Brian, a young transplant to Los Angeles, frequents the leather bars where he meets Paul, a big, tattooed, Harley riding leather daddy who introduces Brian to the ways of a sub. Brian is instantly smitten, but then Paul travels out of town on business leaving Brian in the dark about the status of their relationship. Enter Jim, a big nurturing “Momma Bear” who helps Brian deal with his loneliness. Coincidentally, it turns out, Jim is also one of Paul’s roommates and then Jim goes out of town as well, leaving Brian with a key and a request to water Jim’s plants in his absence.
Brian is doing just that when the third roommate, Scott, appears, an overly friendly little baby bear who snuggles up to Brian immediately. Soon Brian and Scott are sharing a ‘friends with bennies’ type relationship.
It all comes to a head when Paul and Jim return home and surprise Scott and Brian in bed together. Now Brian has to make some hard choices.
Can Brian find a place in this unusual household? One that’s just right?

I shouldn't have liked this book. I shouldn't have liked this book at all...but I did. I liked it alot.
I shouldn't have liked this book because...of the slut-a-riffic main character, Brian. But I ended up liking Brian because he's not having sex just to have sex. He's a small town guy who's feeling lost in the big city. When he finally meets a big 'ol bear, Paul, that he clicks with, Paul ends up leaving. Paul leaves Brian without them defining whether they have a relationship or not. Brian's feeling lost and lonely and it's worse than ever because now he's also missing someone that he really came to care for.
When Brian meets yet another sexy bear, Jim, he responds to Jim's calming presence. Brian needs to not feel so alone and he doesn't feel so adrift when he's with Jim. The problem is that after a few weeks, Jim leaves as well. Again, Brian's left to himself and my heart kind of broke for him. He wants someone to love and to love him. He wants a relationship but the guys he cares for keep leaving for no good reason.
The third bear, Scott the bisexual bottom, is a carefree spirit who doesn't do monogamy. He's fun and makes Brian smile. Scott doesn't leave but it turns out these three bears are roommates. When Jim and Paul turn up again everyone has to make a choice and decide how they're going to make the situation work.
So, yeah, Brian was a tad bit slutty but there were reasons behind it. He was a terrific character that bounced and tee-hee'd and generally made me want to put him in my pocket.
I shouldn't have liked this book because...of the use of the word daddy. But I ended up not minding the way Brian called Paul "Daddy" because it wasn't used in a creepy way. Brian needs someone to care for him. He needs to be mastered and feel safe. The way he called Paul "Daddy" was really the same way some people call their lover master. It didn't come across as incestuous. It was a D/s relationship and that was quite clear in the way Paul and Brian interacted. Brian and Paul were sweet together and both got what they needed emotionally out of the relationship. I completely understood the dynamic there and it made me smile.
I shouldn't have liked this book because...of the group sex. But the group sex didn't bother me because it wasn't just about sex for these guys. Brian, Paul, Jim and Scott cared about each other. By the end of the book I felt like the four of them belonged together forever. The all loved each other in a way that was really adorable to read about. They found family in each other and while it wasn't a traditional situation it was the perfect situation for the four of them. They all nurtured each other and it was so nice to read about.
Maybe this book should have pushed alot of my "hell no" buttons but it ended up pushing alot of my "love it" buttons. It's a light book but not in the sense that it's straight fluff. It's light in that it left me feeling happy. I recommend.
Do you like bears and daddys? I do not and this book is filled with hairy muscled bear sex with young boy, who is as slutty as is possible in such novels. Brian was searching for his dream bear and got not just one but three. The book is filled with sex scenes which are not hot I do not like them big and hairy and sweaty. The plot is not the point of this book, the point is sex.
He met Paul (say, his first Daddy, first love, first fuck), then Daddy went away for a few months, he met Jim (Momma Bear), apparently Jim is Paul's house mate. Brian didn't care, he just need a fuck, and it's not like Paul said anything about exclusivity, right?
So, after few weeks with Jim, Jim went out of town for business. He met Scott after that. Then, he fucked Scott. You know who Scott is? LOL. Go figure.
Seemed that Goldilocks found his three bears anyway. But his true love is Paul.
It was a right time when I read this. So, yeah, it's a yummy book with kink, and swing...and swing. And Brian felt he's so lucky. :)
Oh, and it was raining when I read this. Grins.
So, rain, nice comfort bed, steamy as fuck book about Goldilocks and his three bears...Nice.
I’m one of the many that bought this book when it was published previously but for whatever reason never got around to reading it. So when I got it from Loose Id, I realized it was re-released but definitely worth getting. It’s a very cute story about a polyamorous relationship and it’s one that really works. I’m not always a fan of multiple partner books but this one is so cute, adorable, warm, and very entertaining. It’s just simply works as a great story and one that’s likely to leave you with a satisfied smile.
The plot is obviously a take on the children’s tale but updated and pretty kinky. It involves the main narrator, Brian, as Goldilocks. He’s lost in the big city of LA and makes a connection with a big leather daddy, Paul. Together things are going great until Paul mentions he’ll be out of town for a few months. Unsure where that leaves them Brian is hurt and wandering until he meets nurturing momma bear or Jim. Jim is Paul’s roommate but manages to help ease Brian’s hurt rather well until Jim takes off too. Brian then gets to know the third roommate, Scott.
The story is very sweet and highly amusing as Brian bounces his way through the three roommates. There’s no question though that his deepest connection is with Paul. Later on in the story Scott and Jim also make a deep connection and at the very end there’s a nice scene between the four of them. Multiple partner romances are a tough sell and Riley does a great job of showing individual personalities and how coming together as two couples and eventually a foursome really enhance each person’s needs. Each individual brings something unique and different to the mix while genuinely caring about each other. This is why this particular book succeeds where many others have stumbled.
Another reason is the great characterization. This area is a little light given the short space afforded but each man feels unique and different, moving beyond typical stereotypes. They feel fleshed out and important on their own and in the various relationships. The fact that Brian/Paul and Scott/Jim each have a deep connection helps solidify the romantic connections while as a larger group; they’re just enjoying each other and having fun. It feels like a family – albeit a kinky one.
The writing is pretty tight with a lot of lighthearted energy. This isn’t a laugh out loud humorous story but it’s one that amuses from the start and keep you smiling. The characters are entertaining but more so engaging as they figure out what they want and how to get it. The various sex scenes and especially the BDSM elements feel organic and necessary, never overwhelming or superfluous. In fact this is a tight, well-written novella that is fun and easy to read. It’s very different from Riley’s other novels but one I think fans and new readers alike will really appreciate. I easily recommend this and it’s one I’ll be reading again.
I don't even remember how I ran across this title. I do remember, however, howling out loud at the description and knowing that this was a story I absolutely had to read. I'm a red-blooded woman and I like leather daddies just as much as the next guy. The thought of one little twink with a daddy bear, a mamma bear, and a baby bear just intrigued the heck out of me and I was dying to dive into the story.
Brian is feeling pretty lost in the Big Bad Woods of Los Angeles until he meets Paul, a big, burly, inked leather daddy bear. They have a couple of weeks of fun, and a little bondage intro, and Brian isn't feeling so lonely anymore, until Daddy leaves for business and might be gone several months. Sucky! Then Brian meets Jim. Or, more accurately, Jim saves Brian when Brian accidentally knocks a bunch of guys' motorcycles over. Yikes! The next thing Brian knows he's hanging with Momma in his van sharing a doobie and some wicked sex. They meet up here and there and finally Momma takes Brian back to his place. Which turns out to be Daddy's place. Huh. Then Momma has to go but gives Brian a key and asks him if he wouldn't mind watering his marijuana plants while Momma is gone. That's how Brian is in the house when he meets, Scott, the truck driver roommate and baby bear. What follows could be due to an unholy amount of Twinkies that Brian has eaten. And, that's how Brian wakes up naked with Scott and Paul and Jim standing over the bed.
It takes a little doing, some compromise and understanding, but in the end Brian gets what he wants. Paul, his daddy, the ultimate top, with a hard futon bed. Jim, momma bear, the gentle sweet guy who grows his own weed. And, Scott, the bouncy younger bear who likes to bottom and doesn't take much seriously. This is an absolutely adorable story that is very tender and loving when you look deep enough. It also has a pretty good underlying message about how to treat people. I'm so excited that I found it and I'm totally looking forward to the next one so I can see more into their relationships.
Thanks to a very kind friend, Christmas came early for me and I recently found myself in possession of a crapton of m/m ebooks. Yea, the angels did sing a chorus of hallelujahs and I squeed like a rabid fangirl. This was the first story I read out of the plethora of reads. Please keep in mind that while I love me some m/m action, I've got girl cooties and this review is from the viewpoint of someone with a kitty.
This was a fun little story about a cute little twink named Brian who has a fascination for, you guessed it, bears. Brian meets Paul, his ideal leather Daddy, at the local bar/club and they fall into a relationship of sorts. Until Daddy leaves on a business trip for his chopper business that will keep him on the road for several months. Then the withdrawals from fantastic sex kick in (don't you hate it when that happens?). Brian is wandering, lonely as a cloud, when he meets Momma Bear.
Yes, Jim is called Momma Bear. A very large, very hairy bear with a gentle, caring way about him and a cock that's as wide as a soda can. *blinks* I'm not sure I want to go there. Anyway. They hook up in Jim's van a few times and then Momma Bear finally takes our twink back to his place. And guess what? It's the same house Daddy lives in. Yep, these bears are roomies. Niiiiice. Things are going swimmingly when suddenly, Momma takes off for parts unknown, asking Brian to water his pot garden while he's away.
And that's when we meet the third bear, Scott. I don't think he had a nickname, so I'm gonna call him Sweetie. He's a shorter bisexual Southern gent with an oral fixation who loves to bottom. It was nice to mix things up a bit for Brian. And guess what? Sweetie is the third roomie in Daddy and Momma's house! Daddy and Momma finally come home, catch Brian in bed with Sweetie and things progress from there. Yummy.
Back story sorted. While this could easily be the plot of a cheap porn, there was, in fact, a lovely story and character development. Not so much with our main character though. That's not to say Brian and Paul are just your stereotypical twink and daddy couple. They have their conflicts and growth (other than that kind) and end up being better with each other than they were alone. But Jim and Scott kinda stole the story half way through. The past issues Jim has and Scott's loneliness and concern (even fright) about the direction Paul and Brian's relationship takes move this from a simple work of erotic fiction to a nice little bit of erotic romance.
Why only 3 stars? While some of the play sounded fun, I'm just not one for bears (though some hair is always a good thing) or a daddy complex. When I say "Daddy" I think about the man my mother married. And there's no faster way to kill a sexual buzz than to think about your own parents. *shudders*
This was a fast, fun read and I'll be picking up more books by Riley.
This book was lovely. I think the first part was better than the last, because the repetition of the meeting of Brian (cute young man who arrived in LA, he's a little lost, a little lonely and little slutty) with the three bears has the hypnotic rhythm of the fairy tale. I think this was a little lost after the second half of the book, where the story becomes more traditional - traditional in the broadest meaning of the word. I also think that the book would have been more interesting with only Brian/Goldilock's point of view.
The book is very funny and it made me laugh out loud a few times - and I can't help laughing recalling a few lines right now. I am not a fan of the daddy dynamics, but the light tone of the story made it special, especially because it worked with Brian's situation and his need of someone to love him. I also liked the way the three bears were supportive of him and really helped him, letting him be himself.
All the characters were sweet and kinky and it's an incredibly charming combination. Highly recommended!
Pleasantly surprised by this book. I was just excepting sex scene after sex scene - and don't get me wrong there was plenty of that - but there a little bit of story too. Overall, I thought this was an enjoyable polyamorous re-telling of Goldilocks, with quite a few sweet and funny moments.
This one is a little funny jewel, I needed to stop reading it to go out dinner with a friend and I spent almost all the time trying to retelling all the funny scenes I read.
Brian is a walking trouble. Pretty, cute and innocent, he is a small-town guy who finds himself in big-city and feels empty and lonely. Young and without the money to go college he works as clerk in a food store and meanwhile browse the gay club trying to fill the void in his life. No string attach relationships don't help him and so when he meets Paul it's like a dream. A classical Leather Daddy bear, Paul is a control freak: his life, his home, even his relationships are perfect and "straight", exactly what Brian needs. After a while they seems to have found a routine and Brian is happy like a fish in his bowl. But then Paul has to leave town for work and he will be gone for six months. Brian risks to fall again in his unsteady status, when he meets Jim, another bear, but this time more the feed and caring type, and in fact his nickname is Momma Bear. Brian clings to Jim like a baby to his teddy bear, and when he discovers that Jim is also the roommate of Paul, he freaks a little, but then Paul is away and he really needs the comfort he finds in Jim's embrace. But Jim is a free spirit, he arrives and goes as the wind and when he needs to go he goes. He asks Brian to water the plants, and so Brian has at least the chance to be in the house where Paul and Jim made him so happy. After some weeks arrives Scott, the third (and last!) roommate: a ball of energy and more a pal friend than a lover, Scott fills a bit the void left by Paul and Jim. But when Brian awakes in bed with Scott and with Paul and Jim glaring over him, he knows that he needs to take some important decisions...
A funny and a bit porn retelling of the Goldilocks and the Three Bears fable, the roles are pretty clear: Daddy Bear is Paul, the more steady and controlled of all the group, he is the one to whom all of them relate when important steps need to be take; Momma Bear is Jim, big heart and big body, he is the gentle and comforting touch in the group, always ready to listen and always available to dispense big hugs; Little Bear is Scott, full of energy, happy-go-live man, maybe not just fully grown, a bear in training. All of them together fill all the demands of Brian, who need a crowded family to never again suffer from loneliness: fantastic the description of when Brian bounces having eat too much chocolate...
Of course it's a foursome, but of course, like always when the bed is a bit crowded, different bonds will form between the men, some strong and some weaker, some true love and some a friend with benefits type of relationship.
A.M. Riley is very good in giving to all the men a deeply and complete characterization and even if all turns around Brian, no one of the other bears remain without a personality. It would be wonderful if something like that could really happen in real life, since the home these four men build together is an happy haven and a place where love and comfort and joyous sex reign.
The description of this really doesn't do this book justice. This was such a fun read.
Brian a.k.a. Goldilocks is new to town and feeling like he is insignificant until he meets Paul.
And then that vision from Olympus looked down and noticed Brian's measly self. "Hi there," he said, in one of those voices that carries across a room full of noise. And he simply reached out and fondled Brian's head, his big fingers gentle in the curls. "Aren't you a pretty little thing."
Paul travels a good portion of the year and before he knows it Brian is left alone. No letters, no calls. Then Brian meets Jim.
"Name's Jim," said the man who didn't seem about to relinquish Brian anytime soon. "The boys call me Momma Bear, though." "Brian. Thanks for saving my life." Jim laughed, a big Santa Claus laugh. Ho ho ho. It made Brian tingle all over in a nice way. "Don't mention it man. Where you headed?" Brian shrugged. "No place, just walking." "You get high?"
Brian is floored after weeks into seeing Jim when he finds out that Jim is Paul's roommate. No letters, no calls from Paul and Jim looks at Brian with warm happy eyes. All too soon Jim announces that he has to go and asks Brian if you would water his 'plants' and before he knows it, Brian is left alone again.
Bounce bounce bounce. "Hi!" he said brightly to the man who came through the front door. Wow. Only about five feet seven but built; the man was a fucking boulder standing there in front of him. Pretty, honey-colored eyes below straw-colored eyebrows. The man grinned, his tanned face full of white teeth. "Well, hi yerself, Goldilocks. You sure don't resemble either one of my roommates."
Bear number three, Scott, like an eager puppy dog in wiggly enthusiasm. But can any of them stay away. How does this work. Where do they fit? This is liberally peppered with humor as these four figure out this unconventional relationship and handle growing pains as they all change.
Even though it felt like Brian kept getting left without any words of commitment I couldn’t help but like Paul and Jim. Brian and his sweets gave me a sugar high just reading it. I will not look at a box of Twinkies without thinking “Bounce bounce bounce.” I laughed out loud throughout this but I have to say that the first meeting with Mamma Bear is my favorite. There is something about sweet Jim. A definite reread for a fun pick me up.
Warning for my friends-This is a foursome. They are monogamous with each other but dynamics are unconventional. No fantastical sex scenes or hard core BDSM. There is one scene of a flogging but the description is light and internalized, the experience is brief without giving gratuitous descriptions.
This dick is too hard. This dick is too soft; this dick is just right! No, this isn't your usual re-interpretation of Goldilocks and the three bears. The three bears are all different and very attractive men. In fact, the only thing that is too hard, too soft and just right is the bed of each bear. Their dicks on the other hand are all perfect.
Brian is the cute as a button little Goldilocks. He falls for Paul, Daddy Bear, after a whirlwind fuckfest. By accident, he meets Jim, Momma Bear, while Daddy is gone for months on a business trip. Lastly, while watering plants for Momma bear, he accidentally falls on baby bear's dildo. Oops. Brian is a naughty naughty boy.
Baby bear is actually Scott who is just a bundle of joy and energy. The gig is up when Daddy and Momma show up from their trips and discover the shenanigans of Brian. None of them knew about each other and all three find out because they are roommates. I say Brian is in a need for a spanking. Fortunately, Daddy obliges.
The four men become sexually involved in a very hot way. I enjoyed the BDSM play. The D/s between Paul and Brian made my panties wet. When Scott finally succumbs to bondage/dominance play with Jim, I nearly levitated off my couch in ecstasy. Not everything is rainbow and sunshine. For four men to be able to work their relationship on a daily basis, it takes work. There are some ups and downs in the story. These added to my enjoyment of this kinky romance.
I recommend this story to m/m romance lovers who enjoy some hot kinky poly sex.
Brian likes his men big and hairy. Being new to L. A. and lonely, he ventures into a leather bar where he meets Paul. The two go back to Paul's place where they enjoy themselves as Paul's roommates are away. Brian sees his big daddy, Paul every night until Paul tells Brian that he has to leave for a few months. Brian is crushed but soon rebounds with Jim. Another big bear, Jim turns out to be one of Paul's roommates. Brian is really hurt and confused when Jim has to go away for a while. As you can guess, Brian meets the third roommate, Scott. Brian and Scott are in bed together when both Paul and Jim return home. What's a guy to do but take on all three men in a fun menage but falling in love with his daddy Paul. Brian and Paul get into their own BDSM thing which strains the menage to a point. This story is heavy on the sex and fairly light on plot. If you're into bears, you'll love this story.
This was much better than I was expecting. Pretty hot too. It had a lot of safety, condoms, safewords, protective, and making sure everyone was on the same page. Failed on proper use of condoms. But that's okay. I'm not a stickler for safe sex in books (they are supposed to be fantasy)....just an observation when there was a big effort towards protection.
This was sweet, funny, and really had more story than I thought it would. And I think I'm officially over the word "Daddy". I didn't even cringe the last couple books. (alright...I'm okay when it's m/m, still thin I'll shudder when it's in m/f)
What a romp in the park! This is so unlike any other of AMR's: light, silly. (bounce!). Using a voice that a fairy tale might (no deep analysis, even the angst gets a light touch), AMR still manages to tell a serious story inside the sexy fun. Very 'guy'ish, too, with hairy bears, which is a refreshing change from the usual 'made for us gals' m/m.
Read this one for smiles, and to remind you that life is too short to take seriously all of the time.
I'm sure glad that Loose ID reissued this, I'd been trying to figure out how to get my hands on a copy for a while.
This was so cute, and I absolutely loved all the characters! I was worried about the dynamics of the menage relationship at first, but I like the way it all worked out. It also left me excited about reading the sequel because I really want to see the continued development of their relationship.
Edit: This is a review for the newer version from Loose-Id. I believe it's been re-edited and more stuff was added to it.
This was a fun, tongue-in-cheek, hot and steamy retelling of Goldilocks and the three bears. Very easily read and very enjoyable. Brian has sex with all three bears in different constellations, some readers might consider it "cheating"...
The book did try to go a bit deeper with a few issues, but that didn't really work for me. But the main storyline I enjoyed. Lots of fun.
Liked this better on re-read, but I'm not sure if that's a commentary on the lack of good BDSM books ATM. This depicts a polyamourous relationship between four men, with two primary couplings, based on very loving BDSM. Teensy plot, mostly smexin'. Enjoyable and sweet.
Brian is new to LA and has found solace in one of the leather bars. One night he meets Paul, a big tattooed leather Daddy and they start up an exclusive relationship. Paul has roommates who are never home and things are going well, when Paul has to leave for several months for his job, and he never makes a commitment to Brian. He's hurt Paul left, but he meets Jim, a bit of a pot-head and they start a relationship, when Jim finally takes him home, holy hell, it's Paul's house. Then before long, just when Brian is getting attached, Jim disappears and asks Brian to water his pot plants. One day, Scott, the third roommate shows up and before long they are having fun, when, oops, Paul and Jim come home and find him in bed with Scott. Brian feels guilty and yet Paul never even discussed their relationship, nor did Jim. Before long they are all in bed together, however things can be a bit awkward and before long Jim and Scott have some kind of complicated thing going on, and what does that means for all of them. I liked that it wasn't just "easy", that everyone fell into bed and la la la, life is perfect. It was complicated and messy and confusing at times, and I think it naturally made sense that they tended to pair off with play-time still between all four. And the fact that Scott didn't get the D/s relationship between Paul and Brian, and felt it was abusive, so they had to try and explain to him how it worked for Brian, was an interesting twist. If you only like your two main heroes together then this isn't for you, but I think this was an interesting portrayal of a semi-open (polyamorous to an extent) relationship with three very different bears who all offered Brian something different that made a complete relationship for him. I quite enjoyed the complexity.
i have to give this a 4.5... i came across this on a goodreads lending page...the title interested me then i saw the cover and was intrigued immediately...i thought it would be like a spin off of the actual children's story of goldilocks and the three bears...some similarities but not too many...i've never really been a fan of threesomes or multiple partners but throw in that and the dom/sub storyline and it totally worked for me...Brian is a total spaz and my imagination was running wild with images of him bouncing around after he indulged in his sugar addiction...Paul is one sexy mofo with his physique and tatts all over the place and i totally was in love with Brian calling him daddy (sigh)...Jim is a fav of mine (we both like to get our smoke on) and i can totally pic him chillin in his fan smokin a fatty stroking his beard...and Scott is adorable... a total cock whore... i loved the story and i really loved how the author developed their relationships...They all have strong personalities and i like how the author took that seriously and their quirks and concerns regarding their new foursome was taken seriously...Paul and Brian are a couple and Scott and Jim gravitate towards each other...I love Brian and and Paul's dom/sub relationship...how they learn to trust each other and explore the dom side...i haven't read too many books that have the dom/sub theme but this one as well as A.J. Rose's Power Exchange series really floated my boat...I am continuing the story of Goldilocks with the author's sequel and I am just as engaged in that...I am totally enjoying this experience and not taking everything too seriously...
I liked it at first, the idea of Bryan meting the three men separately and then being with all of them was cute, but then two things were introduced in the plot and the book plummeted for me.
Drug-harvest and mild BDSM, Bryan was too wicked for me.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is a smut-a-thon which generated mixed emotions...mainly 'cos the main character is a slut... But still it's written in such a way that one can't help but like it... I'm not a fan of main characters sleeping around but somehow i ended up not minding it in this one...
DNF @65% It was good fun. But I couldn't jive with the "I need a flogger to feel free" bit that cropped up so... (But that's me...BDSM is largely a no go for me)
Nice, light-ish read that has that bit of depth that makes it interesting. I like the way Riley played off the original Goldilocks story, even if it DOES get a little dumb-blond-y at times.
I expected this to be just about sex, but as it turns out it's about so much more. It's about love, and loss, and joy, and relationships, and need, and kink, and more love, and laughter, and...yeah okay, and so much fucking.
Which isn't surprising, since this is listed as erotica, but the strangest thing happened: At some point I stopped noticing all the sex (except in a oh that's nice, it means they're happy way,) and focused instead on these four lovely men and how they work things out between them. Pretty impressive for such a short story.
This book has several dynamics in play, but for a short book of less than 100 pages, it still feels complete. While the main character is Brian, his relationships with Paul, Jim and Scott is well developed. There is another relationship in play- the one between Scott and Jim and that too is as developed as it can be within 100 pages.
