Just before my 65th birthday I stood at a magazine rack at the airport waiting to board. The rack included all the usual topics; politics, music, sports, crafts, home beautification and business. Then the clouds parted and the angels sang. Entrepreneur magazine had a cover that screamed ‘500 best franchises!’
I bought the magazine and barely even noticed that we had taken off and that we were in the clouds.

Over the years this topic had vaguely interested me but not enough to even buy a magazine let alone read a book like this one about owning a franchise. I am not sure I will buy a franchise or any other kind of business.
What so far I have figured out is that as I approach what formerly had been the mandatory retirement age, I don’t want to stop working. I may never want to ‘retire’.

The exclamation point at the end of the title captures the self promotional flavor of Mr. Libava’s prose. That said, this was a good first book for me to read about franchising as it throws significant cold water in the idea. The author offers an opportunity for the reader to do serious soul searching. This endeavor isn’t a panacea and will require me to work very hard at a time in life when most people are slowing down. I plan to go slow on the next steps and see where they take me. Maybe I’ll avoid visiting magazine racks in the future before getting on a plane.

TLDR: Different franchises make sense for different kinds of personalities. An interesting guide to the business.

The key is not everyone is suitable for the franchise concept. You've got to match your knowledge, skills, interest, and abilities with the franchise concept you are interested in.

It book is a lot of self promoting but it does have some excellent information in it. Completely worth the read.
