Destiny Calls

Rate this book
Patrick didn’t think it would be a big deal to kiss his best friend Brandon. Hell, they’d done crazier things to avoid a bar fight. He was totally unprepared to be wildly turned on, the kiss opening up new avenues of pleasure he’d never dreamt of—Patrick, after all, was straight, even if Brandon wasn’t. Destiny’s never been afraid to ask for what she wants. When she sees Patrick and Brandon together, she knows exactly what she wants—the three of them in bed together, preferably with her in the middle of a hot, naked-man sandwich with her two best friends. When Brandon finds himself hunted by an unknown enemy, the three friends find themselves fighting for their lives—and their hearts.

Samantha Wayland

Samantha Wayland has three great loves in life; her family, writing books, and hockey. She is often found apologizing to the first for how much time and attention is taken up by the latter two, but they forgive her because they are awesome and she clearly doesn’t deserve them.

Sam lives with her family -- of both the two and four-legged variety -- outside of Boston. She is a wicked passionate New Englander (born and raised) who has been known to wax rhapsodic about the Maine Coast, the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, and the sensible way in which her local brethren don’t see a need for directional signals (blinkahs!).

Her favorite things include mango martinis, tiny Chihuahuas with big attitude problems, and the Oxford comma.

Destiny Calls has a very high average rating, therefore it's probably me and not the book, so don't mind my little Baba rant. I will refrain from writing a synopsis because I prefer to get down to business right away.

Plenty of things ticked me off. Here we go…

The repetitiveness of:

Oh fu@k. Oh my god.
Holy fu@king shit.
Jesus H. Christ.
Jesus
Sweet Jesus
Sweet fu@king Jesus
Holy Jesus
Sweet Jesus, Mary and Joseph
for being 'into freaky Jesus shit'
You walk with Jesus
for Christ's sake
Jesus Christ
Christ
Holy Christ
Thank Christ
Good Christ Almighty
For Christ's sweet sake
Christ on a crutch

NOT. *sigh* Please, please spare me. This is overkill. *rolls eyes*

Patrick's transition from acting freaked out to really wanting Brandon was kind of astounding, to say the least. Whew. Now that was a speedy decision and so not believable.

Finally Patrick's co@k slid free of the confining cotton and Brandon's eyes locked onto it, his brain came to a grinding halt.
Whoa.
Brandon knew his mouth hung open, but he couldn't help it. He'd never seen anything like it. His gaze was riveted on the longest, thickest co@k he'd ever seen.
Whoa.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Think about taking it up your ass, Brandon. *rolls eyes again*

Holy fu@king shit.
(…)
Patrick stood close in the tight space, checking his gun and tightening the straps on his Kevlar vest. The pull of Patrick's tight shirt over thick muscle caught Brandon's attention. The shoulder holster made Patrick's already impressive chest seem impossibly wide and for a moment, he just stared.
Patrick cleared his throat and Brandon winced, looking up to find Patrick looking decidedly amused. Christ, he'd just been caught drooling over his partner at a police raid. Time to get a grip.

Yes, Brandon, that's a very good idea. Your staring contest could be deadly.

Thick-muscled strength through his shoulders and down his flanks, across his tightly ridged belly and into his thighs. He was just a really big, strong man. And he had the big, thick co@k to go with it.

So, yeah, you see I've had to deal with really massive erections and really, really big co@ks and really, really thick-muscled guys. Strong guys. Very virile guys who had to handle very long and thick shafts. I'm not quite sure if you know what I mean. Maybe I should spell it out for you?

"My god, you're beautiful," Patrick groaned.

Aaaand here comes the nodding co@k head...

 photo tumblr_m5y0ydQ9b21qbaj4uo1_500_zps1b3f4a58.gif

Patrick's mouth went bone-dry and he licked his lips, trying to revive their moisture. Brandon's co@k nodded in response, sending a bolt of arousal straight down his spine and into his balls.
Duh, who would have guessed? I'm sure that the bolt of arousal wouldn't go straight to your feet. I apologize for being sarcastic but I couldn't help the little potshot.

"Sweet fu@king Jesus, Patrick." (…)
"I thought…I mean, I'd guessed that you'd be…I'd seen enough in the locker room, but I never…" Fu@kin' A.

"Some women can't…um…enjoy…I can hurt them. I bump against the end of their vagina, against their cervix, and that can hurt. (…)

I'm impressed. You have one seriously big co@k, Patrick. Well, I can be a little bit slow on the uptake now and then but after reading it again and again, I'm sure that I've got it down pat.

What I found beyond believable was the fact that Brandon took a very severe Well, anything for a "good" fu@k.

 photo tumblr_m684o9h7j31rwcc6bo1_500_zpsd86dcc6e.gif

Fu@k. There weren't words currently in the English language that could describe what Brandon could do with his mouth. His tongue.

Uh-huh…hold your horses, Patrick.

Round, soft hips that tucked into a small waist beneath a long, strong back and full, pouting breasts.

*confused* I checked my boobs but they do not pout. I'm sorry if that was too much information but I found it quite ridiculous.

Brandon's moan echoed through him to clutch at his balls.

Ouch.

I have read and absolutely devoured Hurt and Destiny Calls can't hold a candle to Varian Krylov's Hurt. As a matter of fact, these two books are worlds apart. The writing of Destiny Calls is rather brash and cheesy at times and never grabbed me. Besides, I did not feel the chemistry between the three MCs and last but not least I could never warm up to Patrick, Brandon and Des. I'm sorry for being so straightforward but it was just blah and the more I read the less I was convinced that I would finish the book. As it was, my interest just petered out.

In the end I suppose my destiny was to DNF Destiny Calls.

If you want to read a fabulous love triangle then I recommend you to check out

Whoa! That was honestly one of the hottest, most romantic books I have EVER read. Just wow! A full review to come, after I have had time to process my thoughts!

Full review from Smitten with Reading blog...
My Review:
Honestly, this is one of the hottest, most romantic books that I have ever read. It's no secret that the friends-to-lovers trope is absolutely my favorite and this book is the ultimate friends-to-lovers trope. Destiny, Brandon, and Patrick have all three been friends since they were 15 years old. None of them had a great home life so they became each other's family for the last almost 20 years. Brandon & Patrick are police detectives. Brandon is bisexual and has been in love with Patrick for years, but Patrick is definitely heterosexual. Destiny and Brandon have been on again/off again friends with benefits several times over the last few years. When the book begins, no one is currently sleeping with anyone else between the three of them, although the desires are there. Right now they are all three simply friends...best friends.

The book starts with Brandon & Patrick at a gay bar. They are there because one of their friends is playing in the band and someone hits on Brandon who refuses to take "no" for an answer. Patrick & Brandon end up kissing simply as a method to dissuade Brandon's suitor, but the kiss quickly spirals out of control for BOTH Brandon AND Patrick, much to his shock and surprise. Patrick is appalled and turned-on. He goes home in an absolute panic where Destiny is taking care of his dog. She quickly realizes that Patrick is so upset, not necessarily about what happened, but about how turned on he is by it.

Destiny quickly starts to play with the idea of the three of them together- as a triad. She just has to get the guys to talking to each other again and to get them on-board with the plan. This is a first for all three of them, so this book is bursting with sexual tension. OMG, I have NEVER read such hot sex scenes as ther are throughout this entire book. And this is a full-length novel, so there are a LOT of sex scenes, but every single one of them is completely unique and incredibly hot.

BUT this is not just a book about sex. There is also a fantastic suspense story line. Someone is targeting and attacking the three of them and the danger draws the three of them even closer together when circumstances might normally have driven them apart because of awkwardness. Along with that suspense is incredible romance. The basic nature of the situation- all new sexual experiences for all of them- means that emotions are very high, but add to that the danger that the three of them are faced with, OMG! So incredibly romantic. So incredibly intense. I started this book and could not put it down. The book was amazing!

Patrick is the typical alpha, take-charge kind of guy. When his guy and girl are in danger, watch out...he goes into fierce protector mode. Both Brandon and him are part of the Boston PD and worry that if their relationship comes out, that it could threaten their jobs, but as they are targeted, that becomes harder and harder to "keep in the closet." This is a whole other source of tension.

Brandon is used to hiding his feelings and emotions. He's been doing it for years. He's a natural peace-maker and a truly calm influence on those around him. He's doing everything he can to protect both Brandon & Destiny from the backlash of their relationship. Both of these guys are amazing and watching their relationship develop is absolutely beautiful. It was absolutely the most gorgeous, heart-warming story line.

Then there is Destiny. Self-assured and totally in love with both of these guys... as friends. She never plans to fall in love. She is deeply scarred from a horrific divorce that her parents put her through. The guys went through it with her as her friend so they completely understand that about her, but that doesn't stop them from wanting more.

Amazing, amazing book!! So well-written. So well-developed. High emotion. High sexual intensity. This book had absolutely everything including three amazing characters that I fell in love with too. Definitely one of the best books I have read this year!

I never got a chance to review this. It was one of my 1st M/M/F Triad books and it was amazing I have since read this book 3 times. I loved how the story flowed and came together. I love Patrick and the emotions he went through to get to where they ended up. The story was great dealing with being Boston Cops and being caught up in the mafia issues on their current case and the effects it has with all 3 of the characters. Just loved it. .

Well, the time has come for my full review of this favourite. At first I should say that it's one of the best books in menage. Not only we have beautiful characters here, but also we have good amount of adventure and angst in it.

One of the merits of this book is its believable characters and situations. You won't see any over the top melodrama in this book. For sure, it has some moments when the characters feel doubt or fear of the future, but they're logical and sympathetic.

For me, Brandon is the best of them. He's cool and always tries to make everything better. He has
more problems than the others but he always gives his kindness and strength to his friends. Solely for him I should give this book 5 stars. Another important thing about him is that he's not acting in a superhuman way. You can see his sorrows and sufferings. You can also see some moments when he becomes weak. But in every situation, his kind heart wins over the obstacles.

Another beautiful thing about this book is its focus on the art of kissing. It's really rare in the books of the genre that I've read so far. There are some scenes in the book that the characters only kiss each other and the author portrays them in an artistic manner. You can easily create the situations in your mind and enjoy it just like the characters. Oh Brandon is a wonderful kisser ;)

If you like erotica and menage, don't hesitate to pick this book. It will warm your heart and... ;)

Looking for that story that grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go? Look no further than Destiny Calls!

Some of the hottest M/M scenes come when one or both of the men don’t intend to go “that far” or when it’s so spontaneous the intensity of the moment stills your breath. Destiny Calls is that type of book. Patrick and Brandon are best friends and have been since they were kids watching each other’s backs, so there is a bond between them that has never been blurred by intimacy.

When circumstances create a reason, a need, to cross that line it becomes painfully obvious that they can never go back to just being friends. The journey to that elusive HEA that these men take, along with the third member of this triad, Destiny, isn’t easy or without doubt and heartache. My heart raced, my eyes watered and I breathed a huge sigh of relief when the bad guys were defeated.

There isn’t a whole lot of spoken dialogue in this novel but it works for this story. Ms. Wayland gives us a lot of internal dialogue that shows the conflict Patrick, Brandon and Destiny each deal with. It’s different for each character. Patrick never knew he was “in the closet” much less how to deal with the consequences when his department begins to suspect his involvement with Brandon AND Destiny. Brandon has always known he was gay and had secret feelings for Patrick but would never have acted on those feelings. Destiny has been in love with and dated Patrick off and on for many years. She wants more but does NOT do commitment!!

As I said, emotions and tension runs deep in this book. So does the incredibly HOT sheet action but the author says it best... it’s “Not just sex. Tenderness”. I appreciated how Ms. Wayland painted Patrick as the dominant in the bedroom but she doesn’t let him get away with always being on top. With love and tenderness, Brandon teaches Patrick it’s okay to let someone else be in control…sometimes.

The plot is multilayered and at one point I felt like that Ms. Wayland had thrown in a side story regarding the local mob that was unnecessary to the overall story. I couldn’t have been more wrong. While the mob isn’t the main plot it served a greater purpose of making Patrick more aware of himself and his feelings for Brandon. Ms. Wayland delivers an incredibly heart wrenching story that is so realistic at its core it’s hard to open a paper or turn on the news and not see a story that relates.

There is so much I would like to say about this book but it would give away too much of this story and it really needs to be read to be appreciated. If you love intensity in and out of the bedroom and thick throughout the book, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Destiny Calls. This was the first book by Ms. Wayland that I’ve read but it certainly won’t be the last.

I'm not usually a big fan of menage books. You either don't have a Happy Ending or it's a strange dynamic of men who grow up sharing women for some strange reason. Or it's a paranormal thing with packs and mates and 2 or 3 men who are destined to be with one woman. I've always felt like it's just an excuse to write threesomes. With that being said, I think Destiny Calls is one of the best menage books I've read. I like how all the relationships develop separately and the menage happens because each of the characters truly loves 2 people. For me, it worked and had a great Happily Ever After. Just a warning though, this book contains m/m romance and sex scenes so if you have a problem with reading that you won't like the book. If you don't mind m/m this is a great read.

**Book donated by the author for review**

Recently I was asked by a friend on Goodreads.com if I would be willing to review a book that had been written by one of her writing partners, as she knew I read menage quite often and I agreed. Its been a long time since I had read a menage story that I have enjoyed as I did this one.

Destiny, Brandon and Patrick have been friends for years, growing up in homes that nowadays would potentially be classified as emotionally abusive and have maintained that friendship throughout the years, but it is all about to change, when Patrick kisses Brandon one night while they are out at a bar.

It is hard for me to get down in this review what I enjoyed about this story. First of all, I liked the fact that it wasn't a menage that is based on a previously formed relationship. I mean, those are ok sometimes, but I often have a hard time with how those relationships are presented. In Destiny Calls, it seemed to be more believable somehow, because there wasn't that permanency. I liked the dynamics between Brandon and Patrick and their co-workers (all cops) and how so much of what happened was guided by their fears of perception.

The only thing that kind of felt unfinished was the suspense story line. It didn't feel like it was as developed as it could have been and while everything was resolved, something just seemed to be missing. I would also like to know more about Patrick/Brandon's co-workers (I could see a few more books based on them).

Overall, an enjoyable read and a solid 4 stars. I'll definitely be looking for more written by Samantha Wayland in the future.

An emotional, erotic triad love story that presents the issue of friends becoming lovers – always a hit in my book! The 3 main characters deal with attraction to each other, bigotry, societal norms and the courage to live and love freely. All of this is wrapped around a suspense plotline dealing with the mafia and those who deem it their right to judge and pass sentence on others. I enjoyed the dynamics of Patrick learning to accept his love for Brandon that went deeper than best friend status. His turmoil is depicted realistically and honestly. It takes longer in the book to uncover the demons in Destiny’s closet that explains her emotional distance but it is no less satisfying. I loved Brandon and his openness to his sexuality, love for his friends and the depth of that love that showcases his capacity for sacrifice. The plot moves well, the writing is engaging and the character development is spot on. This book is super hot and well worth a read!

Great triad read. Real problems and emotions to deal with. Some danger lots of Passion and too much use of the word Beautiful. All three called each other BEAUTIFUL a lot. Seriously use a thesaurus. Guys calling another guy beautiful, I suppose it could happen.

Most of the book is great. Romantic, not just sexy (though it *is* plenty sexy). The emotions between Patrick and Brandon are heartwrenching and beautiful and totally worth reading, the relationship totally worth the struggle. Their characters are real and believable and well written...

But....

I dunno -- throughout the entire book, I felt like Destiny was in the way. Every time a steamy moment between Patrick and Brandon was interrupted by an appendage of Destiny's, I was annoyed. And with a triad like this, you shouldn't feel like one of the participants is extraneous. I certainly have nothing against polyamorous relationships, so this isn't an issue of sexual preference -- I just didn't like Destiny much.

If the story belonged solely to Patrick and Brandon, I have no doubt that I would've finished the book, but when the drama turned to Destiny's inability to push past childhood issues (don't think I'm denigrating them -- I understand they're quite serious), I was immediately disinterested. I didn't care whether Brandon and Patrick got her to "see the light" and return to their triad. I preferred that Brandon and Patrick remain M/M instead of M/M/F, cuz man their M/M is hawt!!

This book was so great! One of my all times favorites!

I loved the three MC Brandon, Patrick and Destiny.
I loved sexual tension, growing and exploding.
I loved the alternating POV to get to know what each character is thinking.
I loved the desciptions of everything.
I have so many favorite scenes, omg at the bar in the beginning.
It was hot hot HOT and at the same time so romantic, between both Brandon and Patrick, Brandon and Destiny, Destiny and Patrick, and all tree of them together.
There is actually suspense happing in this too.

Highly recommended!

Oh, and you should definitely read With Grace which is linked to this book. We get to meet Brandon and Patrick on the job so to speak. The case they are working on is mention in Destiny Calls. Nice one! But they are both stand alone books.

I like the characters, althought the only one that really seems to be almost fully developed was Patrick. Brandon seems a diluted version of Patrick and Destiny is only there to give the guys the "justification" for their self-discovery without having to fall completely in the gay-themed genre.

The caracters of Destiny and Brandon get a little more developed reaching the end of the novel. If all of that would have been done earlier in the book, it would have made them more complete characters to appreciate throughout.

I would like it more if the sexual aspects would gradually reach a crescendo, and the tension risen within the flirtatious mind. A more refined way to build it up, instead of just being presented other than everything to be a thin-attempt to a plot to just set up yet another sexual encounter.

It's literary porn. But taken as just that, it is fairly entertaining.

The premise was good, the execution was lacking.

Too much inner dialogue and not enough actual character to character dialogue. The connection between the three MC's suffered because of it. The sex was clinical because of it.

I love a good menage, but in this book there just seemed to be a third wheel - either Destiny or Brandon should not have been in the book. It would have worked better as either a M/M or M/F.

Overall, the writing was neat,(there were a number of typos though) the actual storyline relatively interesting, once they got past the massive amounts of kissing (only) there was plenty of sex but, OMG, I can't believe I'm saying this, I skimmed through it because it just didn't work for me.

Not a bad book not great either, so 3 stars from me.

This is a great m/m/f story about three friends who come to realize they were meant to be together forever. You can feel the love drip off the pages. The road is not an easy one for them. They have to fight their feelings for each other and fight those who are out to cause them harm, but they overcome. I absolutely loved this story.

This is the best triad book I have read so far. Where's my Brandon and Patrick? This is not just a sexy book, it is sweet and romantic as well. Samantha Wayland is fantastic at creating characters you wish you knew in real life. I hope she continues their story!

Destiny, Patrick and Brandon have been friends since they were kids. Patrick and Destiny have had an on-off relationship for years, but Destiny always backs away from becoming more serious. This book is how their relationship is tested by both each other and outside influence.

Brandon is hiding the fact that he is bisexual from his work as he thinks he won't be accepted and may lose the job he loves and is very good at.

Being forced to confess his sexuality to his work colleagues this story highlights perception from the point of view of Brandon and how he thought his colleagues would react.

Good drama twisted into the story about a triad relationship (which I'd never heard of).

Normally I would have finished this in 2 days max.... I can't believe how long it took me. But that is life with a newborn.

This one wasn't horrible, but there were something that I thought could have been better.

Didn't like the villain. But we aren't supposed to like it.

I think the title could have been called something entirely different. Destiny Calls didn't really feel like it fit.

All in all I did like it. But I'm too brain dead to give it a proper review. But I did like it.

Significantly better than the first book in the series (With Grace). While the mix between romance and erotica is still awkward, and the transitions between them uneven, the characters are more fleshed out and less generic, with relevant background and history and (endearing) personality traits (besides amazing abs).
