This is a difficult review to write because I am trying hard not to throw the proverbial "baby out with the bath water." Henry Ward Beecher writing about the importance of honesty is comparable to Ted Bundy writing about the value of human life. HWB was a clergyman who was guilty of adultery with a friend's wife and also supported Grover Cleveland's candidacy - a rapist that became President (A Secret Life: The Lies and Scandals of President Grover Cleveland by Charles Lachman) This book is written in English from a 100+ years ago, so it is a bit difficult to read but there are nuggets of truth contained in it. "All the bankruptcies of commerce are harmless compared with a bankruptcy of public morals." "Who will fear to be a culprit when a legal sentence is the argument of pity, and the prelude of pardon?"
Started some year or so ago. Finished today with more on dishonesty and how to identify such. Greed seems to be endemic in society and as a driver of dishonesty.
