Outstanding book that explicitly shows you how to make a lesson plan - for any content - that leads to student understanding. I actually read it last year - all in one day, on a plane, and started using it right away. The lesson format he teaches sets students up for success so intentionally, and has worked for me every time.

For someone trained in discovery learning, it almost feels like cheating to tell students so clearly what they need to do and how to do it and then watching them be completely successful. But the students don’t feel like these lessons are boring - they feel like they totally understand the content and can answer questions and complete tasks with their new understanding. It’s a complete game changer.

This is hands-down my favorite book on lesson planning ever! It’s so readable and usable and I think every teacher training program should include it. I am so grateful for this resource.

This was an excellent book on instruction with a good framework that any teacher could follow. A lot of it I already do but it really helped to organize thinking and plans in a cohesive manner. The order he has you plan a lesson it just makes sense. I wrote my first lesson that way and realized I caught some details I might not have otherwise. Looking forward to teaching the lesson tomorrow.
