The prowler on the construction site of her new camp didn't frighten Rachel Patterson…at first. Fear comes when her home is torched—and worsens when a body is unearthed on the campgrounds. Someone's trying to cover up a murder, and if Rachel can identify the intruder, she might be the only witness. Her neighbor, Wildlife Conservation Officer Jake Campbell, is determined to keep the lovely widow safe. But when a misunderstanding separates the pair, their distance risks more than the growing feelings between them. It leaves Rachel alone and unguarded, which could be just the chance the killer needs…
Why do women in mysteries try to be all strong, brave, and independent and then make stupid decisions because they're not listening to the voice of reason? It happens over and over and I keep getting sucked into their problems--haha. This was a predictable book and I wasn't particularly impressed with the author's style, but it was quick and easy to read.
I thought the Rachel-Jake relationship was well developed, leading naturally from friendship to romance. However, the fact that they were trying to solve a mystery when neither of them was in law enforcement was disturbing. They put themselves in a lot of unnecessary danger.
I read to my wife every evening. Even though one knows the outcome of the Jake-Rachel relationship from the very beginning it is good clean romance as are all the love inspired books. The mystery is intriguing and the enemy isn't revealed until the very end.
This is the second book in a three book series about three friends living in Charity, PA. In this book, Rachel Patterson, widowed after a bad accident took her husband, is trying to run their ranch camp by herself. But someone doesn't want her making a miniature golf course! Wildlife Conservation Officer, Jake Campbell is at her side helping her when someone tries to hurt her several times. But neither of them is ready to love again...
The suspense was good. I really liked the tension between these two, and the romance was sweet.

This is the third in a series of romantic intrigue stories about three friends. This one involves Rachel Patterson, a young widow who owns a family campground near Charity, PA and Jake, a Wildlife Conservation Officer who was burned by his former girlfriend. Both are reluctant to be in another relationship at this point in their lives but circumstances throw them together anyway. Rachel decides to build a miniature golf course for the kids to enjoy during the summer and during the course of clearing the land, a skeleton is found buried on the property. Someone close to Rachel is not happy about it and will go to any length to hurt here when the opportunity arises.
I thought the Rachel-Jake relationship was well developed, leading naturally from friendship to romance. However, the fact that they were trying to solve a murder mystery when neither of them was in law enforcement was a bit troubling. Not only did the police tell them to stop poking around, but they wound up putting themselves in unnecessary danger because they didn't listen.
