Underground

Rate this book
Nothing was more gruesome than the goings on in the underground hospital. A hospital that was built by prisoners of war was able to withstand centuries of men being tortured. The only time when the torture came to an end was when a young woman’s capturer fell in love with her. The man called up ghosts from the centuries, changing them into zombies. It was these zombies that decided the fate of the hospital.

Although this is only a short book, given the synopsis I was expecting a story with a lot more oomph. Instead I found the story a little flat as there wasn't even a hint of depth to any of the characters and the story felt very rushed. Given the complexity of the story and the various interlinking features, this could well have done with a few more pages. Despite that it was an okay read and it hasn't put me off any of Howells' other works as it does hint at something that is potentially great but in this case it just didn't come off quite right. Still a very interesting concept though.

I read it in about an hour. The writing is a bit choppy, but the story was okay until she pulled ZOMBIES out of left field and I started laughing so hard that I had to put it down. It kept my interest because I am kind of fascinated with dystopian societies and medieval-esque prisons. I was free and it kept me occupied for an hour, that's all I wanted out of it, so no complaints :) except for the zombies HAHAHA!!
