This book is a piece of garbage. Really! Despite the promise start, the plot ended into an uninspired and grossed scene of sadism, which does not at all inspire horror, but just boredom. As I said, a piece of garbage that counts on violence and sex to gain some fame. It does not worth any penny or time to read it.

At the beginning I thought it was actually going to be an interesting book, probably with a great plot twist. I was intrigued by the main idea that somebody was giving life to the crimes in the writer's books. But the story did not go in the direction I imagined. I was sooo disappointed in the end especially with that gross final chapter..all those details kind of ruined the whole book for me and honestly, I've skipped a lot of the last few pages.

Frank Fons è uno scrittore di gialli, con un matrimonio fallito alle spalle a causa proprio del suo lavoro. Nei suoi libri, infatti, Frank, prendendo spunto da persone e fatti della propria vita, ama raccontare di psicopatici torturatori e, gli elementi macabri sono più che abbondanti. Line, la moglie, ha paura che Frank nasconda un lato oscuro dentro di sé e possa far del male alle figlie, così lo lascia e non gli permette più di vederle.
Frank si rifugia nella sua casa per le vacanze e, in questo ambiente isolato e silenzioso, continua la sua carriera di scrittore, tornando a Copenaghen solo in occasione della fiera del libro.
Improvvisamente qualcuno comincia a mettere in pratica gli omicidi e le torture che Fons descrive nei suoi libri e le vittime sono tutte persone di sua conoscenza.
Per un attimo pensa di contattare la polizia, ma capisce che nessuno gli darà ascolto. Quando il "fan" minaccia la figlia, Frank non ha più scelta: deve capire il perchè degli omicidi e fermare l'assassino.
Ma lo fa a modo suo...
Il libro non è sicuramente un capolavoro, ma si fa leggere. Però....solo coloro dotati di stomaci forti possono leggere le ultime orripilanti pagine.

Storia accattivante, scrittura stringente e protagonista quasi sempre ubriaco. Insomma un classico dei libri nordici gialli.
La mia valutazione sarebbe stata più alta se non fosse stato per quell'ultimo capitolo. E' stato straziante leggere quelle 20 pagine. La ricchezza dei dettagli truculenti di un azione abominevole e peggio ancora consapevole da parte di chi l'avrebbe subita non aiutano nella lettura. Difficile psicologicamente anche per la così accurata stesura che fornisce immagini fin troppo realistiche. Dopotutto i critici di Frank Fons dicevano che fosse troppo... troppo! E avevano ragione.
Per non parlare poi della conclusione. Un intero libro ad aspettare di conoscere finalmente la persona che si cela dietro questi orribili omicidi per poi rimanere con la bocca asciutta e un nonnulla in mano! E' estremamente crudele da parte dello scrittore, ed è per questo che ricorderò sempre questo libro.

Became increasingly dismal with each chapter and I had to skip almost the entire final chapter - unnecessarily graphic gore and the ending! (sorely tempted to post spoiler :o)
Disappointment not so much at the content (despite promising premise) as being confounded that the same writer of an intriguing Library of Shadows can stoop to such baseless plot.
Waste of time and energy trying to complete this book... Wondering if this even deserves the single rating

Es un libro diferente, original tanto en el desarrollo como en el desenlace. Aunque el final me ha dejado un poco indiferente reconozco que sorprende y es distinto.

Jeg har egentlig lyst til at give “Over mit lig” 4 stjerner, for det er et virkeligt godt plot, men slutningen skuffer. Den er både alt for makaber, og jeg sidder uforløst tilbage, uden at have den mindste lyst til at vide mere.

I didn't really enjoy this very much as it was simply too gruesome and violent for me - I skimmed over the final scene. The story itself was good (although I think perhaps I have come across this idea before) - an author who finds himself apparently with someone copying in real life the stories he has written (in this case, particularly unpleasant crimes). This is not so much a crime novel as a psychological thriller or even a horror story. Is he a reliable narrator? His ex-wife and even his parents seem to accept that he is "sick", and he certainly drinks a huge amount. His ex-wife accuses him of being unable to differentiate between fantasy and reality - so, is he himself the serial killer (if not, why on earth does he make everything so much worse for himself by his behaviour at the crime scenes?) His novels have apparently all been inspired by the desire to seek revenge on his friends and family through the printed word, so has he taken this one step further? The end of the novel suggests not, but the story is unresolved. Going to find myself something a little less unpleasantly vivid to read next!

He leído muchas críticas de este libro, y más bien malas, la verdad.
Así que cuando lo empecé, no sabía qué me iba a encontrar.
Me ha gustado mucho hasta que hemos llegado al último capítulo, ¿era necesario algo así?
Puedo entender que a nuestro protagonista le iban las historias gore....pero en fin.
Por eso no le doy mayor puntuación, está a la altura de Amererican Psyco.

Hace mucho que no me sucedía pero señores aquí está, el mayor mojón que he leído.Aburrido, absurdamente goore, violencia sin sentido, falta de tensión y suspense.Un despropósito inconmensurable. Yo ya perdí mi tiempo. No lo hagas tú.

Una storia coinvolgente con una parte finale raccapricciante, molto descrittiva che trasmette le reazioni del protagonista ma con un finale altamente deludente!
Ecco perché le tre stelle di valutazione. Aspettare tutte quelle pagine, assistere ad una tortura allucinante e non avere nessun nome, nessun vero motivo? Perché? Perché "rovinare"un libro con un finale del genere?
Il nostro protagonista, Frank Fons è uno scrittore, come dice il titolo "imperfetto", dato che i suoi libri gialli e alquanto raccapriccianti, non sempre vengono accolti bene dalla critica e dai lettori, tranne in alcuni casi.
Fons ci racconta la sua storia, presentandoci anche i vari suoi libri che ha scritto proprio partendo da eventi che hanno caratterizzato la sua vita e che ora qualcun altro sta usando per uccidere delle persone vicino a lui, proprio come avviene nei suoi libri. E quando questo misterioso individuo si avvicinerà troppo agli affetti più cari, cioè sua figlia, prenderà in mano la situazione...portando però al finale sconclusionato a cui accennavo prima.
Ci sono rimasta male, poiché la lettura è scorrevole, nonostante sia abbastanza "forte" in alcuni punti e cioè quando ci racconta i suoi libri. Mi è piaciuto, nonostante tutto l'alternanza della vita privata del protagonista con la spiegazione dei suoi libri, così come la scelta di riprendere i delitti letterari per gli omicidi "contemporanei".
Anche lo stesso protagonista mi è tuttavia simpatico, anche perché ben caratterizzato, con le sue paure e la sua storia coinvolgente e il suo indagare senza coinvolgere la polizia, anche se è abbastanza strano. Eppure non trovo un senso per il finale. Perché si, per me il problema sta tutto lì.
Qualcuno ha scritto che è un libro che si lascia dimenticare facilmente; per me no, non è così, ho un ricordo nitido, anche delle sensazioni provate durante la lettura. Certo però che rimarrà un libro da leggere una sola volta e niente più e non da rileggere col passare degli anni.

Compared to the overall rating on Goodreads, this book is quite good. I didn't expect that. I thought that after a few chapters, I would drop it down but I was hooked till the end.
Tbh, I had expectations of the book that fall in the normal category of cliches. I thought that Frank would go on a hunt for the killer and ends up finding him then fix everything wrong that happened in his life. But it didn't go that way. If I have to describe this book in a few words, it's "The fall of a failed author". Frank loses everything in his life and ends up throwing himself to death's door and accept his demise as the killer shows him how his last manuscript should be done. This book just shows some of the ugly realities that some writers experience. In Frank's case, he sank further the more he wrote and there was no good result to his writings. Moreover, life didn't treat him well.
As the story progressed, I thought that Frank was the murderer and he had a double personality or something. It's expected since his life takes a huge turn after an interview where he confesses how he got his inpirations but his words end up twisted. His wife leaves him and bans him from seeing his children. To the point that when his daughter visited him, he didn't recognize her. I thought it was cruel of her to do that and it shows how she never trusted him. I thought that losing everything would turn Frank into a monster. But it wasn't the case. There was really a killer and I wish I knew who it was. The ending feels rushed and it's kinda disappointing.

Mikkel Birkegaard este un scriitor danez contemporan. El a debutat cu "Biblioteca umbrelor" in 2007. Am ales sa citesc aceasta carte deoarece am vazut ca pe Goodreads are niste note foarte mici si a trebuit sa aflu de ce (iarasi curiozitatea letala de felina).
Al doilea lucru care m-a intrigat a fost ca in descriere se mentioneaza ca "se depaseste cliseul horror". Ma gandesc ca in ultima vreme se scrie atat de putin horror de calitate (cu unele exceptii) si se fac niste filme atat de slabe incat chiar nu mai stiu ce nu este un cliseu horror.
In recenziile despre carte cititorii se plang de "gore" si violenta insa desi sunt asociate cu el acestea nu inseamna neaparat horror. Atat de mult s-a uzitat de aceste concepte incat ele nu mai sperie astazi pe nimeni. Mi se pare incorect ca un nordic-noir sa primeasca o stea din aceasta pricina stiind ca tocmai asta trebuie sa contina.
"Over mit lig" a aparut in 2009 si este despre un scriitor de romane de groaza si un copycat killer. Acesta ucide dupa manuscrisul lui Frank Fons. Scriitorul va trebui sa gaseasca criminalul transformandu-se intr-un veritabil detectiv.
Avem de-a face cu un nordic-noir cu ingredientele specifice: violenta, detalii sordide si neplacute, elemente socante si respingatoare, multa tortura, sange etc. Oamenii sunt morocanosi, se lupta cu alcoolismul, e mereu frig si intuneric.
Per total insa avem in fata un thriller bunicel. Mie una mi-a placut si nu inteleg notele mici. Cand iei in mana un nordic-noir te astepti sa gasesti violenta si dramele nesfarsite ale personajelor.
Sfarsitul mi s-a parut aiurea si asta a contribuit la scaderea unor stele. Totul este lasat in coada de peste - o manevra la moda in zilele noastre. Cu toate acestea eu m-am prins cine este criminalul si cu putina logica se poate ghici.
P.S. din cele 7 vieti de felina am mai taiat una aici :)

A friend recommended me this book..... The manner of writing is good, but for me this is the only thing that is above average in this book. I am totally unimpressed with the plot and the characters. There are a few dead ends in the book that are left opened or unexplained.

Me gustó mucho el principio y el argumento, pero el final es una escena sádica sin sentido y gratuita que no rebela nada y no pega ni con cola, parece como si el escritor quisiera acabar rápido el libro.

I am bothered by the fact that the book does not reveal the real killer. And this is only to draw attention to the victim, the writer who hates himself so much that he chooses a horrible way to pass :(

Mucha construcción para un final que solo tiene sentido en la cabeza de un escritor de películas serie B.

Es un libro que me ha costado bastante leer. La premisa es buena, pero he tenido que ir y volver con otros libros porque este no me estaba emocionando. Para acabar el ultimo capitulo no he podido ni leerlo entero de el asco y la grima que me daba. Es como mucho un 2'5.

Het laatste hoofdstuk is er echt over waardoor het verhaal compleet om zeep is. Het laat me daardoor met een wrange smaak en een onbevredigd gevoel achter.

Should have checked the score upfront. Indeed not worth reading, incredibly predictable, some no value add sex scenes in light of adultery, focus on the drinking habits of the writer, boooorrrring.
