Initially reading this book, I was enthused in it's scientific nature, unlike most books I've already read on Odin worship and "Asatru" or "Heathenry", this book presented a very scientific and grounded view on what was essentially European history. After being told the book was pro-NAZI, I decided to look for this and see if it was true. Whomever this person that told me this was, CLEARLY has not read the book, and "judged the book by it's cover", due to a reference of Rudd Mills at the back of the book. The book does provide a very scathing view of the Abrahamic religions, specifically Christianity, however from a historical perspective, perhaps it's not that unwarranted? In any case, I found this book the "closest" so far to my own views (excluding "The Odin Brotherhood", which is more mystical in nature). The only criticisms I have, is the final few pages the author comes off as "elitist" and less than tolerant of those who practice the Abrahamic religions. My personal view is people are entitled to hold whatever views/beliefs of faith they want to, providing they are not causing harm to those who don't share those views and beliefs. This book is NOT white-supremacist and is NOT pro-Nazi.
A great book that explains a lot through the history of our Nordic people and how they came to absorb christianity. Odinism as an open evolving path that does not conflict but reassures and fuels our thirst for knowledge, adventure, discovery and does not conflict with the facts of science and reality. The nine noble virtues as a grounding compass, the love of life and the joys of our own children as a fire for our future, and men and women as team that revers each other. The complexity of the afterlife and the many paths one may take are much richer than the fixed rewards of abrahmic religions and flow in an ever evolving and unending search: the infinte is the gift. I dont agree with the conclusion that the christians, jews and muslims wont use or try to take advantage of the gifts of genetic manipulation for some prude repect to their gods laws and will. They will, and there will be ferocious fighting for who controls this technology and Im sure like with everything else they will try to keep us out of it. I got the feeling sometimes that the author thought we were already there being Odinists since its the only belief that incorporates reality to it and will take advantage of all science offers. We must always remember that this world is will to power and nothing more and how weak our position is. It will take everything we have to get there.
A Great read. It did take me a bit to finish it. I love how it teaches you so much of the history. As well as teaches you of very important people who were Odinist. It teaches you about the war that I still on going technically. As well as art and even building. It opens your mind up and teaches you everything you need to know. I will always love this book.
An exceptionally well written work on Odinism for the beginner and beyond. Osred writes in an easy style, has conducted painstaking research on his topic and above all practices what he preaches. This book will no doubt be a classic in the field in the years to come.
