The Fallen Chronicles #1

Fall: The Last Testament of Lucifer Morningstar

"DSH's writing is witty, smart and precise." - Chicago Sun-Times For fans of Neil Gaiman and Steven Brust And so it came to pass in the waning days of our century that a curious deal was struck between Heaven and Hell, or more specifically between Lucifer Morning Star and the Presence. The Book of Life, that book that holds the names of those souls deemed for salvation has been stolen from the Silver City. Without the Book there can be no Judgement as foretold in the Revelation. Two renegade angels are suspect and are believed to be on Earth. For reasons known only to himself, Lucifer accepts the deal with Heaven to recover the Book of Life. But jealousy and pride are not an exclusive domain. A small band of angels lead by Mika’il, the Angel of Vengeance seeks to stop him. Accompanying the Morning Star on the most important quest in Creation are Maggie McCreedy, a recently widowed romance writer now witness to Lucifer’s Testament; Duma, a misfit angel who almost joined in the Fall; Andrew Honeybone, a not quite yet dead, but rotting lawyer, and Mr. Pouge, an enigmatic gorilla of a man. Together their journey takes them from the Silver City of Heaven to the Ninth Circle of Hell to the now desert wasteland of an earthly Eden. It is a mythical mystery tale of redemption, deceit, salvation, betrayal and faith. The Fallen Book One Next The Siege of Heaven/The Return of Cain (Book Two) Fall includes excerpts for FOUNTAIN, CLONING THE SECOND BOOK OF DANIEL, and SKIN DEEP. Praise for FOUNTAIN “DSH is a master of plot. This thing moves like a thriller. It is literally one of the best things I’ve read all year. Darkly funny… a howling success!” – Pinckney Benedict, MIRACLE BOY AND OTHER STORIES “Smart, inventive, and accomplished. There is some real comic brilliance here.” – Naeem Murr, THE PERFECT MAN Praise for CLONING THE SECOND BOOK OF DANIEL "CLONING CHRIST heralds a mercurial new talent to the page! Quirky, riveting, hilarious, disturbing, and unclassifiable (in the best sense). It is a page-turner that is at once magically realistic and completely allegorical. If Christ were cloned, as is the central conceit here, he would enjoy the hell out of this book." - Jay Bonansinga, National Bestselling Author of PINKERTON'S WAR, PERFECT VICTIM, and co-author of THE WALKING DEAD TRILOGY. Praise for [THE] VIOLENT a play in two "CRITIC'S PICK OF THE WEEK" - Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune "Men don't understand women; women don't understand men. There's nothing new here; it's a premise that has rung true since the dawn of time. But in his new play, "[The] Violent Sex," David Scott Hay builds a smart, disturbing and completely engrossing contemporary drama around this simple statement. Hay displays a biting, sarcastic wit that inflames the deep- seated confusion and unhappiness of his characters. A sort of new- generation mix of Albee-Mamet-Shepard, he lacerates relationships and lays bare the emotions and deceit that feed them. His writing is witty, smart and precise; there is not a wasted word in this play."- Mary Houlihan, Chicago Sun-Times

I like stories based on Judaeo-Christian mythology, but this one just didn't do it for me.

When the protagonist of a book is a writer, this usually rings alarm bells for me: right away, I get the sense that the characters aren't going to be very interesting, and that's how I felt about this book. Even Lucifer didn't hold my attention, and I gave up about a third of the way in.

Great stuff. I did not want this story to end...thank the goddess there are two more on the way. As usual, Mr. Hay has developed intriguing characters real enough to miss when you put the book down ...I want to hang out and have a beer with Maggie. ;)

A fun book and an easy read, even for those (like me) who don’t really have any religious knowledge

I picked this up on my kindle after having just finished "American Gods" by Neil Geimann, and Amazon.com said something to the effect of, "Readers who liked Neil Geimann also read..." and "Fall: The Last Testament of Lucifer Morningstar" was one of the suggested books in that list.

I downloaded the sample 10% on the kindle, and was intreagued, so I downloaded the book. I have been a Christian my whole life and am familiar with the story of the Creation of the world, the fall of a third of the host of heaven, and recognized many of the integral characters in the book as the same individuals I learned about during my christian upbringing.

You do not need to be a religious fanatic or gospel scholar to appreciate this story. If you are truly unfamiliar with the key players in the Creation, keep in mind that the book never explicitly discusses WHY certain characters are important, but just automatically includes them as key players in the story.

This is a very quick read, and worth the time. I look forward to the next book coming out later this fall in 2012.

It's not a walk in Eden in Heaven and not all fire and damnation in Hell. Sure, there's good up there and bad down there, but David Scott Hay shows us that the line can be and IS crossed in both worlds. My take on Heaven and Hell exploded into millions of pieces only to rebuild itself throughout the novel. A deal struck between the two worlds gave us a peek into the vulnerabilities inherent in the hearts of man, celestial or not. As always, David Scott Hay's writing is brilliant.

Not bad, good pace, ending leaves you wanting more. The narrative is a different take on a many times told story line.
