Are you a woman getting on with shaping your surroundings - in the office, at church, in your local community? Do you ever feel unsupported and unequipped? Do you sometimes doubt your calling? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, INFLUENTIAL is for you. In it Jo Saxton unpacks biblical principles on leadership, interviews women who lead in different situations and contexts, asks the deepest, most difficult questions, and gives all sorts of practical ideas for how to be a woman of influence - wherever you are.
I enjoyed reading this book. The studies of Bible characters, particularly Eve, enabled me to see myself as a woman of God who was designed to be an equal in taking responsibility for the world around me.
I liked the style, the examples and the quotes from other people. I found it empowering without coming across as angry or resentful at men. It inspired me to take my influence seriously and be a better role model.
What an incredibly encouraging and challenging book on leadership - particularly for women. Saxton has a great writing style - easily accessible and with a wonderful balance between theory and practices. Perhaps what I found most unique about this book is its refusal to lay out a template for women in leadership (other than to emphasise the importance of character and a reliance on God). Instead, Jo recognises the miriad of ways women can find themselves in leadership, and the addition of added advise from a vast range of women illustrates this. Highly recommended for anyone wishing to be intentional with their influence and follow their God-given calling well.
What an excellent book on being a Christian leader - mostly for women, but also applicable to men. I have given it to two friends to read as well, as I think it's really worth it.
Generally a good book and it is one that I would recommend. It's extremely accessible which to be honest is probably why it's only got 3 stars from me - I would have liked something deeper/more academic but I understand that this isn't what Saxton was trying to do. I will be lending it to my sister, as I do think it's worth reading.
