If you are new to taking care of snakes, I suggest beginning with a ball python as your first pet snake. When compared to other constricting snakes that are kept as pets, they are very little (only reaching a length of up to five feet at their longest), placid, and easy to handle. Because of the way it defends itself by rolling into a tight ball and concealing its head beneath its coils when it senses danger, the ball python got its name from this behavior. A baby ball python will have grown to a length of around three feet after three years. Their longevity might be extended by many decades beyond the average 20–30 years if they are properly cared for.
