Jimmy Bell is living the simple life of a fisherman on the Florida coast, spending all his spare time painting. Little does he realize that his life is about to be turned upside down--by the chance encounter he had with an escaped convict years ago, and by his relationship with Estella, a beautiful society debutante he has longed for throughout his childhood. A major motion picture from 20th Century Fox starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Ethan Hawke, Robert DeNiro and Anne Bancroft.
I’ve seen the movie almost 20 years ago, and was quite fascinated by it. And I have to say that I’m equally delighted by the accompanying book. Which is rare, because mostly “Film Tie-In”-Books are just average and you’re better off watching the movie. But it was a real pleasure to read this gem. Maybe because I haven’t watched the movie in a very long time, and imagined the individual scenes while reading, so it really was like watching the movie again. It is such a beautiful, although also quite sad, love-story between Jimmy (I like the name ‘Finn’ in the movie better!) and Estella.
I still don’t know how similar the movie + book is to Dicken’s Original. Still haven’t read this one, but I honestly intend to do so. Sometime!
I love this story, and when I was younger I loved this version! Finally read it and it's exactly the same as this versions film! Now I have to re-watch it :]
