Vet Shop Boys #7

Got Me Talking

Rate this book
What do you call a herd of rhinos? A crash. That about sums up my life, too.

Having spent the last three years caring for my dying mother, I need a new leash on life. So I say goodbye to the UK and take a job opening at a small-town vet clinic in the US.

Via a layover in New York. Where I get, ahem, laid over.

With a man.

Not something I've ever done in my forty-three years.

Not something I intend on repeating.

Which won't be a problem since I'll never see the guy again… Until I step into the local bakery.

There's no way anything can happen between Jeremy and me. I'm lost, grieving, and, oh yeah, straight. He also happens to be fifteen years younger than me. So what is it about the sexy baker that's suddenly got me talking?

Got Me Talking is book 7 in the Vet Shop Boys series and can be read as a stand-alone. Expect a silver fox British vet having a bi awakening, an adorable baker with a stutter, age gap, plenty of humor, found family, and a heartwarming happily ever after!

3.5 stars, rounded up

- cute baker with a stutter
- British Silver Fox
- bi awakening/gay for you
- found family
- small town

When a friend suggests a completely non-verbal and anonymous hook up while in NYC, Jeremy, who has a severe stutter, jumps at the opportunity after his latest attempt at hooking up failed due to his partner being a jerk about his speech impediment.

Montgomery, a transplant from the UK trying to outrun his grief, is spending a few days in NYC before starting his job at a small town vet clinic. Questioning his sexuality for years but never acting on it, Montgomery stumbles across a profile on Grindr requesting a silent sexual encounter and figures it will be the perfect way to quell his curiosities.

Except several days later, things don't stay anonymous when he walks into the local bakery of the small town he's just moved to and comes face to face with the much younger man he hooked up with. Montgomery finds himself unable to resist the sweet baker, and as the two spend more time together he soon starts to fall for him.

Jeremy and Montgomery are honestly too cute for their own good, and their story was so damn sweet. I loved how accepting and patient he was with Jeremy's stutter, and helped him be more confident in himself. Likewise I loved how Jeremy took care of Monty, who has a terrible penchant for sweeping his problems under the rug.

They’re just so cute!

This was very very cute and simple. They are both such sweethearts. Nothing too complicated, very low angst. I love the extra epilogue near the end. I love couples who grow old together, makes me a bit emotional. That was perfect.

Happy New Years! 🥳

Damn you author!
That ending got me it fucking got me
😭😭😭 I didn't expect it to be so emotional but it did and it made me cried.
I thought this was gonna be a Cozy wholesome read in some ways it was, and the characters they're just so well written, it has depth, and how they adjusted with each other with both of their struggles and I really liked that actually.

I truly hate to see this series end...but what a beautiful, warm and lovely story to end it, leaving these men who have entertained us through 7 books to enjoy their found happiness. Jeremy has been so present through the last six books and now he gets his story as well as his well-earned love and happiness. We have heard him struggle with his stuttering causing him to hide from life in the bakery. While his close friends don't have a problem with his stutter, Jeremy’s experience has been that everyone he has dared to try to have a relationship with, put their own desires and wants before giving any thought to what makes Jeremy and others like him, special in their own right. Just one short, arranged night in New York allowed Jeremy to have an unforgettable night with an unforgettable and attractive silver fox...Montgomery. Jeremy went away from his hometown for the encounter as he didn't want to take the chance that anyone would know him and know about his stutter. He pulled this off with one big requirement for the "date"...the one condition? no speaking, absolutely no talking. Montgomery...The guy he was meeting, was beyond kind and had no trouble with Jeremy's "rule".... after all, they were never going to see each other again. Montgomery was a Brit that was moving to the U.S. to work at the Vet Boys Animal Clinic, in Jeremy's hometown...but Jeremy didn't know that since ...the "no taking" rule. Montgomery has his own problems.... he's grieving his late mother, but he wants to make a clean start, away from the UK all the way to the U.S. With an overlay in New York, he grabbed the opportunity to have this encounter with this guy with the "no speaking rule. You can guess what happens when Jeremy gets home. He is shocked, and to say he's surprised, would be the understatement of the year. So... he tries his hardest to simply ignore and avoid Montgomery. Even though Jeremy's situation was painful, I had to laugh because it was freaking hilarious the lengths that Jeremy went to, to avoid speaking to Monty. At last, they reconnect, and Monty is more than understanding. They are such a great team. Slowly they build a friendship and more. It has been such a pleasure to meet these guys and to know not only Jeremy but also Montgomery because he has his own story to tell, which we learn by the end....and we get to see how Jeremy and Monty are doing 39 years into their future at the end of the story. I have to give Casey Cox a tremendous amount of credit. She has masterfully created this series and these characters, my compliments and my thanks to her!! It was a wonderfully written series...it was fun...it was emotional...it was engaging and adorable. I'll be revisiting these guys at some point.

4.5⭐️ - A wonderfully touching story of two men finding each other totally by accident. It was funny, emotional and low angst.

Both MCs were struggling with their own challenges and neither was looking for anything serious. They had a beautiful and wonderful night together as strangers and parted ways, never to meet again. However, life had a funny way of turning their worlds upside down.

Jeremy must be protected at all costs. He had absolutely no confidence. He had struggled with a severe stutter his whole life and had been made to feel like he had no value. He was dismissed, left behind, and blatantly disrespected simply because of his speech impediment (please correct me if that term is insensitive- I looked it up and couldn’t find anything conclusive.) He was such a kind and gentle soul. He merely wanted to be to accepted for who he was.

Montgomery had moved to the US following his mother’s passing. He’d been her caregiver for 3 years and she wanted him to find himself again after she was gone. So he followed thru with her wishes and found himself starting over at 43. He’d also been questioning his sexuality for some time but had done little about it. He was a caregiver by nature which contributed to his profession as a vet. He had so much to give but didn’t quite know what to do with himself.

They unknowingly found themselves in the same small town. Jeremy was terrified to see Monty again and he didn't know what to do. He'd done his best to have one blissful night with a man without fear of rejection. Once Monty discovered Jeremy's "secret," he was so so kind and understanding. As Monty was struggling, he felt lost and alone. Jeremy understood Monty and did what he could to help!

They were so comfortable together. And happy!! I loved their interactions and acceptance of the other. Neither pushed the other to be anything except for their true self. It was just such a lovely low angst story!!

I was recommended this book for an MC with a stutter, and I loved the premise and how things progressed for Jeremy and Monty. I love the whole premise of a hook up and then meeting months later and having to see each other on a regular basis.

I loved Jeremy, and I hated that he had such low self esteem from growing up with a bad stutter. But I love that Monty loved that about him. They had a bit of a slow path from hook up to committed partners, and I really enjoyed their story. Definitely fun escapism, with sweet moments, a bi-awakening, and 15 year age gap romance.

AND THAT ENDING. Got me right in the feels.

While his close friends make no point of his stutter, Jeremy’s experience with douchebags who put on their trousers before the deed is done, just because of his stutter, is in short horrible.

One night in New York he had a hot night with an attractive silver fox, Jeremy had one condition, no speaking.
The guy was hot and kind and had no trouble with it.

Montgomery is grieving his late mother. He wants to make a clean start, away from the UK all the way to the US, as the new vet at the Vet Shop Boys vet clinic, in Brookhaven. With an overlay in New York, he grabbed the opportunity to have a sexual encounter with a guy, no speaking, just in silence.

Jeremy is the baker and the bakery is closely involved with the vet clinic. You can guess what happens. Jeremy is shocked and will try his hardest to avoid Montgomery so he’ll never have to speak to him.

Even though it’s painful I laughed loudly because it was freaking hilarious what Jeremy did to avoid speaking to him.
At last, they reconnect, and Montgomery is understanding. They are such a great team. Slowly they build a friendship and more.

It was such a pleasure to meet these guys and to know not only Jeremy close, but also Montgomery because he has his own story to tell.
At some point, I cried my eyes out, MASTERLY done, compliments!!
It was a wonderfully written story, it was fun, and emotional, with engaging and adorable characters with great features, nicely developed, with a good flow, all very enjoyable to read.

I am a huge fan of this series.

They have such a really good feel that just brighten your day.
In this book we meet Montgomery a.k.a. Monty who has been through a tough couple of years. He had nursed his mother through the last three years of her life and she decided that when she was gone he would need something new in his life to keep him busy and active. So she got him a job at vets shop boys in America got him a loft to live in but he was just a broken man. When he gets to New York he decides to look on Grindr. He’s always questioned his sexuality and decides if he ever wants to see how he feels being with a man this is the perfect place and once he sees an ad he’s quick to respond.
Then we have Jeremy who is a fantastic baker but doesn’t have much luck finding a man who can see past his stutter. When Tyler has the idea he should put out a message on Grindr when he’s in New York, for a man for the night no talking just action he agrees. After talking to Monty on the Grindr message they agree to meet and they have a fantastic night but then it’s back home back to work and getting on with his life. But he hasn’t stopped thinking of him and then he gets a shock of his life when walking into the bakery is the vets from the vet shop boys with Monty. It’s not the best second meeting because he drops a tray of cakes and does a runner. What will Monty think of him now??
Monty can’t understand what he’s done wrong and finally figures he will do something about it. And this is when he learns Jeremy has a stutter. Monty is not take aback and says he would like to see him again. Jeremy gets his phone number from one of the vets and this is when they really start texting learning about each other . I think Jeremy just feels a bit easier getting information out faster even though Monty has told him it doesn’t bother him just take your time he’s in no hurry and to top it all off Monty thinks Jeremy’s voice is sexy.
I say this every single book but I think this one is my favourite. I really like Monty, he’s got a lot of things going on and it seems that Jeremy is the one to get through to him. He’s not used to having friends or people to listen to him, he’s usually the carer but now he’s finding the people around him want to care for him to listen to him be friends with him. And I’m so glad he did open up. There is a strong connection between Jeremy and Monty it’s like they’re soulmates they get each other they read each other’s minds Jeffrey is a wonderful character I’ve liked him in previous books he just needed some confidence that his voice doesn’t define who he is because he is one amazing guy who is so clever by the end of the book you see how clever he is. The passion that Monty and Jeremy share is just wow it’s just electric. It’s honestly like they can’t keep their hands to themselves. I’m a room they find each other with Intense stares. they’ make a cute cute couple And I love the twist with the voice message I will admit I had a tear in my eye. A few twists and turns Another brilliant book looking forward to the next book in the series.
I received an advanced reading copy of this book and this is me leaving my honest review.

Quite simply put this might be my new favorite of the series. Sorry Chase and Fischer, you've been replaced. Jeremy and Monty were just too perfect for one another. I already liked Jeremy from the glimpses of him in Tyler's book, but Monty quickly squirmed his way into my heart too. A man who loved to give oral sex, but doesn't enjoy receiving? Where can I find this dream man!? It was fun how these two meet for a singular, and silent(Jeremy's request) hook up hundreds of miles away from their respective homes, both thinking they will never see each other again. However, it looks like fate decided to step in here because low and behold the newest vet at Vet Shop Boys just happens to be the lovely Monty.

I loved how shocked they both were when Monty made his first trip into the bakery. Poor Jeremy was so surprised he basically ran and hid in the kitchen til Monty left. It hurt my heart every time Jeremy was treated differently because of his stutter. He's extremely self-conscious about it, to the point it impacts most of his decisions. This is why I said I think fate stepped in. Out of all the people in the world Jeremy ended up sleeping with, it was the one man who without a doubt wouldn't give a single shit about his stuttering. In fact, Monty adores it and often begs to hear it during their numerous steamy times which I also thoroughly enjoyed. It's one of the things that draws him to Jeremy, though it takes a fair bit of time for Jeremy to start believing him when he says it.

"It is never acceptable to think less of a person or to treat them differently in any way because of a characteristic or trait they have no control over. That's one of the many lessons I learnt from my mother."

It's a testament to what a lovely woman Monty's recently deceased mother was that he turned out to be such an accepting and kind individual. He was exactly what Jeremy needed, and though he wasn't looking, it turned out Jeremy was exactly what the grieving Monty needed too. I adored the ending and getting an epilogue 25 years into the future was like a wish come true. It makes me so overjoyed seeing MCs still unbearably happy all those years later. A solid HEA if there ever was one.

I have been so in love with this series since the start, so I was excited to have another Vet Shop Boys book to read. As with all of Casey's books, this one has you laughing, crying, and loving along with the characters. This story was so heartwarming, I didn't want it to end. I really loved the epilogue and how it gave more information than most epilogues usually do. This book is definitely my favorite of the series.

Just beautifully unexpected

I absolutely love this series, it has such fun and fabulous characters. This one started off a bit cliché with how the MC'S met again, but it was fun. There are a lot of emotions in this book. I really wasn't expecting the 'twist' and it made me cry. Jeremy and Monty were just so sweet together and I fell so in love with them both. I can't wait for the next story now.

Ok but tries to do too much

This was an easy read but pretty mediocre. I loved how it celebrated the MCS stutter, but thought it tried to do too much by also adding in age gap, other MC medical issues, grief, etc. Like the author was trying to be the most inclusive author ever. Also, I didn't think a veterinary business based on the vets' sexuality made any kind of sense.

I was disappointed at the reveal near the end. I preferred Monty not caring about Jeremy's stutter because he was just a good person, but because he had a loved one with similar issue.

The ending was more realistic and bittersweet than I enjoy for a romance HEA. After so much focus on how much Monty loved Jeremy's voice, it was really cruel to have him lose his hearing. I'm not in a low angst romance read for that kind of tragedy.

It was sweet and short, but nothing made it stand out except how hard it tried to stand out.

Laughed til I cried and cried til I laughed

I love the Vet Shop Boys. I’ve loved Jeremy since we first met him. I wanted him to find someone worthy of everything he had to offer and he found that in Monty. Even though their story had sadness with some hardship, it was still sweet, happy and everything I’d hoped for him as a character. Monty needed someone like Jeremy to make him feel and be ok with having emotions.

The two of them are the perfect balance and I cried my way through the last chapter and epilogues.

This one is different. Sad. Also it starts slow, a lot could have been cut, the book is not long, but it still could have been shorter.

The ending was great and, appart from that horribly slow start, the book was good. I still hate Tyler 🤣

OMG! Some people... Everything can be "offensive"! Grow up, people!!!

Got me Talking is Jeremy and Monty's (Montgomery) story.

Jeremy is a hunky baker and a secondary character from Tyler's story, Got me Going. After experiencing another rejection from a hookup on the account of his stutter, Jeremy decides to go with Tyler's idea of having a silent one night stand while vising friends in New York. Jeremy's one night stand turns into a hot encounter with a British silver fox also vising New York which he will not soon forget.

Monty is completely new to Brookhaven, accepting a job as the new veterinarian at the Vet Shop Boys clinic, ready for a new start on a different continent after death of his mother few months ago. When he accompanies Gus, Vet Shop Boys owner, to the local bakery for a Thirsty Thursday coffee run, he is just as surprised as Jeremy to see his New York one night stand right there in Brookhaven.

The more Jeremy goes out of his way to avoid him the more pissed off Monty feels, culminating in Monty finally loosing his cool and resorting to a very un-British behavior in the local supermarket. After Jeremy apologizes they start a tentative friendship and decide to continue having sex with each other, because despite Monty still considering himself straight and not having any interest in having sex with other men, he finds himself very interested in having sex with Jeremy.

Despite the two of them slowly developing feelings for each other, they both have their own hangups about getting into an actual relationship. Jeremy struggles with a lack of self confidence and doesn't think he deserves to be in a relationship while Monty thinks of himself as too emotionally repressed in order to be a good romantic partner to anybody. As the two navigate their feelings for each other while Jeremy is trying to get his small business off the ground they have a health scare when Monty, who has been experiencing headaches and vertigo since arriving to Bookhaven, passes out in front of Jeremy.

Initially I was really intrigued by the premise of two strangers having a silent one stand, each of them having a new experience (Jeremy not having to worry about being rejected once again and Monty having sex with a man for the first time) and the more I learned about the two of them the more I found myself liking Jeremy and Monty as characters. But despite (once again) liking the characters it still felt like there was something missing to fully pull me into the story. I am not sure what it might be, but I do know that this is becoming a rule with this series (with one notable exception of Got me Wishing). I think it just might be the case of this author's work not being for me. Which is perfectly okay, but at the moment I am not yet ready to give up on this series completely. I have few more books to catch up on and I am actually curious about the next book in the series and will be sure to check it out once it is released.

Themes: dual POV, character with a stutter, character exploring their sexuality, one night stand, age gap

Characters with depth, great story

Rating: 4.5🌈

Got Me Talking is the penultimate story in Casey Cox’s heartwarming series about a small Virginia town Veterinary Clinic’s doctors search for and finding their HEA.

You can feel the series winding down as the last of the characters find their partners and lasting relationships. Yet Cox’s stories remain strong and compelling, with each person getting a new chapter of their lives to move forward with their biggest dream, a person to love who loves them back.

Jeremy has been a staple in the series as this quiet baker behind the wonderful baked goods at Daley’s Bakery, a place that’s been featured throughout the series. He’s grown as a character but now gets his story and HEA.

One of the major element here is stuttering. Jeremy has suffered in the past because of the rejection and mistreatment he’s endured due to his struggles with speech. Only with Tyler, a former Vet Shop Boy veterinarian and his best friend, and the other vets and partners, does he feel accepted.

The newest hire at the Vet Shop Boys is an older English veterinarian, who’s relocating to the US for personal reasons. Montgomery is in storage, emotionally and almost physically. He’s committed to a rental property and still grieving the loss of his mother, as well as getting over his divorce.

Cox sets up a chance meeting with both men that’s believable, incredibly sexy, and lets us inside each of their minds as something unexpected happens between them.

It also helps us understand the need for communication when the logical moment arrives where they meet again. And the difficulties that arise when it doesn’t happen.

I love the way Cox is able to pull the reader into the world of these characters to the point where we sense their insecurities, their need for shielding themselves from being exposed emotionally. That’s on both sides. Montgomery is also frail, but his quiet, almost frozen demeanor hides the turmoil threatening to come out whereas Jeremy’s fears carry forth with every word he utters.

Their relationship is slow and moving. I wish it was longer. The age gap and health issues had some surprises towards the end.

It’s that ending that’s shows more than anything the series is almost at a close. We’re not in Virginia anymore.

And that’s ok.

One more unhappy vet to get his HEA in Got Me Feeling and then the series is done.

It’s a lovely show. I’m thrilled to see Jeremy get his romance and happy ending. There’s realistic elements but I expect that from the series and author.

It’s why I’m recommending this and the entire series. Well written, wonderful characters and plots of interesting elements, moving scenes, sexy, and warm-hearted. Love it!

Jeremy is an awesome baker who is working on a possible goldmine of a project. He discovered that there are no organic treats for animals that animals will actually eat so on his off time he is experimenting making treats. He is friends with the Vet Shop Boys so he has access to animals to test his products. You would think his life is perfect but his love life stinks. Jeremy stutters and that stops many relationships before they start. He is even having problems with hookups. Then his friend suggests that while he is in NYC for a conference, he posts that he is looking for a hook-up with no words. He should arrange everything before by messaging. Then his partner would have no idea about his stutter and Jeremy can have a hot evening. Jeremy follows his advice and hooks up with Monty, a silver fox. Monty admits that he has very little experience in hooking up with another male but when they meet in person Monty really gets Jeremy going. Jeremy enjoys his night so much that he almost regrets not getting Monty's phone number. Then a week later Monty shows up at Jeremy's bakery. Jeremy is surprised and horrified. He doesn't want to spoil that night by having Monty treat him badly because of his stutter so Jeremy does his best to avoid being near Monty.

Monty is 43 years old and is struggling with what he wants in life. He used to work as a vet and date a beautiful woman but she didn't satisfy him. Then his mother got sick and Monty took the next three years off to take care of her. Now she is gone and he is struggling with grief. She had found him a job as a vet in the US and found an apartment but he was unsure if he wanted to go. He is struggling with his sexuality because women do not attract him any more but he does show an interest in men. When he flies to the US to start his new life, he spends some time in NYC. He sees a grindr offer for a silent hook-up and decides to try it to see if he is interested in men. Just one look at Jeremy and he is definitely interested. Jeremy teaches him a lot in their encounter and Monty wishes that he could see him again. Then one day Monty and his new boss go to the bakery to pick up coffee for everyone and Monty sees Jeremy. Monty wants to continue where they left off but Jeremy is intent on avoiding him. Then he confronts Jeremy in the grocery store and learns that Jeremy has a stutter that makes him feel defensive. Can he convince Jeremy to give him a chance?

Book # 7 in the Vet Boys series, WOW!! So exciting and I will say I was super pumped for Jeremy's story. I have had a soft spot for this man, and I needed his HEA, badly. And Monty was his perfect guy! I was so happy with the story and think Casey did a really great job. You'll get age gap, hook up turns into love, MC with an accent, MC with a studder, baker with a passion for organic dog treats, and a new hot vet looking to find his footing in a new country, and all the fun, loud, and lively friends from previous books to make this story a win!

I just wanted to hug Jeremy this whole entire book and I wanted to give Monty all the props for being open and loving to our sweet baker. They did not know it when they met, because literally no words (but definitely body fluids) were exchanged, that these men had so much in common and even were probably meant to meet all along. Jeremy has a studder and even though this should not be the first thing people notice about him, the past has taught him that it is. He holds himself back around people he does not know because even when he is feeling good enough to speak to someone, that someone can always shut him down, and that is just so wrong on so many levels. He also has been proven time and again that hook ups are not very successful. Until, shhhhhh, the no words hookup goes right! Monty is later in life and is relocating to a different country. He is also still grieving the loss of his mother. And the idea of love, well there no room for that. And he is not entirely sure that moving to the States is his forever. Oh and he the worst bed known to man in his new modern loft, with lingering headaches he can't explain. Poor, poor Monty. It is clear these guys just needed something good in their lives and they are that for each other.

I loved their connection. I loved their understanding and caring natures. They had great chemistry, and I loved the scenes that incorporated Jeremy in the kitchen and Monty just observing while he did his research. It was all very domestic and sweet. But the kitchen being used as a sexy surface was a-oaky with me too! There was the classic non communication thoughts at times of course but not overly so and they were handled well. And the ending before the Epilogue....SO GOOD! OMG I LITERALLY CRIED! I had a feeling Casey was hinting at something, but he really nailed it perfectly!

I will say I wanted a bit more of Tyler and Daly in this book since they are Jeremy's closet friends within the series and the boys who always have his back and build him up. They were there a few times, but I was hoping for a double date or something. But mostly I just loved this book and love Jeremy and Monty together so much. The far into the future Epilogue was really creative and something you don't always see in romance. It solidified their forever so well. Definitely can't wait for more of Casey Cox this year! And more Vet Boys!!

Solid 4 stars.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book provided by the author.

I've been waiting forever for Jeremy's HEA and while I loved it, it felt like to book was too short for all the heavy issues that were being brought into the relationship, like just as they started finding their way the characters got their I Love Yous out and the curtain dropped. I didn't experience that satisfied sigh-inducing feeling because nothing really felt resolved. The epilogues tackled a few things up that were left up in the air, but man, brutal honesty, my poor, soft, heart wasn't ready to be torn from my chest in the last few pages. I half wish I'd skipped them because while many things get tied up, it happened so quickly that I felt like I was still flat on my back after having the rug yanked out from under my feet.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jeremy Cohen is a talented baker with a speech impediment that has really undermined his self-confidence, leading him to believe that a loving relationship just isn't in the cards for him. Heck, even hook-ups are difficult to experience once they hear his stutter. Fresh from a humiliating hook-up gone awry his friend, Tyler, suggests he try something a little out there when he goes to NYC to visit some friends - a hook-up without words. It sounded a little crazy at first but the more he thought about it, the better it sounded, leading to the hottest sexual encounter of his life with Monty.

Forty-three-year-old Montgomery Smith is a veterinarian going through a bit of an existential crisis. He is alone, lonely, questioning his sexuality, and mourning the recent death of his beloved mother, whom he cared for for the past three years. Her most fervent wish was for him to leave England and find happiness in the USA, which is how he found himself working as the newest vet at the Vet Shop Boys clinic in Brookhaven, VA. During a layover in NYC he decides to experiment with his attraction to men by agreeing to sexual encounter without words, avoiding the awkwardness of having to explain how little experience he actually has. Once it's over his curiosity in men is mostly satiated, save for one.

When Monty walks into the café where Jeremy works a few days later, they are both shocked, but while Monty is intrigued, Jeremy wants to preserve the memory of their encounter and not have it ruined by having Monty turn aware in disgust at his stutter so he goes to great lengths to avoid him at all costs. Cupid had other plans and things come to a head, with them becoming friends, and then something more, despite both of them feeling worthy of taking the leap. I loved the slow burn aspect but wish a little more showing instead of telling were done in this book, especially given its short length, it could have used a little more robustness. I would have connected better if they had talked to each other more and less to the reader. I was so happy for Jeremy getting JOAT off the ground and all the help Monty provided, but right up until the the last few pages, it didn't seem like Monty was settling into his new life well enough for him to feel happiness or joy.

Bottom line, I enjoyed the book, but because I loved Jeremy so much from his introduction in Got Me Going I was hoping for a little more. Still, it was a great story and I do recommend it. I will be looking forward to Got Me Feeling coming out this autumn.

A beautiful and heartwarming story

Jeremy fascinated me in Tyler's book, Got Me Going, and I'm so pleased Casey found him a vet of his own. This is such a great series and this couple is definitely my favourite so far.
Jeremy thinks he'll never find someone who, after hearing his stutter, will want to be with him. He's having enough trouble with hookups so anything long-term is far beyond his reach. It made my heart hurt, bless him, as he's such a lovely man.
Monty is grieving, lost, lonely, existing aimlessly. Moving from England to the US isn't helping him sort out himself or his life. We Brits with our stiff upper lips and repressed emotions can all sympathise with Monty. It comes very naturally to us to say 'I'm fine' when we're obviously not, and 'Mustn't grumble' is a particular favourite too.
Both men had issues but learnt to lean on each other as they became friends, with affection and love creeping up on them before they knew it. Monty gave Jeremy all the time he needed, the confidence to use his voice and to believe in himself. He never made Jeremy feel less than, and I loved him for that. Jeremy was exactly what Monty needed and didn't know he wanted, and with him Monty became more open, not overthinking everything then keeping quiet anyway. He felt loved and appreciated, and returned those feelings tenfold.
There was angst in this story but never between the two of them. They were just made for each other and I loved how cleverly Casey reinforced that for Jeremy towards the end. And the ending? One of my favourite parts of a book is a good epilogue, and this one was soooo good. Any epilogue that gives me ten years later or twenty years or even longer has my vote every time. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing that the couple you've grown to love are still together and happy decades later, and Casey knocked this one out of the park for me.

**4.5**
The Vet Shop Boys is such a great series to read and Got Me Talking is another wonderful addition to it.
There is a lot of emotion as Monty has just moved to America following the death of his mother after spending three years caring for her, and Jeremy has yet again been dismissed by a possible hookup after they heard his stutter. He has a very negative view of it and himself and so a silent hookup in NYC is the way to go. At least until the two men meet in Brookhaven after Monty starts his new job at VSB. Shock and horror for Jeremy but Monty would love to get to know the young man better, even if he considers the fifteen years between them a bit much.
I love how these two men slowly grow closer over time whilst allowing themselves to enjoy each other's company. Monty is not in a good place, emotionally or physically but being around Jeremy and the unexpected happiness he experiences with him has him questioning his future, which he is constantly unsure of. One thing he is absolutely about, is his Jeremy and that his stutter has no impact on how he feels about him. Whereas, for Jeremy, it's the thing that has kept him from making connections and having relationships, constantly having people turn him down weighs on him. Monty's encouragement and their time together helps a lot and it's heartwarming to read him become more comfortable in himself and confident when it comes to his business idea.
I really enjoyed these two men together. Their differences bring them closer and lift each other when needed. The epilogue also goes quite far into the future which was fun to read, the idea of what might be normal to have.

I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

𝐆𝐎𝐓 𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 is the seventh book in the Vet Shop Boys series by Casey Cox which is Jeremy and Montgomery's story.

Jeremy and Montgomery agree to a no-talking one-night stand while both are in NYC. Weeks later, Montgomery walks into the bakery Jeremy works at and turns Jeremy's life upside down because he's afraid Monty won't want anything to do with him when he learns what Jeremy is hiding.

I LOVE THESE TWO. Officially my favourite Vet Shop Boys couple. Jeremy and Monty are so adorable. I wanted to hug Jeremy and love how Monty accepted him automatically. These two had me smiling through the entire book and also brought tears to my eyes.

I always love visiting the Vet Shop crew and can not wait for the next one in the series.

1st read April 2023 —> actual rating: 4.8/5

I officially have a new favourite book in the Vet Shop Boys series, Got Me Talking.

I’ve been looking forward to Jeremy’s book and seeing him finding his person, falling in love and all that. Jeremy is a sweet baker who started testing organic pet treats in book 5 and continue his venture here.

Montgomery, a silver fox British vet coming to work at the Vet Shop Boys clinic, is grieving his mother and following the path she set up for him before her passing. Seeing him opening up, trusting someone, and connecting with others was heartwarming.

There’re so many things to love about this book. Casey Cox writes with so much heart and I love all representations he brings into his books. Jeremy’s stutter being seen as just a part of what makes him all that he is by the people that matter, and how it should always be seen. Using Monty’s grief to show that grieving may be different for each person and that it may never end, but one can still find comfort and deal with their grief eventually, and especially having support from others. Companionship, friendships and love, that’s all this is about, isn’t it?

As with all the other books in the Vet Shop Boys series, and something that I adore, found family is definitely present here and it’s great. Oh, have I mentioned that we have bi-awakening?

Also, Got Me Talking has one of the most beautiful and touching epilogues I’ve ever read. I won’t say more now but it was everything.

Thanks Casey Cox and Charity VanHuss for providing me with this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been looking forward to Jeremy’s book since Got Me Going and was so excited to finally read his story. He’s been such a great side character that I was beyond happy he got his HEA. As with the other books in this series, I think this can be a standalone story because this book focuses on Jeremy and Monty and any appearances of characters from prior books are as secondary support characters but the previous books are great reads with humor and good stories.

Jeremy is the head baker for the bakery that Tyler and Daly own. He’s been making fantastic treats and as a side hobby, he’s been trying his hand at animal treats with support from the Vet Shop Boys. He has a stutter and while he’s become more open and talkative around the vets and their partners, he still faces some harsh and negative attitudes in his dating life. Which brings us to his meeting of Monty.

This book felt a little different from the other books I’ve read in the series but I enjoyed the set up. There are less interactions between Monty, the new British vet in the office and the rest of vets in the office. This book spends more time on the relationship between Jeremy and Monty and the building of trust and love between the two of them and really on Jeremy coming into his own in a number of ways. The ending and epilogues were fantastic for a number of reasons that I won’t give away. For such a sweet character, it was a great ending for him.

This has been a really fun series to read and I’m hoping we get Locky’s story in the next book.

I really loved this book I think that it is my favorite of the series. This is a bit of an age gap romance with lovable MC's who each have personal issues. Be warned that one of the MC's has lost a parent if that is a trigger for you. Jeremy is a a baker in his 20's who may look perfect but he has a stutter that men don't seem to be able to overlook. He gets talked into doing a "silent" hook up from an app while he is in New York visiting friends. Enter Monty, a 40 something veterinarian from England who has just moved to the US after his mother's death. He took time off from work to care for her for 3 years and is still reeling and missing her as evidenced by him continuing to listen to the last voicemail she sent him. The two meet up and have a hot and silent night together and think they will never see each other again. Then one day Monty walks into the cafe where Jeremy works and Jeremy finds out that Monty is the new vet at The Vet Shop Boys. After a rocky start the two become friends that progresses into a relationship. Jeremy has to learn to trust that Monty isn't going to dump him for his stutter, and Monty needs to learn to open up about his feelings and take better care of his health. I love how each of the MC's support each other and learn to better communicate with each other as their story progresses. I recommend this book if you want a sweet love story with a bit of angst.

"Great. Somehow I’ve found myself in a conversation about emotions, and there’s no alcohol involved. How do people do this sober?"

"How does a person break a lifetime of habitual thought? It isn't easy. Ask me how I know."

An epilogue set 25 years into the future where one of the characters is in their late 60s pretty much automatically is not okay. Not. O. Kay. We do not want. None of us. Okay maybe there's you out there, but 99% no. Please, please, please, please, let us enjoy the youthful HEA. As a person who is 59, I can tell you that yes, life and sex are still good, but no, having to think about potential medical issues is not. It is scary. So not okay, Casey Cox, for taking us there. You wrote a fluffy book that ended with a horrible disease and a glimpse into the inevitable heartbreaking knowledge of the decline of old age. Yay - nice fucking HEA. Not sorry for saying this. And also: ONLY 15% of people with Meniere's disease lose hearing in both ears. So again your epilogue with the impending doom seriously sucks.

"People don't use cell phones any more. It's all wearable tech these days. You'd think people would have objected to having a microchip injected into their bodies, but humanity's wondrous and sometimes completely dumbfounding. We all have devices implanted into us these days."

"...the rest of the world, filled with androids and robots..."

I rim Jeremy until my jaw seizes up."

The epilogue was NOT OKAY.

A friendship blossoms and dreams are supported for two men that deserve love.
Seventh in series (Vet Shop Boys), can be read as a standalone but might be more fun if read in order as there is a shared secondary cast. Age gap. Dual POV. Jeremy is constantly judged for his stutter, but the talented baker decides a one night hook up while on vacation in New York with no talking is enough to scratch his itch. After his short sightseeing adventure in New York which included a mind blowing anonymous hook up, British veterinarian Monty is on his way to a new job to see if he can find his own way to happiness after being a caretaker for many years. When Jeremy and Monty meet up again of course their chemistry and attraction can’t be denied, but they spend time together building a friendship and camaraderie that eventually leads to deeper feelings. Both men are struggling with their own inner quandaries, Jeremy overcoming his lack of confidence and possibly starting a new business and Monty determining what he wants out of life and dealing with his health issues. They are definitely supportive and happy and bring out so much strength in each other, it was so romantic as they took time to get to know each other and yet complemented each other in so many different ways. Loved them, and the HEA epilogue had me tearing up.
