Samurai Deeper Kyo #2

Samurai Deeper Kyo, Volume 02

Rate this book

So thrilling! 🙌

The fighting and the characters- even the newly introduced ones (all the fighters) are simply amazing.
Such creativity!

Yuya is travelling with Kyoshiro through a few villages, and at every one of them they stumble over they meet chaos.

Over wrongdoings- that Yuya is hell bent on setting right. Because she is that good of a person!
She also really want the payment. 😂 #moneyhappy

This manga just screamed creativity and the different fighting techniques are badass👏

In Samurai Deeper Kyo, Volume 02, it seems that there is never a shortage of enemies for good ol' Kyo to face. Whether it be fierce old rivals or bossy, abusive women, Kyo takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!

This volume begins with Kyoshiro facing off with the looney Jimon. After the battle ends, the drama unfolds as the mysterious Okuni stirs the pot by whispering something to Kyo that sends him into a frenzy.

Later in the book, Kyoshiro and Yuya help an old lady who is being bullied by the Kidou Clan. The situation gets dicey as the San Sai Shu (Three Color Gang) get involved. Kyoshiro first faces off with the Black Scorpion. This battle shows the sillier side of Kyoshiro as he defends himself with Gumby-like abilities.

The ending leaves off on a cliffhanger with Kyoshiro fighting the Red Tiger. I'm looking forward to the next volume because I'm looking forward to the battle with White Crow, which Kyo will undoubtedly make an appearance for.

3.5/5

Second volume of Samurai Deeper Kyo holds up pretty well since the last time I read it. I had the first two volumes of this series since I was about thirteen or fourteen. From here on out, it's new territory.

The art's consistently good and the gags usually land. I do think the fanservice is a little weird with its Barbie doll anatomy, but it's not a big deal since fanservice isn't even the main focus. The plot is just a series of adventures right now while it develops some background subplots, and it does that fairly well. The dialogue is serviceable; sometimes the translation is a little flat and other times the dialogue itself is redundant (I always hate when a character describes something we just saw). On to volume 3.

I don't know. I remember liking the art style a lot more when I read this as a teenager than I do now. It might be a shift in taste or I might be remembering later volumes better than the first couple ones. Furthermore I read this way too young, this was not appropriate for me when I first read it lmao

I am doing a reread of this manga and I needed a book that didnt tank after my last read which was a huge disappointment. So tried and true manga it was! I have only read the first 5 or so volumes so this go around I am going in to finish the series! This particular volume gives you a good look into what motivates the two main characters.

Another re-read for me! This volume was even better than the first! We get to see how kick ass Yuyu is. She seriously is a bad ass. Also, one of my favorite characters is introduced in this manga: The ever lovable Benitora! He is hilarious and crazy, and I love him! Pick this series up!

This was just as silly and fun as I remember. Great cast, great villains and a genuinely heartwarming story mixed in amongst the chaos. Still one of my favourite Manga series and beautiful illustrations!

Today’s post is on Samurai Deeper Kyo Volume 2 by Akimine Kamijo. It is the second in the long manga series and you need to have read the first volume to understand the story. The cover has Kyo on it in Kyoshiro’s body with the shadow of a villain behind him. There is sexuality, strong language, and violence in this manga; older teens and adults only. The story is told from third person god point of view with character’s thoughts from time to time. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Kyoshrio, a peaceful, traveling medicine peddler, shares the same body with Demon Eyes Kyo, the legendary killer of a thousand men. Kyo’s personality only emerges when Kyoshiro’s life is threatened, which has been quite often lately.
Kyoshrio is also the captive of Yuya, a beautiful bounty hunter looking to collect on Kyo’s reward, but with another secret mission of her own.
Two strangers united by fate- each offers the other the next chance of unraveling their past.

Review- In this volume we get a look at Yuya and why she survived in Japan in 1604 on her own for years. She is a good bounty hunter. She can not only take care of herself but others too. Yuya is no fool and she has not only survived since her brother’s death but she has made a name for herself. The previous story with the exiled samurai is concluded and Yuya wants to get Kyo to talk more. Kyo is a pain in the ass but he is interesting. Kyoshiro is funny but not because he is actually humorous. Kyoshiro is funny because he is an idiot. So I will not be sorry to see less of him soon. At the end of this volume we meet another soon to be main character Benitora the Red Tiger. He will fill Kyoshiro’s shoes on the funny but be a useful fighter. With lots of fights and continuing character development the series just keeps getting better.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this book with my own money years ago.

Edit 05/18/2021:
I really seeing this world come together and to get to see Yuya in her element. That is something that gets lost in later volumes because the group start fighting people who are godlike and Yuya is just a normal in all ways so she can’t fight them on equal ground like she does in this volume with the bandits. She is the best.

Volume 2 of Samurai Deeper Kyo was perfect. I've had this manga since high school, when all I've read was manga, Harry Potter, Twilight and Maximum Ride. It has bloodshed, samurais, swords, a man named Demon Eyes Kyo almost in the middle of all of it.

This is also an anime of the same title, and I have seen it (and it was amazing). So in Volume 02 of Samurai Deeper, a fight happened between Jimon and Demon Eyes, who tells him "You just couldn't stop, could you? You got what you wanted. You woke me up. I'm in a shitty mood when I wake up. Sanurai...you do realize...you're going to die?" when he wakes up and the fight ended with Demon Eyes killing him in a simple draw of his sword (Jimon has a regular sword, and Demon Eyes has a long blade called the oadachi, in whuch he used to slay Jimon. Once that was over, Izuno no Okuni, an informer, came by and told Kyo 'He's still alive, Kyo. He lives...and he hates...you." and all of a sudden Kyo snapped, asking Izuno where this "he" person was. But like an idiot, she didn't tell him and floated away.

Then Yuya and Kyoshiro came to a village filled with children, and was pickpocketed by a little boy named Kouta, who needed to pickpocket them for money to feed his little sister, Tae. Yuya, feeling sorry for the two of them(and it reminded her of someone from her past), and asked him to help find them a place to say for the evening. Then that same night, Tae found Yuya and told her that they were going to kill Kouta. So she went and find him, and defeated the pickpocket ring, and knocked out the leader Kazura and spared her life.

The last and final story in this manga is about the Three Colored Gang and the Kidou Clan, who is pushing out all the people in the village all except a tiny old woman. They met White Crow, who gave the old woman three days to leave the village, Black Scorpion, a huge black guy who's a dingus and who talks loud. And then there's Red Tiger who looks nice, but he just have a lot of amount of strength.

Do I reconmend this book? Of course I do. It's beautiful and amazing.

Chapters 6 - 14

Boobs, boobs, and more boobs.
If you get bored at every given moment a sneaky peak at a boob, then this series definitely isn't for you.

The front cover featured Demon Eyes Kyo and he certainly looks drastically different from Kyoshiro Mibu on the front cover of volume 1.
I am thoroughly enjoying the comical side with Kyoshiro (getting fired out of a canon, accidentally perving on a naked old lady) and then the vastly different Kyo with his immense blood lust.

After the defeat of Jimon which was a battle continued over from volume 1. Izumo no Okumi unmasks a deeper anger within Kyo and his mission looking for "He".

There is a never a shortage of action in Samurai Deeper.
While Kyo is out of action, Yuya goes out of her way to protect a pair of orphan children bullied into pick pocketing by Kazura.

Not long after, Kyoshiro meets his new enemies, the Three Color Gang and their employer Genma Kidou.

It's a good continuation from the book. One thing I wish they would do is stop fighting everytime they go to a new city. It should have some downtime in the story, not action after action. I do like this series though and will be on the lookout for volume 3.

The story is a bit dull when it starts off with Yuya and Kyoshiro. But as you progress, the plot thickens and newly cast members introduced piece by piece make this manga unique and a bit of a masterpiece. There are two main story lines: 1- Yuya is looking for the man that killed her brother and 2- Kyo is searching for his true body to exact his revenge. Every other plot in between just adds fuel to the story and lets you learn of the diverse background of many characters, friends or foes. The story itself was captivating and it is a shame that many people know of this series.

The art style refined over time, giving the battle scenes flaws execution. The each character had their own torments and demons to deal with but I would have to say that certain individuals needed more evolution or better backstory. The end was well received and left no stone unturned.

I have watched the anime adaptation and I don't recommend it. It doesn't do it justice.

Do I recommend:
