It's All About Him

Rate this book
Following the premature death of her parents, 19-year-old Dee Hewson puts her college plans on hold to go travelling with her boyfriend, Neil. All goes well until they reach Las Vegas, where Neil develops a dangerous addiction to gambling. After two years of their rootless, nomadic existence, Dee awakes to find Neil gone, along with her credit cards, the diamond ring he'd bought her in San Francisco and her father's watch. Devastated, Dee returns to the family home in Dublin to pick up the pieces of her old life. Still in shock at what happened, the discovery that she's also pregnant is the icing on the cake. But baby Sam turns out to be the one positive thing to come out of Dee's relationship with Neil. After trying and failing at a number of part-time jobs, Dee discovers a talent for cooking and eventually sets up her own catering business, finally daring to find love again with the steadfast Conor Fitzgerald. But the publicity generated by her success has an unwelcome side-effect: the return of the feckless Neil. Amazed and delighted to discover he's a father, Neil wants to be a part of Sam's life. Dee feels she has no choice but to agree. Surely having his dad in his life can only be a good thing for Sam. Or can it?

A wonderfully warm book which follows the relationships between friends and family while dealing with the difficulties of parenthood, running a business and everything else which life throws at us. Colette is a superb storyteller with a real understanding of life. At the end of it all, you feel like you know the characters so well, it's quite sad to part with them! So, bung a load of veg in the slow cooker, put your phone on silent and escape to a little town outside of Dublin for a few hours!

Really looking forward to reading all of her other novels.

Urgh. Very cliched plot and characters. A real no plot kind of slow book. Dee was so irritating at the beginning and OTT about her son’s “illnesses”. He’s a fine happy kid with a bit of mild eczema and asthma that’s well controlled, just with a very controlling mother.
Maybe it should be 1 star. But I did finish it and it was easy enough to read when I wasn’t rolling my eyes.

This was an enjoyable read although I did find a couple of the characters a touch annoying.

Naff, predictable, too cute to be true. Waited the whole book for something to happen. Nothing like Marian Keyes, despite what it says on the cover.

A book that is very easy to read, but does not offer much. Likeable, but dry characters and not an engaging story.
Written in rather sleepy manner which makes me feel like walking on a long road with two concrete walls on either side.

The good thing is that i did learn a new thing: To get the salt content on foods labeled as containing sodium, you must multiply Sodium by four and you get the Salt content. Cheeky monkeys these food producters, labeling food.
The rest didnt offer me anything new to learn and i would not recommend it as a good read.

I think this book is over-rated. I checked the rating here and ordered the book. However it turned out to be unneccesarily long, easy but empty read. I liked that it does not merely tells about love affairs as other "pink" books. Book has a warm tone. Yet after reading 500 something pages what is left? "Dee cooks well and we should be catious about food labeling."

Ho hum book. It was in the vein of chick lit, but not as engaging as Maeve Binchey or Sophia kinsella. The main character annoyed me and felt forced.
I slogged through it , but did finish it.

I liked it, but only because I have a young son I had on my own,so I could relate to a few things. The main charter Dee, was very annoying at times in my opinion. It just felt hard to like her.

Kitabın ilk yarısında baya sıkıldım.Bunun sebebi benim okuma isteksizliğim de olabilir...
Ama ikinci yarısı daha iyiydi. En azından merakımı cezbetti konu.
Başlarda ki kararsızlık, belirsizlik duygusunu sevmedim...
ama dediğim gibi ruh halimden de olabilir...
Birde Lisa ve Freddy'i daha detaylı okusaydık dedim...
Sevimli bir şeyler okumak iyi olurdu :)
