Ja… das hier hatte nette Bilder und Infos, aber sowohl der deutsche als auch originale französische Titel ist "Babys in den Kulturen der Welt" und dennoch haben sie nur Babies der zweiten und dritten Welt und scheinbar je "exotischer", desto besser. Und oft im Gegensatz zu den "westlichen" Babies welche scheinbar alle gleich behandelt werden.
Das macht dieses Buch recht zweifelhaft.

Yeah this has nice pictures and info, but both the german and original french title is called "babys in the cultures of the world" and yet they have only second and third world babies and apparently the more "exotic" the better. And often in contrast to "western" babies who apparently are all treated alike.
That makes this book quite questionable.

This book wasn't exactly what I had expected. It was anthropologists and field photographers explaining various traditions surrounding baby care. It was more scholarly and clinical and less "awwww, babies."

I was surprised at how many cultures paint their babies' faces as a means of superstitious protection.

Vor über 20 Jahren habe ich dieses Buch mit meinen Kindern gelesen. Es ist exzellent, weil es anschaulich zeigt, wie Kinder außerhalb der sogenannten westlichen Kulturen getragen, gewaschen, ernährt, geschützt, gepflegt und erzogen werden. Damit meine Kinder stets eine sachliche Antwort auf ihre Fragen erhielten, habe ich vorher die jeweilige Einführung zu den sehr schönen Bildern gelesen. Für Eltern, die die französische Sprache nicht beherrschen, gibt es eine englische Übersetzung unter dem Titel Babies Celebrated. Vor kurzem habe ich das Buch noch einmal mit meiner jüngsten Tochter kontemplativ wiederentdeckt. Die Zeitlosigkeit dieses Buches macht es auch heute noch lesenswert.

I loved all the photographs in this book- but unfortunately, reading about all of the superstitions of various tribal peoples was very disturbing. I had nightmares about spirits coming to steal away my three-month-old baby. Maybe now wasn't the best time to try this book!
