Desperate to escape an arranged marriage, Charleston belle Camille Sinclair answers an ad for a mail-order bride which will lead her all the way to San Francisco. Taking a husband sight-unseen is better than marrying the old lech her aunt had suggested -- and may give her the freedom she needs to find her long-lost brother. But when Camille arrives, she discovers handsome logger Seth Braden has absolutely no desire to marry...until she charms him with her sweet nature -- and even sweeter kisses.
Sandra is a new to me author. This is a really good story. I really enjoyed it but the ‘he doesn’t love me’ stuff got a little repetitive. But the HEA was good.
To escape an arranged marriage in SC, Camille Sinclair responds to an ad for a mail order bride in San Francisco. When she arrives, she discovers her intended, Seth Braden, didn't place the ad, his partner did. Camille tries to be independent, getting a job and refusing to go to WA with Seth and Cooper even though she's fallen in love with Seth and lost her virginity to him. However, after being attacked a 2nd time by a sailor and Seth rescuing her, Camille agrees to go to WA with him and they are married on the boat north. The problems don't end there. Catching the eye of more unscrupulous men in WA, she's kidnapped again. FINALLY, they work out their problems and the marriage flourishes. Some sex.

This book has been sitting on my shelf for years...probably since high school. Wow!
Anyway, I really wanted to like this book, especially since it has been in my To Read pile for so long. I struggled through this book and I don't usually have that problem. The book started off well then fell off.
Camille Sinclare is a desperate woman, she wants nothing more than to escape an arranged marriage to an old lech. To get away, she answers an ad from the paper and moves across the country to marry a stranger and to search for her brother. Seth Braden was not interested in getting married and was a bit peeved when his friend, Cooper, sent for a mail-order bride for him. So, Camille and Seth did not hit it off right away, but their attraction to each other was difficult to deny.
I liked Camille's character. She was not the typical historical heroine, but there were times when she - and some of the other characters - did not seem to fit the time period. As for the relationship, I felt that it was lacking. I also thought the plot was slow and the book dragged. However, I did like her writing style - her voice. So, I may look into another book from this author.
I'm on chapter 12 (out of 24)...and i really like this book! I can tell already, that when it's over, i'm going to be wondering about the characters, and wishing all good books had a sequel!
The main character, Camille, is a mail order bride, in a desperate flight to escape being married off by her Guardian/aunt to an old man that she detests. Once she arrives, to meet her soon to be husband, she discovers that her groom isn't aware she was sent for! His well meaning best friend is the one that sent for her...for him!
In time...they find attraction, desire, need, and belonging for each other.

The played stupid gamed and of course had sex. I give this book 3 stars an a 5. A fun but dumb read.
