Life across the centuries in the area excavated by the Madaba Plains Project.
This readable and beautifully illustrated book on the life, culture, and history of the Madaba Plains explores the relationship between the human populations and physical environments of this region. The ancient Ammonites played a major role in the unfolding drama of life and survival in the fields, pasture lands, deserts, and mountains of the Transjordan. Modern counterparts maintain a similar struggle that in some ways resembles and in other ways differs from their ancient ancestors.
This book depicts the history of ecology, geography, and how it has influenced the culture and economy of the inhabitants Ammon and the surrounding areas. Along with illustrations there are also references to religious traditions that were developed from such an environment, quotes from religious texts that were inspired from such sensitive life situations. These allow the reader to better capture the majesty of the region.
The book does not fail to illuminate the past and present of the region by relating the contributions from archaeological excavations performed by the Madaba Plains Project.
