IN BOTH HIS ARCHITECTURE AND HIS LIFE, Frank Lloyd Wright created powerful, dynamic, and utterly unique statements. Frank Lloyd Wright: The Interactive Portfolio embraces this spirit of innovation in a unique collection of removable sketches, letters, and other documents that bring Wright to life.
The treasures of Wright's storied life and work--from early drafts of his An Autobiography to his hand drawn wedding announcement, and from a letter describing early plans for Fallingwater to sketches conceptualizing the Guggenheim Museum--fill the pages of this museum-in-a-book. Also included is the audio CD Frank Lloyd Wright Speaks, featuring excerpts from interviews with Wright and lectures to his Taliesin fellows.
I had to rush this a bit since I was reading this for a Readathon ,but I sincerely enjoyed my time with this book this evening. The extra fold out letters, sketches and pamphlets really made this an interesting experience. I would say this author is trying to present an unbiased picture of Wright, focusing more on the work than the scandal. I was originally attracted to this book because my husband and I were planning to attend the Wright Walk in Chicago this May. This is a trip we've been talking about for twenty years. We had the tickets and the Airbnb reservations and were looking into the airfare. Then Covid -19 happened. Then the walk was postponed until June 27th. We cancelled our reservations and booked a new Airbnb. Then our second Airbnb cancelled because of the virus. They didn't feel comfortable renting out their apartment. En route to booking our third Airbnb we found out the walk was now scheduled for September 12th. Sadly that date doesn't work for us.☹️ So I guess this book will just have to do for the moment! Stay safe everyone and remember, when all else fails, you can always read the book instead. What a seriously first world problem.
