations from chapter 3, or any of that stuff that I hate. The romance grew before my eyes and I enjoyed seeing the characters fall in love and it wasn't just the romance that grew, the characters also faced their fears and overcome life obstacles and I love the journey of it!
I had high hopes for this book and I was not disappointed! Shawn Maravel has made a fan out of me with this sweet, romantic well done read:D
Rating: 4 hearts~ a must read for romance/contemporary lovers like me!
Military Love. Heartfelt Sigh. This book was given to me for a review from the author herself, Shawn Kristen Maravel. After reading it, twice, I must say that I am epically glad that I said yes! :)
I had a special connection to this book from the beginning. I was raised as an Army Brat and I am currently married to a Combat Medic in the U.S. Army. I tend to be drawn to books about the Military life, and even though this entire book takes place after Landon has gotten out of the Army, the things mentioned and the challenges he not only went through, but goes through afterwards, are very much real.
Landon is a lost soul, a wanderer, with no roots to anyone or any place. Upon leaving the Army after 15 years of dedicated service, he hops on his bike to head... where? On the outside he has no idea, but in his heart - he knows exactly where he is headed. What he didn't bank on was Max and her little backwoods town on Wyoming. After blowing a tire on his motorcycle, he ends up needing a repair shop, which is how he ends up at Max's shop. Much to his surprise, Max is a female.. and quite freaking GORGEOUS. Letting him stay with her for the duration it would take to fix his bike, the two set of on a journey of strangers getting to know one another. Neither one of them expected to end up giving their heart to the other one, but then again who does?! With Landon always leaving before feelings that big can arise, will he be able to stick around?
What I loved most about this novel was the story behind the main story. The story that tells us about the brotherhood these men find in the Military, about the loss that they so commonly find themselves facing, the toll everything takes on them and the changes that it can cause, but most of all, I love it for the story it told of a best friend, a brother in arms fulfilling the request of one of his soldiers. It truly is a heartwarming story.
I was beyond touch at both stories that Maravel portrayed here. As a fellow Military wife, I believe Shawn did one amazing job!
The Wanderer is what I would call a 'real' romance. It wasn't your typical 'love at first sight', mushy, unbelievable romance where the characters are virtually naming their first borns after knowing each other for an hour. Landon is a guy that you just can't seem to dislike. Even when you know perfectly well all about his womanising and commitment-phobic ways you still develop a soft spot for him because you know he is just a product of his upbringing and that he is still a good man at heart. Max is also the kind of woman that you grow a liking for as a character as well. She's strong, independent and doesn't go weak at the knees just because a handsome man stands in front of her. I really enjoyed the steady pace of this book which starts off giving you the story behind Landon and how he came to be riding across the country side. During his travels an unfortunate event leads him to meet Max and then we are taken on a journey as their relationship slowly develops from there. The Wanderer was to me what a romance should be, a journey between the characters and a real sense of them developing together as people before jumping into bed. I guess you could say I like my fictional romances a bit more like things are in real life. To me this means you can relate to it a bit better and because of this I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Overall, The Wanderer is a great read for anyone after an interesting story with realistic, believable characters.
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Even more than I did Shifting Gears. The Wanderer is the story of Max and Landon. Landon grew up bouncing from foster family to foster family, girl to girl, never settling on anyone or anything until he joined the Army. He served in the Army for over 15 years and now he was out. Retired. Time to make a life somewhere, even though he didn't have a plan.
The only plan Landon had was taking his Vulcan and traveling to Bend, Oregon to see the family his commanding officer and best friend left behind when he was killed. That was derailed, however, when Landon wrecked his bike in Wyoming and met Max. Max is like no one he's ever met before, opening her home to him without question while she fixes his bike.
Needless to say that this is a classic romance from a lot of perspectives, but it was more of a down to earth romance and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. I laughed, I cried, I smiled and I could not get enough of their story. The characters are real, the reactions are real, it's easy to close your eyes and see the story play out before your eyes.
Legalese: I was provided a copy of this story in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my thoughts and views and have been influenced by no one.
This is the first book that I have read written by Maravel and I was so impressed with her writing and the characters. It was so well written and the character were down to earth and just felt so real. Like every day people that you and I would know, that you and I could be.
Landon was a fabulous character. My heart really went out to him and I felt myself really caring for him and for his outcome. I love it when that happens, when I get so caught up in the characters that I really start to care about them.
Max was a great character as well. She was so down to Earth. A tomboy that was still soft enough to be girly when she wanted to be but strong enough to not let anyone tell her who she should or shouldn't be or what she should or shouldn't do. She was truly a kick butt character in a real sense.
I loved reading about Max and Landon as a couple, how they interacted with one another, discovered one another and discovered themselves as well. It was nice to see them recognize their demons and try to overcome them.
And can I say that I absolutely adored that this book had an epilogue? That we got to see where Max and Landon were years down the road? What they were doing and how their lives were? I love it when authors do that.
This was a fabulous read and it most certainly won't be my last book by Maravel.
Can you spend your whole life with a guard up? The Wanderer is another great read from the Indie Shawn Maravel! I waited eagerly to have the semester to end so that I could give my full attention to the book. The book was well worth the wait. Landon is a lost, guarded soul who has had been through a lot in his 35 years of living. He is released from the military after serving not one, but a few leaves in the middle east. Landon doesn't do well with sitting still on one spot in life as he now embarks on a new adventure, taking his new motorcycle across country. On the road Landon tries to push aside the life he knew in the Army yet no real aim in his travels. He meets an arraying kinds of people along his way especially Max. Max is an owner of a Motorcycle shop who gives Landon a run for his money, challenging him just as he always had done to those around him. The two bond together with the similar personality trait of not letting people in that gives Landon a new view, does he stay with her or does he hit the road. The Wanderer is yet another great work from Shawn Maravel that will have the readers sympathizing with the characters as the book goes on.
The Wanderer follows Landon Bradley after he has just left the Army. Landon has no family and no place he has ever called home, so he just heads out to where ever is bike takes him. Landon is perfectly fine with just traveling from place to place, until he ends up in Wyoming. He meets Maxine, and does not know what he is in for.
I really enjoyed the Wanderer!! The story and the characters were so well written. I love that they are so real and you can relate to them. My heart breaks from Landon before he meets Max. Having no place to call home, feeling alone, and then losing his friend. He is so strong to have been through so much and have held it in for so long. When Max enters his, it was just perfect! Those two were just meant to be together! He was able to help her follow her dreams and she was able to make him finally have what he always wanted.
Loved this book; the ending was perfect! Cant wait to read more by Shawn!
The Wanderer is a fun romance that takes you for a ride on the back of Landon's motorcycle as he travels from town to town with his memories of times past and new adventures of the present. He's lived most of his life as a playboy. Just when the girl he may be dating at the time starts to really have feelings for him, he takes off. This habit is how he lands in the Army to begin with. The Wanderer has two strong main characters, Landon and Max. both characters appear confident , secure, and independent on the outside. As you get to know them, you realize they are just like the rest of us. They want love. Their interactions with one another will have you laughing, crying, and at times you'll want to kick them in the shins.
This book was sent to me from the author for review. The opinions are my own.
After getting out of the Army, Landon hops on his bike and heads to Oregon. He grew up in foster care and honestly believed that he was destined to live alone, no family and definitely no love. When he crashes his bike the last thing he expects to find at the mechanic shop is a woman that total gets him. Maxine (Max) offers him a place to stay until he can get back on the road but these two have more in common that either of them expected.
I loved the story. The Landon and Max were written in a way that they felt like real people to me. I'm a big sucker for a man in uniform so this book appealed to me on many levels. This is definitely a book to read if you're looking for a good romance.
Sometimes you need to crash and burn to find what you've been looking for. Landon finds meaning after a lonely existence in Max, and their romance will wring your heart out like a rag. Well done, Ms Maravel!!
I really enjoyed "The Wanderer". This is the first book I have read from Shawn Maravel and it won't be my last. She writes great characters and even better novels.
" This was such a heart warming read of a solider recently out of the army and a motorcycle shop owner. I enjoyed reading the journey both chracters were going on separately and then together. The depth of the chracters and their story drew me in from the very beginning. The pain, the longing, the friendship, the love, all the feels. "
