This is a fictional storie about Lara Englewood, she is on the run from the Law, Her lovers, and herself. Exiled in New Zealand, the Parision actress is keeping a diary of infamous secrets. On Waiheke Island she befriends an impoverished writer, working on a riches to rags story about Oscar Wilde.
Meet me at the cemetery gates! A playful and engaging book, all the better for not taking itself or its characters too seriously. It is cleverly written and a basic knowledge of Wilde will improve you reading pleasure. The various strands and timelines come together in the end and I forgave it for not really being about Waiheke, which was the reason I picked it up in the first place. All in all, a solid first novel and I was disappointed to find that the author has not written any further fiction.
