Sheriff Jace Kelly’s wife died giving birth to his remarkable daughter, Emma. She inherited the families’ seer abilities, but being only six-years old, she has the tendency not to know the difference between a vision and just an ordinary dream. So Jace doesn’t put too much faith in Emma’s recent marriage for him and a new mother for her, all because she wished upon a Christmas star. When JoBeth Riley arrives in town, Emma is convinced this is the woman she dreamed dark hair, green eyes and shamrocks in her pocket. Only there’s one problem, she’s the notorious outlaw, Baby Face Jo. JoBeth’s stay in the lumber town is meant to keep Shane Maverick, the leader of the outlaw gang from finding her and breaking her out of jail before the authorities have time to devise a plan to capture him. JoBeth finds the Kellys a strange lot. A little girl, who believes her dreams are tales of the future and the rugged sheriff whose kindness proves a distraction. She’s an outlaw for heaven’s sake, but Jace is bound and determined to steal her heart.
Karen Michelle Nutt lives in sunny California with her husband. Though her three children are grown and off starting their own adventures, the family’s new fur babies—Ichabod, a beautiful black cat, and Princess Buttercup, a rambunctious Pomchipoo—keep her plenty entertained. Both pets are characters in their own right and often serve as muses for her creativity.
When she’s not glued to her computer, Karen can often be found curled up with a cup of coffee, lost in the magic of an old movie, or enjoying a delightful afternoon tea outing. A devoted fan of live music, she loves soaking in the energy of a great concert. And when the mood strikes, she might be off on a ghost hunt, exploring the mysteries of the unseen world.
Whether your reading fancy is paranormal, historical, or time travel, Karen Michelle Nutt’s stories capture the rich array of emotions that accompany one of life’s most magical experiences—falling in love.
A happily ever after western novel of childhood dreams predicting the future. First Karen Nutt read but hope to pick one of her works up again soon. Small town loyalty and their love of a kind hearted sheriff. Sheriff Jace shows kindness and trust in a female outlaw left in his charge. Great read on this snow covered Saturday! Sometimes, when I hear that a setting is in the past, I'm not the first to jump on it. However, with something as thrilling as this relatively short book is, I would make sure I was clutching it until it was mine. My mom bought this book for herself, but, being the more avid reader that I am, I got to it first and could not put it down. It didn't take me more than a few hours, but a great few hours they were. This might very well be one that I read again and again. It was suspenseful and intriguing. The twists and turns of the characters were great and the end left me wanting more.
This is a new author to me! I enjoyed this story, and learning how the sheriff would eventually get his bride! The twists were interesting and unpredictable! The narration was good. The timing and the female voices need a bit more work. Mrs. Gunthry sounded 100 yrs old. Yet she cooked, cleaned, and took care of a 6 yr old. There were times, I thought, maybe this isn't a sweet book, but it definitely was. Nothing more than kissing happened sexually, and anything more intense was left to your imagination. I'm interested in reading or listening to more from both the author and narrator.
Karen Nutt is one of those authors who can really write great chemistry between two main characters--and this book did not disappoint. JoBeth and Jace were excellent point and counterpoint to each other. JoBeth--who started out as a criminal hauled into jail, became a sympathetic character. Holy cow, did Nutt do a great job of redeeming her! And Jace's initial hesitation to believe what his daughter told him about the future--and the new prisoner in her father's jail, was the perfect vehicle to drive this story.
There's plenty of wild west action. A truly bad villain. A cast of supporting characters that I felt like I knew by the end of the book. And there's the evolving romance between a gun-shy doubter and a heartbroken widower.
Nutt's writing is good. It's well edited. And the story leaves the reader smiling.
I first came across this book in Snippet Sunday, a weekly post where authors put up snippets of their works in progress or recently published books. I loved the snippets and couldn't wait to get my allowance to buy this book. I wasn't disappointed. Ms. Nutt's voice is strong and entertaining. I truly enjoyed JoBeth and Jace was an amiable yet solid counterpart to her fire. This was a sweet and sensual historical romance with plenty of action and suspense. I highly recommend it, especially to those who like strong heroines and little to no sex. Even if you prefer your romance with sex scenes, this one is worth the read. The story and character development make explicit content unnecessary.
