TimeRags II

Rate this book
Steve Miller is rapidly approaching one of those milestones many writers never reach -- one million words in print.  He's written science fiction, been a reporter, edited newspapers, and written articles for newspapers.
As a drama critic Steve's covered opening night plays and as a blues and rock music critic he's covered everything from one-gig garage bands to the Baltimore club scene to Bob Dylan and Little Feat in concert.
TimeRags II might seem an oddity to those who know him as a fictioneer, critic, or journalist, but Steve -- grandson of internationally esteemed poet Dorothea Neale -- spent portions of his early writing years as a touring coffee house poet and reader.
In response to audience requests, Steve's first book, TimeRags, was published in 1975 in an edition of 200 copies. TimeRags II updates that edition, with three poems added and two deleted; a number of typographical errors have been corrected and some minor changes in punctuation and order of presentation were made.  Enjoy!

Honestly, poetry has never been one of my strong points, or one of my likes, so I am not really a decent judge of this collection. However, I gave 2 stars because of that. Not really the author's fault, but I only found 1 poem I actually liked in this entire collection. It was way better than Lord Jim though (the only book I've ever given only 1 star), so by that token, I couldn't give 1 star. Normally, I'd just give a book I read and found average 3 stars, (because most books I read are average), but having not really enjoyed this one, I couldn't in good conscience do that here.

I got to hear Steve Miller speak and picked up a copy of this anthology of his poems at the BOSKONE science fiction conference. Perfect length for when you have a bit of down time and want a quick, poetic escape, I enjoyed them :-) There are so many poems out there about scenery and feelings, it's nice to find a collection that has a few aliens and exoplanets thrown into the mix of city life and nature.
