A biography of the First Lady who not only aided her husband after he was stricken with polio but also served as a delegate to the United Nations where she helped start UNICEF.
Does anyone else remember this series of children's books? The 2 that stick out are this one and The Value of Believing in Yourself- The story of Louis Pasture. It's funny that the me then was so taken by those 2 characters; as the me now is a champion of the Raw Milk Underground Movement and way ass critical of electoral politics and the structures they uphold. This series really made an impression on me and I wonder if it plays some part in my fascination with other people's stories.
I really liked this series and now my daughter uses them in her 2nd grade class. Simple, easy-to-understand messages. For my daughter, Eleanor became synonymous with caring, I doubt she even remembers the blue imaginary friend.
Great info and wonderful illustrations tell the story of Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The President did many amazing things but it is interesting to read about his wife and the things she did. The Value time books tell great stories and have amazing illustrations that make learning fun for kids and for adults also.
I read this to my daughter while we waited for the doctor (in was in his patient room). This is absolutely the worst children's book I have ever read. Eleanor Roosevelt has an imaginary friend who tells her what to do even when she is a grown woman. It is insulting.
This book makes me want to have a granddaughter named Eleanor - after Eleanor Roosevelt. What a brave, kind and caring person she was. I love how she did what she felt was right and how she didn't let other people's opinion of her stop her from helping others.
Great factual story about Eleanor Roosevelt and the many caring things she did for others. Great story to instill caring for others and learn about a famous woman who's caring changed history.
1. I loved the School House Rock-esk illustrations. Everything had eyes. The sun. The earth. Buildings. 2. I think this would have gotten a higher rating if they were a tiny but more detailed about history. The New Deal. World War II. Holocaust survivors. 3. But I did love how much of an emphasis that it put on how much the First Lady actually did for her people. She literally went to places to see the needs of the people. I wish it were like that now. 4. I guess I never knew Eleanor was Teddy Roosevelt's niece and that her and Franklin were fifth cousins. I mean it would be kind of nice to keep your last name...
