Thrilling facts and frightening illustrations bring to life the remarkable prehistoric world of the dinosaurs, capturing the way they lived millions of years ago.
This is an informational picture book about dinosaurs. The book talks about several different types of dinosaurs and how they have been studied. The author gives a lot of information about many types of dinosaurs and talks about what a paleontologist does.
I like this book because it is full of a lot of information. The author gives the reader many interesting facts, but does not overload the information.
This book would be great to use in a 3rd or 4th grade classroom. It would be perfect for a unit on dinosaurs, seeing as it presents so much information on so many different types of dinosaurs.
Dinosaurs! is a really comprehensive overview of dinosaurs as a species. It discusses several different kinds of dinosaur, their eating and hunting habits and physical composition, and their egg-laying reproduction.
I loved this book so much. I am a big dinosaur fan, and discovering that the world's smallest dinosaur was the size of a chicken made my day (and now I want one). It was interesting, but easy to understand for a younger audience.
I think books like this are a wonderful introduction to a topic for young children who need to discover and interest. Overview non-fiction books are great for giving kids a little taste of lots of different things.
Dinosaurs! Strange and Wonderful, written by Laurence Pringle and illustrated by Carol Heyer, is about many different dinosaurs and how we know what we know about them. The book starts off by telling the reader that there were no people when dinosaurs lived, but we can find out lots of information about them by studying their fossils and seeing how the Earth was back when the dinosaurs lived. Throughout the book, different dinosaurs are introduced and their characteristics are also told to the reader. The book explains why the dinosaur is named for what it is. The age range for this book is for children in first through third grade. The choice of words and the descriptions that are used are somewhat complex. Most children in Kindergarten and below would probably have a difficult time in understanding the different concepts that are introduced. The illustrations that are used in this book are very realistic, the lines are thin and acurate, and the medium that was used is most likely colored pencils. The pictures are so life-like that one could almost think that they were photographs if it was not pointed out on the front cover that there was an illustrator. This book would be a great recommendation for teachers and parents who are teaching their children about dinosaurs and how their life was like. The subject that is talked about, dinosaurs, is a great topic because so many children are interested in them. The facts that are presented are very acurate, and the pictures help aid the children to be able to visualize what the dinosaur looked like and what the Earth looked like when dinosaurs lived.
This would be a welcome addition to our dinosaur books. I appreciate all the help with getting the dinosaurs names right. I liked how we get insights into what the names mean & how knowledge about dinosaurs changes over time. Will looK for more books by this author.
