I always thought I had been born a hundred years too late, but I do appreciate air conditioning, computers and other conveniences of modern day living. I love the slower pace of New Bern, North Carolina as well as the history and small town community. Imagine a neighborhood where people wave at one another and keep eye out for the children. It's like living in the 1950s. In addition to dreaming up my next story, of which there are always two or three in the works, I enjoy reading everything from children’s books to romance to mysteries to vampire adventure, singing in my church choir and needle-weaving.

HIS BECK AND CALL GIRL, the sixth book in the Club Esoteria series, continues along the similar line of previous books in the series, pairing a kind and gentle Dom with a new and curious submissive.

There is nothing worse than not knowing where you stand in a relationship...not knowing if you are treasured or expendable and it is that uncertainty Sinclair feels regarding her relationship with Jackson and it is eating at her heart. Sick of the see-saw of emotions this man evokes, Sinclair struts in to the firehouse Jackson works, exuding confidence she did not feel and boldly announces that she has had enough of his wishy-washy behavior. She declares the time has come for Jackson to put the hurt he has experienced in the past behind him, time to open up and trust her or move on without her in his life. Either way, she makes it clear their relationship has come to the proverbial fork in the road.

Throwing out ultimatums is dicey—one never knows which way things will go. In Sinclair's case, it turns out to be an excellent decision on her part! She thought their sexual encounters were stellar in the beginning of their relationship, well, let me tell you when Master Jackson enters the picture, their lovemaking excels to galactic proportions bringing heat she didn't even know existed. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. They were easy to relate to and I loved watching their relationship accelerate once they addressed the big elephant in the room.

For the lighter side of BDSM, I love this series, it combines just the right amount of kink and sweetness to appeal to a variety of audiences. It is an excellent series for readers new to the BDSM sub-culture. If you are considering dipping into the BDSM scene, Club Esoteria is a great series to start with. I promise it will leave you begging for more and will whet your appetite for an erotic read that's a step above vanilla as it incorporates elements of light bondage, spanking and D/s.

An interesting "take" on a relationship with BDSM floating around the periphery. Sinclair appears to be a woman who is not really an in-you-face kind of person and she has had the misfortune of falling in love with a fire fighter who has some emotional places inside of him that are still hurting, so much so that he is wanting her but not willing to move the relationship forward. Her great moment of self-expression with him is to dress up, put on her battle make-up, and face him down at the fire station--a plan that worked so well that he didn't even manage to get his chin off the ground long enough to respond. That he still wants her in his life becomes apparent, but even then, even after an intense evening at Club Esoteria, he back peddles again. Guys like this, even fictional ones, really make me upset. I understand being hurt and being wary of genuine emotion, but to jerk this woman around, even after she makes herself plain, is truly a reprehensible way to behave. One further lack he seemed to display was that he never really caught on--until tragedy strikes--that his response to her was convincing her that he "couldn't" love her. I thought the response of some of his fellow firefighters was far more positive. It is an emotional book--not long--as all the stories in this series are novellas. (That doesn't go over very big with me either.) But there is a lot to think about in this story and as always, McKenzie does a magnificent writing job. She is really good at what she does.

Argh! What a frustrating story! This series has been enjoyable enough to keep my interest and keep me reading, and I really liked the first 90% of this installment. I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen to Sinclair and Jackson and find out what was the big secret he carried around that prevented him from communicating with her. I could hardly believe it when I got to "The End" and that important character development piece was just omitted from the story. That last 10% had so much potential, too. Disappointing ending. Might keep me from finishing this series.

As I know very little of the D\S world, I can't make an accurate critique on how that is portrayed here.

However, I couldn't help but read this book as comedy (thus killing off any attempt at eroticism) the moment a Domme shows up wearing a gold velvet corset, a denim miniskirt and thigh high, black leather stilletto boots.

That moment, the book took a 180º turn, and became pure camp -- making me giggle maniacly from start to end.

Have really been enjoying this series until this book. As another reviewer said, not really sure why Sinclair didn't just kick Jackson to the curb right from the beginning. And not that any of the books in this series are deep, but this one didn't even delve into why these two are attracted to or care about each other.

I've opened the next book however and it already looks TONS better! lol

I've read the books previous to this in the series and this book was not as good as the rest. The writing wasn't really good and the story felt rushed. Not to mention, Sinclair should have kicked Jackson to the curb at the beginning of the book. The story was a little unbelievable.

Too short on plot and character development. I like this series, but this title seemed like the author ran out of time or interest and just wanted to get it done. Sadly, I wish I had been able to borrow it since dishing out money for it left me annoyed as well as disenchanted.

I think so far this is my favorite story I've read by Cooper McKenzie. It was a wonderful story and quick read. The thing about her books is they are all great hot stories but have life in them so they feel so real to me. So glad I got and read this book. I always enjoy the stories I read of hers

Thought this was way too short and would have been alot better if it was longer and went into more detail!
