Glyn Sheridan Burgess is a British scholar of medieval language and literature, Em. Prof. at the University of Liverpool. He has published on Marie de France, besides other topics, and is the translator of the Penguin edition of the Lays of Marie de France and the Song of Roland. He was awarded a knighthood in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques in 1998.
At times the amount of blood and drawing of swords can get tiring but when one realizes the impact this work has had on literature it certainly changes the reading experience. This is not simply another King Arthur story, it is one that also questions the honour code of knighthood and looks at courtly love and through these topics shows a character that is able to grow and become a different person through the events of the story.
