A Miracle Named Mark : The True Story of Mark J. Hublar Paperback Greg Hublar

Rate this book
The decision that Alfred T. Hublar Jr. and Mary Linda Hublar had to unexpectedly make on September 1st, 1964 was really no decision at all. With the end of another successful pregnancy now at hand, they were filled with excitement and more than ready to meet their next child. Other than a little less movement on the inside than what she experienced with her first pregnancy, everything appeared to be going as expected. Linda was ready and it was finally time. However, neither Alfred nor Linda could have ever imagined how their world was about to be rocked to its core. Nothing and no one could have prepared them for the callous and cold words that would come from the mouths of the medical professionals who had just delivered Mark. And in a flash of disbelief, all their hopes, dreams, and aspirations, that only moments before seemed such a certainty, vanished in an instant. There was no way for this young couple to have known, or to have had any idea of the journey that had just begun at that very moment. A journey that was not even believed to be possible by any in the medical field at the time, or anywhere else for that matter. A journey that would break down barriers, change minds, warm hearts, and inspire tens of thousands across the country. A journey that was God-Ordained and destined to accomplish His will. A journey had begun that would so exceed what was believed to even be possible, that this story had to be told. A story of Love. A story of Faith. A story of Hope. A story of Perseverance. And a story of a Man who would overcome the impossible to not only fulfill his God-given potential but one who would go on to travel the country advocating for others while helping them find hope to reach their full potential. But to truly attempt to understand this Journey, we must first start at the beginning.

The book is a labor of love and admiration for an older brother. Mark Hublar was born with Down Syndrome at a time when many people with Downs were being institutionalized. He was loved, involved in family activities like his brothers, and clearly responded positively. The book is big on family, love, and Jesus. I would have rather read about Mark's journey and skipped his extended family, but I guess that extended family is what enabled Mark to develop into the loving, warm, perceptive man, and motivating advocate he is.
