Heaven On Earth #2

Brush of Angel's Wings

Rate this book
He doesn’t plan to stay Amish. She doesn’t have a plan. Then an angel draws their hearts toward God . . . and each other. A buggy-racing champion, a hardworking field-hand, and a terrible cook, Rachel Hartzler does not fit her Amish community’s standards for an eligible bride. Hurt by their rejection and still grieving the loss of her brother, Rachel is ready for change. She’s not, however, ready for Jordan Engles. Rachel’s father hired him to help tend the fields so Rachel can learn to cook and sew, thus increasing her chances of finding a husband. She can’t understand why her father doesn’t want her help and blames Jordan for trying to replace her beloved brother. Jordan plans for his time on the Michigan farm to be short. Before his mother passed away, he promised her he'd give her Amish roots a chance. Upon her death, uncertain about what else to do, he came to stay with his Uncle Isaac in Hope Falls. He's curious why his mother left the community she obviously loved. But it doesn't take Jordan long to conclude that the strict lifestyle and the three hour church services are not for him. But there isn’t just human interaction at play. Nathaniel, an angel of God, sees the potential in Jordan and Rachel’s hearts from heaven’s perspective. His goal is to shepherd them toward the path of healing and love.   When tragedy strikes, then strikes again, this angelic being is sent to guide them toward the healing and abundant life promised in God’s Word – if only they will listen.

Brush of An Angel's Wings by Ruth Reid Review

What a sweet sweet book this one is!!! I love Amish fiction and this one is quite unique as Ruth Reid includes angels surrounding the main characters and guiding them.....one a guardian angel and one a fallen angel trying to convict the main characters to doubt God and abandon faith in Him. Rachel and Joshua have many obstacles in their way. Rachel is not your typical Amish maiden. She is not a good cook....her stitches aren't always even in her sewing....she has never been asked to ride home from a singing with one of the local Amish boys. She is jealous of Joshua and fears he is replacing her father's affections for her and her dear, departed brother, James.

Joshua was raised by an Amish mother and had an absent father. He locates his father, who is still working as a long-distance trucker with the help of the rich, pretty young English girl and her cell phone. He goes on the road with his father but sees things that explain why he never had his father in his life. He is then able to make the decision he needs to make and I will leave you to read to find out what that decision is!!

I had a hard time putting this book down! It really touched my heart! It was a new twist to have the angels present and to imagine just how they might be acting at this very moment in my own life and the lives of others. Thank you, Ruth Reid, for a new perspective on the realm of angels.

‘Brush of Angel's Wings’ by Ruth Reid is possibly the best book I've
read this year. Written by a relatively new author, I was a little
scared to read this book, however, I was very pleasantly surprised.
This book isn't your typical Amish book. It is a mixture of two
genres, Amish Fiction and Angel Fiction that makes this book very
interesting.

In this book we meet two Angels, the good Angel, Nathaniel and the
evil fallen Angel Tangus who is constantly provoking Nathaniel's
wards, Rachel and Jordan. Rachel isn't your typical Amish girl. Being
the youngest daughter, unmarried and not very good at domestic skills,
she's more taken to helping out on the farm in the wake of her
brother's death since she's the only remaining child at home for her
parents. Her parents, however, have different ideas for Rachel and
hire Jordan to help out on the farm in hopes that Rachel will become
more focused on finding herself and also a good Amish husband.
Jordan, on the other hand, isn't exactly Amish. He's the son of a
shunned Amish lady whose last wish was for her son to get to know her
family, as his own father has abandoned them. When tragedy strikes
and all hope seems to be extinguished, Tangus does his best to lure
Rachel and Jordan down the path of despair. Nathaniel has not yet
given up and is determined to bring the pair to Christ.

This book was absolutely fantastic. I cried with Rachel when she
experienced overwhelming loss and I felt Jordan's sheer hopelessness.
The message of God's love and salvation being extended and the peace
that follows was wonderfully refreshing and delightful to read. It
was also interesting to see the attacks of Satan brought to life
through the dialogue of Nathaniel and Tangus. I give this book 5
stars and can't wait to go back and read the first debut novel, ‘The
Promise of an Angel’. I will certainly be on the lookout for future
releases from this Author.

Katie has lived through tragedy and heartache. But with the angel Elias by her side, the best years of her life are just ahead.
When Katie Bender’s fiancé died in a tragic accident, so did her hope of finding love.

Seth Stutzman arrived in Hope Falls days before the storm. And when he helps usher Katie and the children to safety, sparks fly. But Seth is only in town to help his brother, Amos, get back on his feet following the death of his wife. He can’t afford to have feelings for Katie.

Sworn to protect what God has ordained, the mighty angel Elias appears to them as a mysterious visitor. And with his guidance, Katie and Seth find the courage to take the first small steps toward the life, and love, they were destined for.

This is the third book in the Heaven on Earth Series, and although, I did not read the first two, I caught on to this book right away and felt right at home as I dove in and became attached to these characters and their stories.

I found myself rooting for their love, and wanting every obstacle cleared for them to be together.

This is the first book by Ms. Reid that I have read, and I found her writing to be easy to read and very engaging. I would definitely recommend this book and will certainly be checking out more books by this author!

I received this book free through Goodreads First Reads.I have not read any Amish books so was very happy to have this opportunity.I was pleasantly surprised to see the Pennsylvania Dutch Glossary at the beginning of the book. I enjoyed the fact that the author brought Christian and Amish aspects together which gave a nice blend to the story, including the interaction of the angels with the characters in the book. The author depicts the simple life where "material things" are not important. She shows the characters in the story as having great strength in the face of diversity. The love in this family binds them together as they find each other in renewed love, hope, and forgiveness. I will recommend this book to my friends! I am also interested in reading more Heaven on Earth Novels.

I absolutely loved this clean romance. It is a beautiful love story between two stubborn people who take quite a while to realize they are meant to be together. If you like to read clean romance stories, this is one of the best I've read. I finished the book in just a few days and was left in a really good mood with a big smile. Great escape from whatever isn't going quite right in your own life. Great read.

Brush with Angel's Wings was the quick, easy read I expected it to be. With love, death, friendship, and struggles between good and evil this book contains a lot of food for thought. If you like Amish fiction or books about angels this book is for you.

This book is a good reminder of the spiritual battles that take place in our minds every hour of every day and that we need to fight back and give praises and all glory to God, regardless of what the future holds. It’s a stand alone. Not a lot of memorable connections from book #1.

Rachel's brother was killed in a tragic accident. She stepped in and filled his shoes by working with her father on farm chores. Until a stranger shows up in the barn one morning. Jordan was hired by Rachel's father, to work so that Rachel could concentrate on the womanly skills of cooking and homemaking, something she showed definite deficiencies in. She was after all, getting older, and needed to find a husband. 20!

Well, she'd show him! She tries to get up earlier and do more and everything backfires on her. Jordan doesn't leave. In fact, an unexpected twist makes him more needed than ever. Throughout, Nathaniel, an angel and Tangis, a demon, speak to Rachel and Jordan in an effort to influence them.
This was skillfully written. The way Nathaniel and Tangis interacted with the characters and with each other was revealing. Spiritual truth is woven throughout. It was a very inspiring story. There were a couple of times I just wanted to tell the Rachel to cut it out and be nice. ~smile~

The unexpected twists and turns kept me turning pages. Lots of drama with other characters in the book added variety. It was quite enjoyable.

A friend (MH) sent me this book in a box of books. I did not read book 1 of the series--so it can be read as a stand-alone, though you may understand some of the character struggles better if you read book 1.

Rachel Hartzler is not the typical Amish woman. She'd rather help her father on the farm than learn things like cooking and sewing. Rachel also feels responsible for her brother's death--she hurried through chores to go to the river to look for an angel and her brother died while trying to rescue a sheep she was supposed to have secured.

Jordan has no plans to become Amish but is honoring a promise he made to his mother to spend time with her people even though he doesn't understand what his mother thinks he will find there since she chose to leave it.

Rachel's father hires Jordan to help out on the farm--and so Rachel has more time to work on skills like cooking and sewing that will help her find a husband.

There are many bumps in the road since Rachel resents Jordan taking her "place".

There are also parts of this book that remind me of C.S. Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters"--in that an angel and a fallen angel are working outside the realm of our perception to try to influence both Rachel and Jordan.

I’m going to focus on Sadie’s death after delivering her baby girl. I love Amish books, but I get upset that they don’t go to a doctor. If she would have gone to a doctor throughout her pregnancy they would have treated her toxemia and high blood pressure and she would not have died. As I read about her troubles with her pregnancy, it was serious.
That’s what made me sad. I believe these things happen more often than not in this culture.

Very well written. I as a Christian felt convicted at times of prayerlessness in areas of my life. As I read how God moved in the lives of these precious people I saw Him at work in my own heart and life. Great book!

It was ok, fairly predictable except for what happened to Sadie. I kept thinking that Katie and Timothy should have gotten married, though. I skipped reading almost all of the parts about what the bad and good angel were saying and doing; I just found it stupid.

Book 2 of the Heaven on Earth series

While not as great as book 1, this was still a good read because it still brought happiness while showing how God sends his angels to aid in times of trouble and pain.

Rachel Hartzler does not fit in her Amish community, she likes to race her horse and buggy beating the boys, she can't cook or sew like normal Amish girls, and is resigned that she will be a leddich maydel. Two years ago she was encouraged to find the Angel that Judith Fischer talked to by Kate Bender who happened to be engaged to Rachel's brother James. In her haste to go to the river, she didn't get the gate shut to the sheep pen and some got out. James was trying to catch the sheep and drowned in the river. Rachel has never forgiven Kate for encouraging her to try and find Judith's Angel. She has tried to take the place of her father's only son by doing the work James would have done, therefore she doesn't ever see herself becoming a wife or mother. Instead she is going to try to be the teacher of the new school, which is exactly what Kate wants to do also since she can't seem to move on from losing James.

Jordan Engles is not Amish but his Mother was and he is now living with his Uncle and looking for work. His father, a truck driver, left when he was very little and he never heard from him again. When Jordan's mother got cancer they lost everything trying to pay the medical bills and on her deathbed she asked him to go live with her brother to see what Amish life was like. Jordan gets hired on at the Hartzler farm which makes Rachel mad as he's taking her place helping her dad, which she see's as trying to take James' place.

Kayla Davy is a rich Englischer who brings her horse to the Hartzler's to have him shoed, when she sees Jordan she flirts with him and Rachel doesn't like that. After the horse is there a few days she comes over to ride him but Jordan tells her it's too wet and not safe, he refuses to go with her so she saddles the horse and goes by herself. Jordan jumps on the horse to go get her, then drives her home. Kayla loans him her cell phone so he can look up truck driving schools because he thinks he'd have a better chance finding his dad that way.

Jordan eventually feels his work is done at the Hartzler's so he hires on at the Davy's farm but when Micah Hartzler gets hurt and has to spend time in the hospital, Jordan returns to their farm to help out. That is until Kayla comes over to show him a text from his dad. Jordan's dad saw a message on the internet that Jordan's looking for him so he sends a text to Kayla's phone. Arrangements are made for Jordan and Clint, his father, to meet and from that meeting arrangements are mad for Jordan to go on the road with Clint.

During the time he's gone Rachel's sister Sadie, who's having a troubled pregnancy, goes into early labor, delivers baby Ella, but loses her own life. Timothy, Sadie's husband, is beside himself and Rachel takes over the care of Ella during the day and his mother stays the night caring for Ella. Rachel tries to get Timothy to spend time with his daughter but he fights her every inch of the way.

Timothy finally decides he can't care for his baby and his work so he asks Rachel to marry him. He explains that he's already gotten the Bishop's approval and they can grow to love each other. Rachel is stunned, she's dreamed about having a husband like Timothy, he loved Sadie so, was kind, caring, everything one would want in a husband, but she can't say yes. She promises to talk to her parents and pray about it.

Throughout this story there are two Angel's, Nathaniel the good Angel and Tangus the bad Angel. These Angels are both assigned to Rachel and Jordan, and they seem more like you would think of your conscious talking to you, but you don't always hear everything your conscious tells you to do and which one do you listen to?

Now you have to figure out, do Rachel and Timothy get married for Ella's sake, since Rachel promised to be there to care for her, does Jordan become a truck driver, does he stay English and return to Kayla or does he become Amish and return to Rachel, and if he returns to Rachel is it too late?

I did enjoy this book and would recommend it to anyone that likes Amish books. The focus on the Angels in this book seem more like what you would experience in your life, like your subconscious talking to you. Very enjoyable and I'm looking forward to the third book in the series Angel At Her Side coming out in January 2013.
